Chapter 309: Quiet day (3)

Zephyr arrived at the Blackthorn estate for the first time in his life. He landed just before the gates, where guards pointed weapons at him at first, only to lower them once they realised who was present.

Zephyr walked toward the gates, which were opened for him. He was curious how the guards knew his face so well when he wasn’t one to show his face around the town.

What description of him did Xavier give his guards?

Zephyr took a stroll up to the front doors, getting a good look at the place Selene called home. The one thing that bothered him was the sunlight. If he had time, he would have come at night.

Zephyr went up to the door and knocked two times, then waited for a response.

The door was opened by Harold.

"I am here to see my granddaughter Selene Blackthorn. She is not expecting me, but I didn’t have time to send a notice ahead. I must see her now," said Zephyr.

"Lord and Lady Blackthorn are enjoying a stroll outside. You may sit in a drawing room while I inform them of your presence," Harold said, holding the door open for Zephyr to enter. "Can I offer you something to drink while you wait?"

"Some blood would be wonderful. It is a hot day," Zephyr replied.

Zephyr was curious how Selene dealt with the sun when it was so hot.

Harold led Zephyr to the drawing room. He was surprised but also delighted to see Selene had family visiting. It was a first and hopefully, better than all the visits Nathaniel made.

Zephyr sat down and waited for Selene’s arrival. He took notice of the fact that there were no portraits of Selene and Xavier around the home. Zephyr still had two he cherished, which were of him and Seraphina when she was a little girl and one he recreated with Selene.

Of all the treasures Zephyr collected around the town, nothing had ever come close to the portraits he travelled with.

During his wait, Zephyr heard many things he found interesting, like the chatter about Josephine Blackthorn. He was curious how Selene found it to be living with Xavier’s mother. freёweɓnovel.com

Outside, Selene still laid with Xavier, thinking about their next step to prepare for a child.

"We mustn’t tell anyone. Not even your mother, though I know she would be happy to hear we are trying. I don’t want to hear anyone’s ideas of how we should do it, or to be treated like I am suddenly fragile. I’ve been through that before," Selene shared.

"How? You said you never shared a bed with him," said Xavier.

"That wasn’t told to Lucinda. She sometimes lingered to check if I would show any signs, but then she would speak of how terrible it would be to have a pureblood child. I want to keep this between us for as long as we can. Promise me?" Selene said, sticking out her finger for a deal to be made.

Xavier stared at the finger pointed at him. He would have thought it was silly if it were anyone other than Selene doing it. "I promise. Between us, I think it is more likely you would share the news first. Will Agnes know?"

"She might know in time. She is always by my side, so she will be helpful in the future, but for now, it is only between us. I do believe as well that I might be the one to spoil it," Selene said, her excitement quickly growing.

Xavier found Selene to be even more lovely as she laid before him.

"What is it?" Selene asked, noticing his gaze. "Does that upset you?"

"No," Xavier shook his head. "I was only thinking of how lovely you look now. You dressed up quite a bit for a walk. Was it to seduce me?"

"I thought I should look pretty for your day. I do think Agnes and I got a little carried away since it is too much to wear at home," said Selene.

"I like it," Xavier said, leaning forward to kiss Selene.

Seeing that her neck was bare, Xavier thought of giving Selene a few necklaces.

Xavier soon became annoyed by the sound of footsteps coming their way. "I said not to disturb us."

Selene sat up to see Lucas coming toward them. "Is there trouble?"

"No. I was sent to inform you that Lady Blackthorn’s grandfather is waiting inside-"

"He is here?" Selene exclaimed, delighted by the news. She stood up without anyone’s help and started to make her way back, only to realise her mistake. "Xavier," she said, turning around to look at him.

There was much to be packed up, and she couldn’t leave Xavier behind.

"Go," Xavier said, standing up to join her. "Lucas will pack up for us."

Lucas looked at all the untouched food being left behind. He would surely pack it up since he intended to sneak away a few of what was left.

Selene offered her hand out to Xavier for him to hold as they walked together. "Did you know my grandfather was coming?"

"When you gave me a full day to do as I liked, I suspected someone would disturb us. I did not think it would be Zephyr," Xavier replied.

Xavier expected a visit from the town guards because of Darius’s death, but it seemed that Michael was keeping his promise to place the blame on Vivienne.

"You will still have every hour owed to you. My grandfather’s arrival only changes that we might have to move your day to tomorrow. Is that fine?" Selene asked, not wanting to spoil Xavier’s time.

"It is," Xavier replied.

Selene felt better being excited about her grandfather’s arrival now that she knew Xavier was fine with losing his day for now. She wanted to run inside to see Zephyr and hug him, but she was also a little nervous.

What if his visit came with bad news?

Were her parents well? Was her grandfather well after what he did in the palace?

Zephyr could heal, but it didn’t stop Selene from worrying.

Selene and Xavier soon returned inside, going straight to where Zephyr was waiting for them.

All concerns went away once Selene saw that familiar face she missed dearly.

"Grandfather!" Selene called out, letting go of Xavier’s hand to run to Zephyr.

Zephyr was everything that Selene remembered to be.

Zephyr stood up, embracing Selene when she came to him. "My sweet little one. Look at you," he said, noticing how much she had grown. "I am sorry that I have been away for so long. I am here now," he said, relishing in the long-awaited reunion.
