Chapter 311: Reunited (2)

"Grandfather, is this where you have been living all along? I thought you liked to sleep outside, so I wasn’t able to visit. Not that you live in a cave," Selene said, surprised by where they walked to get to Zephyr’s home.

"I am not disturbed by anyone while I am here. The only visits I get are from animals. I have lived here from the moment your mother decided to stay in town with your father. It is better than it looks at first glance," said Zephyr.

"I didn’t mean to make it sound awful. I am only surprised that it is here you reside. I would not have found you since I would have looked for a house. Thank you," Selene said after Zephyr held her before she slipped.

"I travelled too much to have a home around the town. This is where I will return to when I visit you," said Zephyr.

"Why?" Selene asked, seeing no need for him to stay here. "There are plenty of rooms in the estate. You don’t have to hide while you are in town. Come stay with us."

"I will think about it. I don’t like to intrude," Zephyr replied.

Zephyr kept his distance to not disturb the couple with his presence. He had done it with Thomas and Seraphina so Thomas wouldn’t be so nervous when Zephyr was to stay overnight.

"You wouldn’t be intruding. The estate is quite large, so we can place you where you will have rooms all to yourself. You must stop being alone, grandfather," Selene said, clinging to Zephyr’s hand as she walked. "You have that in common with Xavier."

Selene’s excitement grew when they reached the mouth of the cave. A little bit more and she would see her parents.

Selene picked at the braid Agnes had done for her. Never before had Selene been so concerned about her appearance. Looking perfect wasn’t on her. She needed something to fidget with.

The further they walked into the cave, the more light there was, and the first thing Selene saw clearly was a couple standing together before a table.

Selene stood still at first, getting used to the sight of her parents alive and well. The last time she had seen them, she was the one who prepared their coffins and laid them to rest. Now they stood before her, breathing like everyone else.

"Selene," Seraphina covered her mouth, trying to hold back her tears. "Thomas," she looked at her husband. "I cannot wait," she said, walking over to where Selene stood.

Only when Seraphina embraced Selene did Selene move as she fully adapted to her parents being alive. She could finally hold her mother and feel her warm breath against her skin.

Selene felt her mother tremble, followed by her sniffling as she cried.

"You are alive," Selene said, returning her mother’s embrace.

Selene rested her head on her mother’s shoulder. To feel her mother respond was all that Selene longed for since her parents’ deaths.

There had been so many times she spoke to them when they laid still or when she visited the graves that she wanted them to respond, but there was only silence.

Now her mother hugged her and spoke.

The sound of her father’s laughter was the final piece Selene was missing. She was ashamed to say that her memory of her father’s laughter was fading, but now he reminded her of just how it sounded.

Thomas hugged his wife and daughter, not wanting to let either of them go.

"You twisted our stories, Selene. The princess saved the king and queen," Thomas said.

Selene laughed, reminded of all the stories her father made up. "I didn’t know I had such a talent, but I am glad that I did. I hated the sight of you two lying so still. I never want to see it again."

Seraphina let go of Selene and palmed her face as Selene wiped away her tears. Seraphina didn’t bother to wipe her own tears. "It will never happen again. Our sweet child. You have done so well. I am proud of all that you have done. We must apologise. We kept so much for you." ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"No, you don’t. You kept it from me to protect me from being curious about the Everharts, and when the palace questioned me, I truly did not know of any family secrets. Everything you did was to protect me, and I am grateful for it," Selene said, appreciative of all that they did.

They were willing to take the family secret to the grave to protect her, and now they were moving far away to protect her.

"I cannot thank you enough for all that you do for me. From my normal life, how you raised me, the memories we created, and so much more, I have loved it all. Had I known the palace was after such a secret, I would have been even more afraid. You did what you needed to, so I don’t need you to apologise," Selene said.

Everyone who hurt them was dead, and though her parents died for a moment, what happened led Selene to Xavier. They were all back together again where they belonged.

"I still think that we must apologise. We were alive and didn’t let you know. We were hoping that you would live without knowing the power you possess, so you wouldn’t worry about it. I was always worried about someone finding out what I could do. It is no way to live," Seraphina said.

Seraphina still wanted to know how Selene found out about her talent since Zephyr was keeping it a secret. Was the person who cut Selene with a holy weapon still alive?

"I found out by accident, so no one purposely revealed it to me. Xavier was only curious after he mysteriously healed. I am a bit late with introductions. You remember Xavier," Selene said, going to stand by Xavier’s side.

"Of course I do," Seraphina replied, the memories of a short Xavier flooded her mind. "Never did I think you two would marry, but I am thrilled that it is you she found comfort with. Thank you."

"You look like your father," Thomas said, patting Xavier’s shoulders. "What? Did I say something wrong?"

Selene laughed since her father was not aware of the ruined relationship between Xavier and Nathaniel.

"You didn’t say anything wrong, father. Xavier does look like Nathaniel, but any mention of Nathaniel sours Xavier’s mood. Do not worry," Selene said, squeezing Xavier’s hand. "You prepared dinner so early?"

"Yes," Seraphina said, composing herself to be a good host. "It’s been so long since we sat together to eat. I thought the moment called for it."
