"It is done." Darius kissed Vivienne’s hand. "Your father is out of the palace now. Just like I said I would do."

Vivienne smiled. "Thank you. I am sorry for putting you in this position. Now, my father will not only be angry with me but with you as well. Still, I think it was the right decision. He was getting in my ear, creating a rift in our marriage."

Darius still didn’t know what had occurred between Vivienne and Victor, but he was happy to see Vivienne come to her senses. They hadn’t argued since he promised to get rid of Victor, and she had stuck by his side.

"I will deal with your father if he tries to create trouble. I will protect you since you are my wife. Will you tell me now what he said to ruin our marriage? Did he speak of not voting for me?" Darius asked, curious if Victor was turning on him.

"No. My father will always vote for you because he wants me to sit as queen. It is other things that pushed me to want him gone. He would not listen to me and wasn’t treating me like I was his daughter. I had enough," said Vivienne.

Darius pulled Vivienne close for a hug. "You did the right thing. He must listen to you now. He may return only when he begs, and I don’t expect you to welcome him back so soon. I did see him getting between us like you said."

"I must also acknowledge what I did wrong. I’ve been unable to control my emotions when thinking about our next child. If we could just take a moment from thinking about another child and get close again, I think it would help our marriage," Vivienne suggested, placing her hand on his chest.

Darius grew suspicious. "You want to work on our marriage? Just like that? After everything you said recently, this doesn’t sound right. Is this Morgana playing a trick on me?" He asked, poking Vivienne’s face.

Vivienne moved his hand. "This is not your sister. I’ve grown tired of fighting with you, my father, your sister and everyone else. I just need one thing in my life to go right, and at the moment, I want my marriage to work. I would like to be more involved in matters of the kingdom."

Darius shook his head. "I don’t want to bore you with talk about the attacks or my plans for humans. The latter is how I plan to get all the votes. I’m going to gather some humans to start my plans. Soon, vampires will be the only ones walking around. Perhaps mixed-bloods will be our servants."

"Mixed-bloods are vampires. I suggest you do not divide us since there are many mixed-bloods. If they were to group up with the humans, we would be greatly outnumbered. You must think carefully about this," Vivienne said, hoping he thought this through.

"We are far stronger. We could take them on, but it won’t come to that," Darius promised. "Do you suddenly care for humans and mixed-bloods?"

"No," Vivienne shook her head. "I am thinking of how this plan might fall. We are strong, but we cannot fight that many at once. Mixed-bloods will turn against you if they are forced to be servants. You should give them the smaller titles you take from humans to appease them."

Darius considered it. "I would love to keep them in my control while keeping them beneath us. You are wonderful," he kissed Vivienne. "This is why we must get along."

Vivienne could only smile. "Have you found where their holy weapons are? Are you keeping track of the ones within the palace?"

Vivienne wished to know where the holy weapons seized in the war were kept in the palace. With her father gone, Vivienne had no one to get one for her.

"I doubt they have more weapons since we took all, and yes, I am keeping a close eye on the ones in the palace. Like I said, you will worry too much, and I don’t need you doubting me. Focus on coming to my bed when I am done here," Darius suggested.

"You will not have Juliana’s company?" Vivienne asked. Where was Juliana when she was needed?

"No, I have grown bored of her. I am only waiting to see if she is carrying my child. If she is not, I will send her out of the palace. She was a good pick, but nothing about her excites me. I am sorry," Darius apologised.

"You don’t have to apologise. After all, you were looking forward to being near Natalie, right? I hope you will not ask for her since our friendship is done, and so will my friendship with Juliana once you are done with her," said Vivienne.

Vivienne didn’t have anything she would need to say to Juliana when she was no longer at Darius’s side. Juliana bore Vivienne too, and it would be strange for her to be seen with a woman who once shared a bed with her husband.

"I’m sure she will be able to find love elsewhere. It was a great honor for her to be in the palace momentarily. Luckily, I don’t think she has moved all her things here," Vivienne said, thinking Juliana could not get angry then.

"She hasn’t been moving her things because she has been using the palace funds to get what she needs. It might only be me, but it appears as though she is dressing up like you. Has she been a shifter all along?" Darius joked.

Vivienne hit his arm. "It is not funny. She has always been annoying like this. I am only now realising Natalie had been around to shut her up in place of me. Juliana is a fool, but her father is not, so you must do something to please him for sending her away. Find him a good place in the court."

"I will do that. If he’s smart, he will take it. So, was placing Juliana at my side your punishment for me having other women, or was she your little spy? I knew you were up to something the moment you suggested her to me. Was it Victor’s doing?" Darius asked, curious as to what the plan was.

"I have always been able to keep an eye on you, so I didn’t need Juliana to spy on you. I thought she should get the chance because she liked the palace and she was so excited to get married. Little did I know she would become more annoying," Vivienne replied.

Darius wasn’t falling for this, but he allowed it to pass for now since Vivienne was in a good mood. It was going to change at some point, so he had to make the most of it now.

"I will give you all my attention for the next few days. After that, I will be busy with my plans. I need to make this work to get the others on my side."

"What about your plans to get Selene at your side? Nothing seems to be working, so have you given up?" Vivienne wondered.

"I will never give up, Vivienne. You are proof of that," Darius replied.

Vivienne bit her tongue to refrain from saying what was on her mind.

The knock on the door was greatly welcomed to save her.

"Come in," Vivienne gave the order.

The doors opened, revealing Juliana with a bottle and glasses. She was quick to hide them behind her back when she noticed Vivienne.
