Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 229: Trick (2)
Chapter 229: Trick (2)
Xavier took Morgana down to the dungeon, which was going to be her home until he felt like releasing her.
"Open it," Xavier ordered the guard who normally watched the prisoners.
Morgana was on the verge of tears. She was the princess of the kingdom, not some peasant to be thrown into a cell. "When Darius hears of this, he will not rest until I am free."
"If he hears about this," Xavier corrected Morgana. "He can’t interfere with me imprisoning you. You shifted as my wife and went where you did not belong. I don’t have time for your games," he said, pushing Morgana into the cell.
Morgana slipped on something wet on the floor and fell, dirtying her dress. She was afraid to look down to see what now covered her dress and hand. "Please," she looked up at Xavier. "I won’t do this again."
"I know you won’t. I will make sure of it," Xavier replied.
The best way for him to ensure this wouldn’t be repeated was to keep her here. He would like to kill her, but Morgana might come in handy later on.
"Lord Blackthorn."
Xavier glanced to the right at the guard behind him. "Gather the servants. Bring anyone who tries to run here."
"You won’t find them, and you’re going to get yourself locked away in the palace by keeping me here. I already told my brother what my plan was. This will be the first place he looks. Let me go, and I won’t say anything," Morgana promised.
Xavier wasn’t interested in her offer. "I know you, Morgana. You’re going to return to the palace and come up with a new plan to find your way to my side. I want to avoid that."
"Why?" Morgana asked, seeking answers. "Why didn’t you pick me? I loved you, and I have known you longer. I would have done anything to help you against Darius, but you chose the woman who is hated by our kind. Why?"
"I don’t need to explain why I picked her. Be kind to the princess by cleaning out her new home," Xavier said, taking a few steps back so he wouldn’t be in the way.
Morgana frowned, confused as to how they were going to clean it when she was already inside, but then she saw the guards coming toward her with buckets. "No!" She panicked, turning to Xavier for help. "Don’t do this to me."
Seeing that Xavier wouldn’t help her, Morgana backed away from the iron bars, but the cold water thrown to clean the cell still reached her.
"You’re dramatic, Morgana. We both know you won’t catch a cold," said Xavier.
It wasn’t the coldness of the water which concerned Morgana but rather the blood she noticed running out of the cell. Xavier had thrown her where someone bled out, and he did not clean it up.
The scent of blood was everywhere, but she had hoped it wasn’t blood she fell on.
To get away, Morgana shifted into a bat to fly between the bars but was faced with the cruel reality that she was too big to slip through.
"You’re not the first shifter we had as a guest here. You’ll be a good test for how I need to design the other cells if you can get out. You should get some rest, Morgana. I am told the first night is always the hardest," said Xavier.
Morgana shifted back to her body and grabbed the bars to pull on them in hopes of bending them, but it was useless.
Xavier enjoyed the show.
Each guest always had the same idea to try to get out of the cell as though they were the first ones there. Each guest was used to make the dungeon better and better. Xavier accounted for every kind of vampire he might one day put in here.
The first thing he considered was a vampire’s strength, so the iron bars were specially made.
"What is this?" Morgana questioned, stepping away from the bars. Her breathing was unsteady as she continued to panic.
Her plan was so simple that she believed it couldn’t fail. It had started so well for her, with Selene being away from the room and Xavier returning in a tired state.
All Morgana needed to do was sleep with him as Selene and have his child, then she would return to the palace where she would be protected.
"The least you could have done to make your plan work was to study my wife a little more. The first mistake you made was getting dressed right there before me. I have to thank my wife for being so shy," Xavier said.
Morgana failed to understand why Selene would be too shy to get changed before Xavier. Any woman in the kingdom, whether vampire or not, would do it without a second thought.
Morgana laughed. It was starting to be funny who Xavier picked over her. "You’ve lost your mind. That is the only thing which makes sense. What the court says is true."
"You made the mistake of believing my father when he said I was considering you. You were never on my mind, Morgana. You act like a spoiled child who thinks she can get what she sets her sight on. You never loved me. You liked looking at me. It is fair," Xavier said since he had a good face.
"I loved you. I have never loved anyone like I loved you. I went as far as to enter your home, knowing the consequences, because I want to be with you. It makes more sense for us to be together. Imagine how our children would be," Morgana said to sway his opinion. "They could be shifters like me."
Xavier wished everyone would stop bringing up children. They would never change his mind.
"Your father wanted us together for a good reason, and I was already in love with you, so it would work. You didn’t give me a fair chance. We never got to talk, and you judged me because you hate my brother. I am only asking for one chance," Morgana pleaded.
Morgana had spent too much time preparing for a life with Xavier for it to end like this. He was promised to her and only her. Vivienne had gotten in the way of that once, and now, Selene was in the way.
"I am married. I don’t need another woman at my side, and I hate my father. That should have been the first clue to not listen to his promises. I have better things to do than to answer you, so speak to the guards," Xavier said, leaving Morgana to her new friends.
"Wait!" Morgana yelled. He couldn’t leave her like this.
Xavier continued on his way out. "You won’t be alone for long. I’ll bring you some friends."
