Chapter 267: Scared Or Nervous?
The day before the family dinner at the Phillips family’s home.
In the early morning, Abigail lay lazily in bed while talking to her grandma on the phone. She wanted to check on her grandma’s condition because she was concerned that the family dinner might stress her out.
"I’m fine, Abby..." Sophie’s reassuring words did little to ease Abigail’s concern; she remained worried. With no reply from her granddaughter, Sophie continued, "Oh dear, if you’re anxious about me, why not stay overnight here?"
Abigail’s expression stiffened when she heard her grandma’s offer. She began to feel suspicious of herself; she was the one who was scared and nervous about tomorrow’s party, not her grandma.
"Honey, come on. You can ask Sawyer to stay over here." Sophie’s voice snapped Abigail out of her thoughts.
Before Abigail could respond, James’s voice came from the other end. "Abigail, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I need to know when you and Sawyer will be coming tomorrow."
Abigail was taken aback. She didn’t know when they would leave. Sawyer had arranged it and didn’t tell her anything about it.
"I’m not sure, Grandpa. But we’ll probably leave an hour before dinner," she responded.
A soft sigh came from the other end of the line before James Phillips said, "Abby, you are my family, not a guest. I hope you can come early. Your grandma misses you and wants to see you..." The sadness in James’s voice surprised Abigail slightly.
’Geez, Grandpa, are you making excuses, or did you not know that Grandma visited me two days ago?’ Abigail’s mouth twitched in amusement as she listened to him, but she was too exhausted to argue.
Abigail guessed it was her Grandpa who wanted to meet her. Taking a deep breath, she got up from bed and walked outside to look for Sawyer. "Alright, I will talk to Sawyer, Grandpa. I hope we can get there before nightfall."
James laughed when he heard Abigail’s answer. "Hahaha, that sounds great, my dear. We will wait for you tomorrow," he said before returning the cell phone to Sophie.
Abigail didn’t speak long with her grandma because she suddenly felt her breath becoming short and heavy. She grabbed the wall beside her and stood there for a while, feeling her stomach churn as if everything she had just eaten for breakfast wanted to come back up.
"Madam..." Paul said from behind, prompting her to glance back at him. "You look pale... let me help you to a seat."
Abigail shook her head, stopping Paul in his tracks. "Please call my husband," she pleaded, covering her mouth with her hand as another wave of nausea hit her.
She didn’t understand what was happening or why she suddenly felt sick. However, what frightened her most was the sensation of her vision slowly fading to darkness.
Fearing something was seriously wrong, Abigail forced herself to return to her bedroom after watching Paul rush to Sawyer’s study.
When Abigail finally entered the bathroom, tears blurred her vision as she vomited up all the breakfast she had eaten. After a few seconds of being sick, she felt weak, and her body ached like a thorn.
Feeling slightly better, Abigail washed her face. Suddenly, a hand gently scooped her up and carried her as she was about to return to bed.
It was Sawyer’s hands. Sawyer’s tensed voice filled the room. "Abby, my love, what happened? Why do you look so pale?" he asked as he walked to the bed, carrying his wife in his arms. After gently laying Abigail down, he sat on the edge, holding her hand.
"I don’t know. I feel sick and nauseous all of a sudden," Abigail replied weakly. She smiled to keep him from worrying too much, but the tired and frail look in her eyes made Sawyer even more concerned.
"Okay. Maybe you need to take a nap. I’ll call Aaron to check on you," Sawyer said with a smile, gently squeezing her hand. He then stood up from the bed and walked to the glass wall in the corner to make a call.
Abigail didn’t stop him; she understood that what she was experiencing was called morning sickness. The obstetrician who had examined her a few days earlier had informed her, and she had also read numerous articles online.
However, she had been skeptical about its existence, especially after several days of feeling fine. But now, as nausea swept over her and she felt the urge to vomit, she regretted ever doubting the reality of morning sickness.
A bitter smile crossed Abigail’s lips as she closed her eyes to sleep. Perhaps after a short nap, she would feel alright.
...
When Abigail opened her eyes again, she was shocked to see an IV needle in her hand. However, her surprise quickly transformed into a relieved smile when she realized she was still in her bedroom, meaning Sawyer had not taken her to the hospital.
But Abigail’s smile faded when she heard the voices of several women chatting nearby. She glanced at the sitting area at the end of the room and was startled to see her mother-in-law and Martha speaking in hushed tones.
Abigail also noticed that Sawyer was with them. He appeared tense but remained in place, listening to his mother and grandmother talk.
’Gosh, Sawyer Jones, why did you call them to come here?’ Abigail sighed deeply. She attempted to sit up just as Sawyer noticed her.
"Abby, are you awake?" Sawyer asked as he rushed to her side. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Not only was Sawyer rushing to the bed, but Hannah and Martha were already standing beside it, smiles brightening their faces.
"Mom, Grandma ..." Abigail smiled at them, her hands tightly clenched in Sawyer’s grip. "I’m sorry to make you worry. I just feel—"
"Oh, honey," Hannah responded before Abigail could finish her sentence. "Don’t worry. We’re delighted to have received Sawyer’s call, so we came here immediately to congratulate you. Congratulations, honey..." She said this while sitting on the edge of the bed after telling Sawyer to move.
"Yes, Abigail. You have no idea how delighted we are to be here now," Martha added.
The three of them chatted warmly, which allowed Sawyer, who had been very worried about Abigail’s condition, to breathe a sigh of relief. He smiled as he looked at Abigail’s face, which was no longer pale and was beginning to regain color.
He stood there momentarily before being distracted by his cell phone vibrating in his pocket. When he saw who was calling, his expression turned serious.
