Chapter 242: Rare (3)

"No one will be cutting Selene," Xavier promised.

"Besides you?"

Xavier bit his tongue. Zephyr was pushing it here, and the only reason Xavier was being kind was because Selene adored her grandfather. The kindness was quickly slipping away.

"I know you hate my grandfather but you do not know me. To judge me based on what you think about him is foolish, considering that I have been the only one to protect Selene. Being rude to me will only upset her," Xavier advised Zephyr.

Xavier added, "And it’s only so much I will take before I consider putting you back to sleep or worse."

"Is that a threat?" Zephyr asked, enjoying the talk.

Xavier was bold, which was expected of a Blackthorn.

"No, it is a promise, but I’d hate to have to kill one of the few relatives she adores. Focus on telling me your plans and forget that I cut her. Go on," Xavier urged Zephyr.

Zephyr saw Xavier to be more like his grandfather than his father. "I am going after the men in the court who went after Seraphina and her family. I would go after the king who wanted her, but he is asleep. Now, my eyes are set on the current king."

"Darius won’t be alive for long. I am already taking care of that since my marriage will never be peaceful as long as he is around to trouble us. I heard from my mother that Darius’s father was curious about Seraphina," said Xavier.

"Those bastards only wanted to have a child with her so they could have the right to know the Everharts’ secrets. I’m going to kill everyone who suggested the king take her from her home and force her to the palace. He killed her because she wouldn’t accept him or share her secrets," Zephyr said, angry just at the thought of it.

Zephyr couldn’t shake the anger he felt when he woke up to the news that his daughter had been taken by the court and killed by a holy weapon. He knew Seraphina would survive, but what if she couldn’t heal?

What if there hadn’t been a secret the Everharts were hiding and they just wanted to be alone?

"They tortured them both before they decided to kill them. If they had ripped their heads off, then my daughter wouldn’t have come back from that. They have hell to pay for what they did, and I will send them to the devil for it to happen," Zephyr said, unable to rest until it happened.

"You can still kill Darius’s father and any of the others who went to sleep with him. He rests in the palace with all the others. I can get you there, or I can kill them both myself. I prefer the latter," said Xavier.

"No," Zephyr shook his head. "I have been watching you carefully to know you already have too many eyes on you. I can kill them myself so nothing leads back to you."

"I don’t care if they find out it was me who killed him. The guards won’t be dragging me off anywhere, nor will Darius’s family. I am not afraid," Xavier said, ready for war if it needed to come to that.

"You may not be afraid, but Selene will worry about the consequences. I ask that you remain at her side and stay there unless I send for you. I know when to ask for help, and right now, I do not need it," said Zephyr.

Zephyr would only need Xavier’s help if everything else failed.

"I have not been around for a few years, but I am still quite close to my old friends. Many despise the king and want him dead or at least forced to rest. They fear for their lives or their daughters’ safety, so they will join me to get rid of him," Zephyr shared.

Zephyr continued, "I know it would please you to help kill him, but if what you say is true that you are best to protect Selene, I cannot have you away from her side. You must watch out for the Everharts while I deal with the king and court."

Since Xavier wasn’t familiar with the Everharts, Zephyr knew it was likely they could steal Selene the moment Xavier wasn’t around. It wouldn’t matter who Xavier placed to watch her.

"Had I not gotten to their bodies first, the Everharts would have come to take them, and when they saw both alive, they would have suspected Selene and Seraphine. I must know now. If you two were to have children in the future, would you risk your life to stop them from being taken?" Zephyr asked.

"No one would ever get my children. Since you are so afraid of Selene meeting the others, tell me what it is the Everharts are doing that you fear. Aside from them wanting to keep her out of sight, there has to be more," Xavier said, knowing what was told couldn’t be all.

"We have never found out why it is only our family who received such good talent. Perhaps there are more like us, but they are also hiding it. Some suggested testing to learn what else we can do. Since we’re purebloods, these tests push the limit. It is why, regardless of the danger here, I never wanted Seraphina there," Zephyr answered.

The Everharts were obsessed with this power just as everyone else was.

"Selene is rare in our family. Not even my father possessed that kind of power, and there might be other things she can do, but I don’t want any tests to find them out. As I told the Everharts long ago, Selene is like the Harrisons, not us. It must stay that way," said Zephyr.

"It was possible that some children don’t inherit the power. It was then brought up that we should marry within the family, but I was against it. Selene’s life here isn’t the most peaceful, but it is better than what awaits her there."

"I hope you aren’t too fond of who will be coming to see you, Selene or Seraphina, because I will kill them if they try to take her. I will enjoy finding other ways for your family to be killed. I will protect Selene," Xavier promised.

As disappointing as it would be, Xavier would stay back and let Zephyr continue with his plans to kill Darius while he protected Selene. The latter was more important since he didn’t know anything about the Everharts.

"I will stay out of your way as long as you promise me one thing. Selene might not be able to see her parents now, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t write to her. I can have it so that the palace spies don’t notice it. It is about time she communicates with them," Xavier suggested.

"Very well," Zephyr agreed. He knew Seraphina would love to see Selene’s handwriting and know from Selene that she was well. "They thought it was best Selene didn’t know what kind of power she held, so it would be easier to keep the secret. No one was to cut her."

"Again with me cutting her," Xavier muttered. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"I will always think of it. Now, have you killed all the Harrisons who turned on her when she needed them most? I want the names of the ones still alive," Zephyr said, far from finished with who needed to be killed.
