Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 241: Rare (2)
Chapter 241: Rare (2)
"Where are her parents? She knows their bodies have been moved," said Xavier.
"They are safe. I am taking care of my daughter and her husband," Zephyr replied, passing the two to walk further into the cave.
Orlork remained silent, taking in everything that was said. Xavier truly did know more than he did.
"No one thought of how she would feel to find out their graves were empty. You might have been killing those who trouble her, but you’ve given her more reasons to cry, and I don’t like to see my wife crying unless it is happy tears," said Xavier.
"Those graves were not to be dug up. It was never planned for those two to be buried, but Selene managed to find a good place for them to rest. She did well," Zephyr said, proud of what Selene did by herself. "I was resting when it happened. I woke up long after they were gone."
Zephyr first searched for Selene only to find she had been married to a mixed-blood. He thought she was safe there, so he searched for where his daughter was since she had to be alive.
"I wanted to find her parents before I dragged her into bigger troubles. We thought of putting an end to what the palace started before she would see her parents again. They did not want anyone to have their eyes on Selene, but then she married you, which spread her name around," said Zephyr.
"Are you hiding from the other Everharts? Since you arrived, you’ve been saying a lot of nothing, leaving us in the dark. It is about time you share your plans with him. He is the one who has been keeping her safe. I can leave so the secrets remain between you two," Orlork suggested.
Zephyr stared at Xavier. "Do you know what makes Selene special? Have you noticed anything?"
"I did, and I want to know more. Selene needs answers since you have all kept her in the dark," said Xavier.
Zephyr turned to Orlork. "Leave us. I will only speak to your grandson."
Orlork excused himself, leaving the two to speak. In time, he would find out.
Xavier looked around the cave. "Is there somewhere else you plan to speak?"
"There are stones placed all around the cave. We will go further to speak," Zephyr replied, leading the way.
Xavier followed Zephyr, but he was cautious about what he was walking into. He didn’t trust Zephyr, and he was quite certain Zephyr didn’t trust him.
It wouldn’t come as a surprise that rather than share secrets, Zephyr would try to keep him here.
"You are ready to fight. I don’t plan to kill you. Not now," Zephyr said, relaxed since he was back home. "Unless you harm her, I won’t kill you. I won’t kill you to have her out searching for you, and I won’t kill you if it means she will hate me."
The cave lit up as fires appeared on lanterns.
The inside of the cave was full of many treasures which had to come from the adventures Selene spoke of. A coffin was placed in the middle.
"What did you find out about Selene?" Zephyr asked, curious if Xavier knew the family secret or if he was bluffing.
"She can heal from holy weapons. I assume that is how her mother and father survived their punishment from the palace," Xavier shared what he knew.
"Who cut her with a holy weapon for her to find out? Did you?" Zephyr questioned, his eyes narrowing in on Xavier. This he would kill Xavier for. "What reason did you have to cut her?"
"It was to test my theory. I was the one cut by a holy weapon, and when I sat with Selene, the wound started to heal. She agreed to test it and she healed. I didn’t cut my wife for no reason. What is it?" Xavier questioned, confused by Zephyr acting so surprised. "Is that not the family secret?"
Zephyr ignored Xavier’s question and thought of the chances of Selene being able to heal someone.
"You must speak," Xavier said, annoyed by Zephyr being silent. "Enough with keeping what you know to yourself."
"When I found my daughter, I expected to only find her alive. I found her in a deep sleep, but still very much alive. What’s surprising is that I found her husband also in a deep sleep when he should have been dead. We possess the power to heal from holy weapons, but we can’t heal anyone," Zephyr said, hearing of this happening for the first time.
"We kept to ourselves because we knew the others would think we could find some way to heal them. We’ve tested it on those who marry into our family, but it never worked. Now it has. I finally have the answer to why her father was still alive," said Zephyr.
Selene was special. Too special, which added to what Zephyr was concerned about. This was all the more reason to keep Selene out of his plans for now and he had to keep the others away from her.
No one should ever learn of this.
"She is the first of your family to heal others. I healed simply from her touch," Xavier said, amazed she had such a rare talent. "Are you able to enter churches?"
"Our elders were surprised to realise the church didn’t have any effect on us during the war. We could have been royals like your family, but we chose to protect these secrets," Zephyr explained.
Every pureblood would be at their doors, requesting to be healed if this secret were to get out. Like the previous king’s interest in his daughter, Orlork knew the current king would want to have children with Selene.
"You mustn’t let anyone know about this. Not only would they seek her out for her blood, but it would attract the other Everharts to come here. They will want to keep her out of sight and any child she might have," Zephyr said, realising he had to act faster with his plans.
"This isn’t new to us. Everyone is quite interested in when we will have children. You are avoiding the rest of your family. Shouldn’t they already know her mother was here and was keeping an eye on her? Everyone knows what happened to her parents," Xavier said, finding it strange the Everharts weren’t around.
"I promised the others I would watch my daughter. I promised that the moment the secret could get out, I would bring her home. I lied to let her enjoy her life as she wanted and let her raise Selene as she saw fit. Someone from the palace started to trouble them. They were protecting themselves," Zephyr explained.
The palace had twisted what happened. Zephyr got the truth from his daughter.
"My Seraphina kept to herself, enjoying her life with her husband and child. The palace was the one who threatened to take Selene if my daughter didn’t share her secrets, so they did what they needed to protect their daughter," Zephyr shared the real story.
Zephyr continued, "They wish to see Selene, but there are too many palace spies around you two. We cannot make the mistake of the palace finding out they are alive as then the secret would be out. Then the Everharts are coming. You mustn’t let anyone cut Selene."
Zephyr knew the second the others realised she could heal, they would not make the mistake of letting her live here like they did with Seraphina.
