Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 303: Offer (2)
Chapter 303: Offer (2)
"I picked your clothes for you already. Do you need blood? Must you stand like that?" Selene asked, averting her eyes from Xavier’s direction when he stood up without warning.
"You can offer yourself to me for an entire day, yet you cannot look at me when I am naked? It is strange how your mind works, but I enjoy it," Xavier said, covering himself so Selene would look at him again.
"I am covered."
Selene waited for a moment before she faced him again. "I don’t like to stare. You would never let me forget it."
"I wouldn’t," Xavier confessed.
It was always too hard to let a chance to tease Selene slip by.
"Cassandra is dead. She was among the humans attacking, and to my surprise, she had a demon attached to her. There is no doubt that she was coming here for you. Either that or she thought Gabriel was here," said Xavier.
Selene was only surprised by the news of Cassandra having a demon attached to her. "I knew I heard her voice. Why did they think it was a good idea to come here with so few humans? I am glad that they didn’t prepare well because the estate is still in good standing."
"If the man I killed was the one leading them, then it makes perfect sense why they foolishly attacked us. He wasn’t in his right mind, and they were blindly following him. They were doomed to fail the second he worked with a demon," Xavier said.
Xavier left Selene’s side to get dressed in the clothes Selene prepared.
"There has been so much happening around the town long before this. I am a little interested in why demons have only appeared now. What were the priests doing?" Selene wondered.
"They killed their kind and vampires who never troubled humans. The man I have in the dungeon has confessed that he is the one who killed Lucinda. He thought I would free him of his guilt by killing him, but I will keep him alive a little longer," said Xavier.
Selene frowned, put off by this. The man who knew and worked with Cassandra in the church was the one who killed Lucinda?
Never had it crossed her mind that Cassandra and anyone close to her could pull off killing Lucinda.
"Gabriel was so certain that it was me, while all along, the person was so close to him. A tiny part of me wishes he were still alive to know he brought his mother’s killer into his home. I am certain Cassandra played a big role in Lucinda’s death," Selene said, once again relieved she got far away from Cassandra and Gabriel.
Perhaps giving in to what Xavier wanted for a day wasn’t so bad since he had saved her from potentially being harmed by Cassandra and the priests she knew.
"For a woman who looked away when I stood up, you are staring quite intently now. What is it? Are you hurt?" Xavier asked, taking notice of where her hand was placed.
Xavier knew well that Selene wasn’t pregnant since he didn’t sense anything. Then again, it was too early for them to know.
This made him think of keeping her away from Orlork since an old bat like him would take notice of if she was pregnant sooner.
"Nothing. Now I must ask why you are staring at me."
"I was thinking of the chance of you carrying our child," Xavier shared.
Selene was thankful to be sitting, or she might have slipped. "W-What?" She stuttered, moving her hand from where it rested. "Is there something you noticed?"
"No, I was only thinking about it. It is too soon for me to tell, and if I sense something, I would not hide it from you. There is a chance that it might come sooner than we planned. We both enjoy the act that will make it happen," Xavier said, thinking about how it would be when that time came.
"I am well aware. I am thankful that you have not noticed anything now. Oh, not that I wouldn’t want a child with you. You are my husband, and I love you, but tonight isn’t the time I want to learn of such news," Selene said, rambling off.
"I know, Selene. We have had this talk before that we both wouldn’t mind having a child. I would not like to find out on a night like this as well," Xavier agreed.
"I would like a time when my parents and grandfather are around for us to share happy news and move forward. I hope to see them now that most of the danger we were concerned about is gone. Will you meet with them to arrange it?" Selene asked, her patience soon running out.
"I will inform your grandfather tomorrow and arrange to meet the day after."
"Why must it be the day after tomorrow?" Selene asked, wanting to see her parents sooner.
"Because then the day you have offered me will be taken up by the reunion," Xavier said.
"You! How is that more important than me finally seeing my parents? We have forever together, so you might have another day. I hope that there is nothing to keep me from seeing them. You still have not heard of any Everharts," Selene said, hoping it meant none were in town.
"I will ask, but is it up to your grandfather and parents to decide when they will come unless you want me to bring them here by force?" Xavier asked, willing to do it though it might ruin the reunion.
"No, thank you. I do not want them to think I am with a crazy man. We should make a suggestion for us to meet, and I will write a letter expressing how much I miss them. Also that I cannot wait. I truly thought my grandfather would return with you," Selene said, disappointed it didn’t happen.
Xavier now thought of where Zephyr had gone. Where was he taking the weapon to be cleaned?
Xavier wasn’t worried about Zephyr coming face to face with the humans still attacking, since Zephyr could protect himself. He was only concerned about the palace guards already tracking Zephyr.
"Someone is at the door," Selene said, standing up from her chair. "’Could it be more news of attacks, or has Isaac arrived already?"
Selene wished for it to be the latter since she didn’t want to see Xavier head out again. She had only just gotten him back.
"Wait here for me," Xavier said, followed by a quick kiss on Selene’s cheek. "I will take care of this and return to you shortly."
