Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 230: Trick (3)
Chapter 230: Trick (3)
"Lord Blackthorn, your wife and mother have returned," Harold informed Xavier.
"Harold, you normally notice when something is off within the estate. Didn’t you see a stray enter?" Xavier asked.
"I did. The servant who welcomed her is captured, and I knew you would be best at dealing with the princess. It was two servants passing on news to the princess and helping her to get in. I will deal with the servants along with Gertrude," Harold said, taking it off Xavier’s hands.
"You must give them a good demonstration of what happens when they betray me. Use the two who helped the princess for it. Where is Selene now?" Xavier asked, deciding to see her first.
"She should be near the dining room," Harold replied.
"I have an important task for you, Harold. Before you deal with the servants, I need you to change everything on our bed and do what you can to rid the room of the princess’s scent. Go now,’ Xavier urged Harold.
He couldn’t have a repeat of Selene not feeling comfortable on their bed.
Harold bowed and then bolted to do as Xavier asked.
Xavier headed to the dining room to see Selene and his mother. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Josephine was the first to notice Xavier. "He’s back. I was just showing Selene here how to be a good host since your grandfather will be visiting at some point. Who woke him?"
"He left one of his servants to wake him. You should know your husband can lose the Blackthorn name should he bother with my marriage. We both know he doesn’t believe he will lose the name," said Xavier.
Josephine nodded her head. Of course, Nathaniel wouldn’t give up.
"Your father can be very stubborn and doesn’t listen when he should. It’s a fitting punishment for him if he doesn’t listen, and I like that it is coming from his father. I am not upset. I am concerned," Josephine confessed.
Josephine didn’t want Nathaniel to lose his family name.
"Do you know if he is searching for me?" Josephine asked.
Why hadn’t she heard of him coming to the gates?
Nathaniel should have known right away that the first person she would visit was Xavier, and then she would go home to her father.
"He might be searching for you, but I don’t know how well he is doing it. It might not be long before he shows up wanting to speak to you or about my grandfather. Should I get the servants ready to send your things back?" Xavier asked, curious as to whether she would leave the moment her husband came.
Josephine looked at Selene before turning back to Xavier. "Xavier, I already mentioned to Selene today that if I do let my marriage with your father continue, we would not be heading back to our home. I would go out of town for it to be just us, or I would rest with him."
"After all the years you told me not to rest, now you want to go to sleep so you can get him out of our way? That isn’t a good idea. You don’t want to go to sleep now," Xavier said, refusing to believe it was what she truly wanted.
The times Xavier spoke about a coffin were the times she was most upset, and he heard her speaking about grandchildren here and there. Josephine wouldn’t want to miss that.
"It is only an option I have considered. It isn’t for certain yet. I don’t mind being with your father like that and keeping him out of the way from you. I’ll be happy resting beside him. He’s a fool, but he’s the fool I picked, and I have not stopped loving him yet. I’m just angry," said Josephine.
"I think we should deal with this when we get to that road. For now, we should think of Orlork visiting us," Selene spoke up to stop the two before an argument started.
"We should. Orlork is going to be your most important guest, Selene. Get him to like you, and he will deal with the others. Your only concern would be Xavier’s great-grandfather. He is the one you will want to avoid," Jopsehine said.
Josephine remembered Orlork to be the more welcoming one, especially after she had Xavier. He was the one who warned her about his father and up to this point, Josephine was yet to understand why he warned her to stay away.
"I will remember that," Selene noted.
’’I am sensing Xavier wants to speak to you alone, so I will get cleaned up and prepare to leave," Josephine said, walking toward the entrance of the room.
Xavier frowned. "Where are you going at this hour? I told you it is dangerous."
"Xavier, I know how dangerous it is, which is why I am going to be careful. It is time that I meet with a friend instead of only speaking to Selene or Harold. I am the parent here," Josephine reminded Xavier. She was not going to be told what to do by her son.
"It is not safe for you to go out. I know that you can protect yourself, but I would rather you not be put in a position where you have to fight. If you don’t want to worry me, I ask that you stay," said Xavier.
Josephine thought over what she would do at first, then replied, "If I must stay here, then my friend must come to see me here. Unless you want me to bore Selene with my talk?"
Xavier considered letting his mother leave so they wouldn’t have the unwanted guest, but despite what he wanted, he replied, "Invite them."
"Wonderful. I should bother Selene a little more to get what I want," Josephine replied.
"Before you leave to cause trouble, you must know the princess is now my prisoner here. She came onto the estate without permission again, so I imprisoned her. You might hear she is missing in a few days. Lie or tell the truth, I don’t care," Xavier said.
Xavier wasn’t going to keep it a secret for long that Morgana was here since Darius would eventually come searching for her, though he wouldn’t get her back.
If Darius was as foolish as his sister to step onto the estate without permission, then Xavier would keep him here as well, having a family reunion in the dungeon.
"Morgana is here? Why did she come? Was it to hurt Selene or to speak with you?" Josephine asked, furious that Morgana would show up again. "What have they taught that girl?"
Selene was more concerned about where and how Xavier found Morgana when she was the one home all day. "Where did you find her? I would hate to think she has been here long before you returned home."
"She was in our room using her talent to appear as you, most likely to seduce me, but I noticed it right away. She was getting dressed right before the bed. You wouldn’t do that even if I were asleep. Your shyness has come in handy," Xavier said, lifting her hand for a kiss to see how she would react.
Selene wanted to pull her hand away since Jospehine was watching.
Xavier held onto Selene’s hand, making up for the time they were apart. "No one can replicate you, Selene. The way you try to run is one of a kind."
