Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 310: Reunited (1)
Chapter 310: Reunited (1)
"You look everything of your mother. Thank goodness," Zephyr said, stepping from Selene to get a better look at her.
"Grandfather," Selene playfully tapped his hand. "I am always told that I look like my father. My father is a very handsome man."
"Nonsense. Your beauty and kind heart came from us. I heard what the Harrisons did, so you are nothing like them," said Zephyr.
Selene couldn’t disagree. "From what I have seen, neither is my father. Oh, are they coming here as well?"
"No, child. I have come to take you to them. Last night, I had the misfortune of being approached by an Everhart asking about you and your mother. To send them all back, I must return," Zephyr said, giving a moment for Selene to take this bit in.
"To have the Everharts remain where they hide, I will return with your parents. Your parents are dead to this town. Here, they cannot be seen by anyone to draw suspicion to our family secret. They will forever have to hide if they stay."
Selene frowned. This wasn’t the news she expected to hear when meeting her grandfather.
They were only just reuniting, so why did they need to speak of leaving already?
Still, Selene quickly smiled to not worry her grandfather.
It couldn’t be easy for her grandfather to prepare to leave already before they got to make up for lost time.
"I am happy that they are alive and well. Hiding here in town just so they can be near me isn’t something that I want. They should go where they can walk around and be happy together. I wish for them to have a normal life again," Selene said.
Her parents being alive had always been enough.
Since the Everharts lived far away from everyone then maybe her parents could have a home to themselves and walk around as they please.
Selene continued, "You have always said that I shouldn’t go there, but would I be able to see them once in a while?"
"You may. The Everharts have become restless while I was travelling around the kingdom and sticking close to your mother. I shall keep them in order, which means your parents shall go at a distance where you can meet them away from the Everharts," said Zephyr.
Selene felt much better hearing this. "Then I am not sad. I get to see you again, which is much better than I thought before. Mother must be sad."
"She is. She is disappointed she got to miss your weddings," said Zephyr. "They had gifts they wanted to give you, but they will no longer be in your old home." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
The state of her former home upset Selene even more. "It is likely that everything was sold, or some member of the Harrison family has it. I have the home, and Xavier has been kind enough to repair it for me. Since I will always be here, I am giving the home to Agnes. You remember her, don’t you?"
"The little maid who stood beside you. Of course, I remember her. I am sorry about what happened to Elsie. Where is your old husband?" Zephyr asked, his list not yet completed.
"He is gone unless you want him to be dug up. Gabriel and his new wife are no longer of any concern for Selene," said Xavier.
"Hmm."
Zephyr only now paid attention to Xavier’s presence.
"Do you care for this one, Selene?" Zephyr asked, lazily flicking his hand in Xavier’s direction.
"I do. I love him a lot, and once you get to know him well, you will love Xavier as well," Selene said, holding her hand out to Xavier for him to come closer.
"I don’t know about that," Zephyr said, having no plans to get so close to Xavier. "I don’t hate him. He seems to be a lot quieter than his grandfather. Stay away from Orlork as much as you can."
"But I like Orlork," Selene replied.
"They have poisoned your mind. That man talks far too much. When you come to see your parents, make sure that he is never around. Are you ready to leave? They are waiting for you now," said Zephyr.
"We can leave now. We would only need to inform Xavier’s mother that we are leaving. I will pass it on to Harold. Excuse me," Selene said, leaving the two men to find the butler.
"You said that it is fine, but you don’t look pleased to leave. Am I disturbing something?" Zephyr asked, hoping that it was so.
"No. This is how I always look. Why would I be annoyed that she has to go see the family she thought was dead?" Xavier replied, keeping watch of where Selene walked.
"I suggest you be a little bit happier instead of always having that expression. I am curious about you and the Blackthorns. Who among them has troubled her?" Zephyr inquired.
"My father and I can tell you where to go if you want to kill him," Xavier replied.
"The Everharts might be far away, but news of what happens here always reaches me. I shall return in great haste if I hear that your family troubles Selene. She doesn’t need to put up with another family turning on her. Ensure that I won’t need to come here," said Zephyr.
"You should start getting to know me and realise how much I love Selene. I have never allowed my father or other relatives who would think of harming her to get near her. The sooner you realise that this marriage is one with love, the better it will be for you," Xavier said.
Xavier continued to say, "As I once told Selene, I am not Gabriel. Whatever she faced with Gabriel will not happen here. If that is what you are thinking, then you must stop since Selene is happy here."
"I thought she was happy with others before you. I am not comparing you to the former husband. I am watching to see how you are with her. The Blackthorns don’t have a good record with women who marry into the family unless they are from your royal families," said Zephyr.
The Blackthorns are quiet now, but Zephyr knew it wouldn’t be long before they troubled Selene. They were always going to be curious about Xavier having a child.
"I have not come to ruin your marriage when I can see that Selene is happy. I am only asking that you promise me she will be well taken care of. That I do not return and she is alone again," Zephyr explained what he wanted.
"Selene will be well here," Xavier promised. "There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect her because I love her."
"Good," Zephyr accepted Xavier’s answer. "Then we shall get along well."
