Chapter 272: She Wouldn’t Accept It!
Serena rushed inside, but her steps came to a sudden halt. She was shocked to see her grandparents sitting comfortably beside Abigail.
’What the hell happened here? Why is Grandpa speaking gently to that woman?’ Serena couldn’t help but vent her anger inwardly. She felt her heart tighten, and her feet refused to move.
Attempting to ease her irritation, she took a deep breath, but when her gaze settled on Grandma Sophie, she was left speechless.
’Oh my god! Why does Abigail resemble Grandma Sophie?’ She covered her mouth in shock. She tried again to examine their faces more closely. Although the two were not too similar, she could see their similarities at a glance.
’Is Grandma Sophie related to Abigail Snow? How so? This is impossible!’
Too afraid of her thoughts, Serena shook her head, trying to dismiss them. She refused to believe it.
When Serena noticed her grandfather looking at her, she quickly ducked out of sight. She wasn’t prepared to face them, concerned that her grandfather would instantly figure out how much she despised Abigail.
While Serena was still busy calming herself in the corridor, Abigail had stopped dwelling on Serena’s earlier comment. She felt a wave of joy seeing her grandmother looking healthy and happy.
However, Abigail tensed up again at her grandmother’s sudden question. At that moment, a thought crossed her: ’Has Grandpa not mentioned Serena’s relationship with Sawyer to Grandma?’
Abigail glanced at Grandpa and noticed he was talking to Sawyer; he seemed not to be listening to their conversation. She shifted her gaze back to Grandma and replied, "Yes, I met Serena outside..."
Sophie leaned closer to Abigail and whispered, "Oh dear Abby, don’t be rude to her. You should call her sister because she’s older than you. If I’m not mistaken, she’s the same age as Sawyer."
Abigail clenched her fists, trying to suppress her annoyance. She wanted to let Grandma know that Serena was Sawyer’s ex-girlfriend and that Serena hated her so much, but she chose to hold back for now.
She decided to wait until no one was around, especially Grandpa. She was worried that Grandpa would think of her as a petty person.
Abigail could only nod, smiling as if she agreed with her grandmother’s request. However, deep down, she was already planning how to handle Serena later.
’Huh!? Why isn’t Serena back yet? Did she go with Harvey?’
Before Abigail could voice her thoughts, James’s loud voice rang out, calling, "Serena!" This prompted them to look toward the door.
"What are you doing over there? Come here quickly. We need to tell you something," James said excitedly, gesturing for her to join them.
After noticing Serena sitting on the single couch, he continued, "Rena, you know Abigail, right?"
"Y-Yes, Grandpa," Serena replied, clutching her hands silently while giving Abigail an awkward smile.
"I want to tell you that Abigail is my granddaughter with Sophie. Circumstances separated us, and we only met not long ago," James explained.
He had already told Serena and his parents about Sophie—his lost fiancée—but he had never mentioned Abigail to them.
James added, "I know this is shocking to you, Rena, but you must understand that Abigail is your family..." He paused and looked at Abigail, giving her a warm smile.
"Rena, I hope you get along well with Abigail." James’s voice turned serious as he looked at Serena.
As if struck by lightning, Serena was stunned to see Abigail and Sophie. She had suspected it, but she wouldn’t accept it. However, after hearing her grandfather’s explanation, she was left numb and speechless.
’How is that possible? How can I get closer and friendly to her? She stole Sawyer from me!!’ Serena was at a loss for words. She silently gritted her teeth while trying to maintain a calm smile.
Still, it was hard for her to believe that Abigail Moon, whom she thought was just an ordinary woman, turned out to have Philips’ blood in her veins. As for her? There wasn’t a trace of Philips blood in her. Her parents feared this; her Grandpa would soon kick them out of the family.
"Rena? Did you hear me?" James asked again after noticing that Serena hadn’t replied. She was simply staring back at him.
Serena’s hands clenched tightly when she heard her grandfather’s words. "Y-Yes, Grandpa. I heard..." she replied, forcing a small smile as she turned to look at Abigail.
"Abigail, hi—" Serena’s voice caught in her throat, leaving her only able to manage a smile in her direction.
"Hi—" Abigail hesitated, unsure how to respond. She felt at a complete loss for words as she looked at Serena. The fierce and annoying girl she had encountered outside was suddenly transformed, appearing rather obedient in front of their Grandpa.
"Good. I hope you both can become close." James smiled, pleased to see these two girls finally meet and discover their status as family.
After seeing the two girls nod at his words, James turned his gaze to Sawyer, and his expression gradually shifted. The smile on his lips faded; instead, his eyes narrowed slightly.
James let out a deep sigh before voicing his annoyance at Sawyer. He said, "If my Abigail isn’t married to Sawyer yet, she will carry my name. Unfortunately, Sawyer stole her from me before I even knew it."
Sawyer instantly coughed upon hearing James’s words. ’Hell, why is this old man shifting his annoyance onto me?’ He could only laugh inwardly while tightening his grip on his wife’s hand.
Sensing Sawyer’s discomfort, Abigail quickly interjected, "Grandpa, please don’t blame my husband. It’s me who doesn’t want to change my name. I just want to keep my mother’s and Grandma’s names..."
Instead of getting angry, James laughed heartily as he saw his granddaughter sulking while hugging Sawyer’s arm.
"Haha, I was just joking, Abby. Grandpa understands, dear; you prefer Lewis. It’s fine. Grandpa is happy," James said, nodding happily as he watched Abigail finally smile cheerfully. Unlike before, she had been awkward when Serena entered the room.
As Abigail and James joked with each other, Serena was taken aback when she heard Abigail’s last name.
’What the hell! No wonder there’s no information about her recent activities. We’ve been searching for Abigail Snow, and it turns out she has changed her last name to Lewis...’ Serena laughed bitterly. She needed to call Harvey soon to inform him about it.
