Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 255: A Ranker Worth Fighting (4)
Chapter 255: A Ranker Worth Fighting (4)
When they saw Seraphina, Vex and Charles were surprised. They were expecting Adrian to have a plan in place, but what surprised them was their inability to detect Seraphina until she revealed herself to them.
While Charles expected Vex to fall for such tricks, he was in disbelief that despite being an S-ranker, he couldn’t even feel the aura of another S-rank hunter.
That thought worried him. It almost felt like Adrian’s companions were somehow superior to anyone on Earth, which was an absurd thought.
"How did you get here?" Vex demanded, eyes narrowing at Seraphina.
Truth be told, it was plain luck. Seraphina was taking a walk when Vex decided to cut the power supply.
Since she was expecting someone might try to pull some shit, she headed towards the entrance and found Vex and Charles there. But she wasn’t going to tell them about it.
However, Charles answered the question for her.
"It doesn’t matter now," he said, trying to mask his unease. "Deal with his nuisance. I have to get to the upper floors."
As Charles turned to leave, Seraphina almost teleported between him and Vex, holding a dagger in her hand. She was about to strike at Charles when Vex launched a powerful kick at her. Seraphina, quick on her feet, leapt back, dodging the attack.
Unfortunately, the short distraction gave Charles the chance to slip away, and he headed for the upper floors.
"You’re not going anywhere!" Seraphina yelled as she stepped up to stop Charles.
However, Vex stepped in between them. Her towering figure acting like a wall standing between Charles and Seraphina.
"You think you can stop both of us?" Vex smirked, curling her fingers in a punch. "I’d love to see you try."
Having used her teleportation skill, there was nothing she could do but stare at Charles until the moment he disappeared. Only then did she turn towards Vex.
"Who says I need to stop him?" Seraphina smiled, twirling a dagger between her fingers. "Capturing one of you alive is enough."
"Capture us?" Vex scoffed. "Keep dreaming, sweetheart."
Vex lunged at Seraphina, her fists swinging with the force of a cannon. Seraphina danced out of the way. Her movements were like water. Eventually, she then lashed out with her dagger, aiming for Vex’s side, but Vex deflected the blow with a forearm block.
"Is that all an S-ranker can do?" Vex taunted, unleashing a series of rapid attacks at Seraphina.
Seraphina dodged and weaved, countering with swift strikes of her own. She kept using her agility and flexibility to stay just out of Vex’s reach, striking with her dagger whenever an opening presented itself.
Vex growled in frustration as she kept missing attack after attack. Her frustration boiled over, and she launched a spinning kick, aiming for Seraphina’s head.
Seraphina ducked under the kick, rolling forward and slashing at Vex’s other leg with her dagger. Vex hissed in pain but retaliated with a backhand swipe that caught Seraphina off guard, sending her staggering back.
"Damned bitch," Vex hissed angrily as blood trickled down her open wound. "Stop fighting like a rat!"
"A fight is a fight," Seraphina taunted after regaining her footing. Her eyes never left Vex. "Everything is fair."
"We’ll see about that."
Vex charged again, her movements powerful and relentless. Seraphina met her head-on, using her dagger to parry and deflect the heavy blows.
Although Vex was an A-rank hunter and Seraphina was an S-rank, their classes played a significant role in their fight. It wasn’t a good match-up for an assassin-healer like Seraphina to go against a brawler like Vex.
Seraphina’s agility and precision allowed her to keep up with Vex’s raw strength, but one wrong move could destroy all of it.
’As if that wasn’t enough, I need to wrap this up before Amelia comes across that old man,’ Seraphina thought.
Although their exchange was brief, Seraphina sensed the man was dangerous even to someone like her. That’s why she tried to neutralise him twice, but he got lucky both times when Vex intervened.
However, if Amelia and the old man came across one another, things would not end well for the half-elf. With that thought in her mind, Seraphina lunged to end the fight.
She aimed for the weak points in Vex’s defence: her upper body. Seraphina feinted to the left, causing Vex to expose her right side to her.
With her chance, Seraphina performed a quick slash to the arm and a jab to the ribs, each strike chipping away at Vex’s endurance. But Vex was relentless, and Seraphina underestimated her Amazonian strength.
Even in pain, Vex caught Seraphina with a crushing elbow to the side, making her gasp in pain. Seraphina retaliated with a swift kick to Vex’s knee, momentarily disrupting her balance.
Vex thought she had secured a moment or two following her attack on Seraphina, but she was wrong. Seraphina fought through the pain and charged towards her.
Vex saw the attack coming and forced herself to fight back. However, it was at that moment that Seraphina saw an opening.
As Vex threw an overextended punch at her, Seraphina sidestepped, teleported behind and drove her dagger into Vex’s side, twisting the blade. Vex let out a scream of pain, falling sideways.
Vex tried to fight back, clutching her wounded side. But it caused the wound to tear up more, giving Seraphina the chance to stab Vex in so many places that she couldn’t get up even if she wanted to.
"This isn’t over," Vex snarled before collapsing to the wounds.
"No, it’s not," Seraphina agreed, binding Vex. "But for now, I’ve got other matters to attend to."
With that, Seraphina turned her gaze to the stairs, knowing that the real battle had only just begun. Charles was still out there, and she had to find him before someone else did.
However, she wasn’t aware that her worst thoughts had come true and Charles had already met someone. But she wouldn’t remain unaware of it for much longer.
