Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 221: Agree To Meet
Chapter 221: Agree To Meet
Abigail finally spoke up, breaking the silence in the room, "James Philips is outside waiting to meet you—"
"Abby..." Sophie looked at Abigail with teary eyes. "He’s still alive? Why did he come? Why did he come to meet me?" Her voice trembled.
Abigail frowned, surprised by Grandma’s reaction. ’Why does she still think James Philips already died?’
"Grandma, I’m sorry. I don’t know the answer you want to hear. But you can ask him when you meet him..."
Abigail smiled as she noticed Grandma’s eyelashes flutter, and the deep line on her forehead became apparent.
When Abigail saw that Grandma wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words, she continued, "Grandma, you know what? James Philips has many questions about you, but I didn’t reveal anything to him..."
Sophie didn’t understand what Abigail said. She was puzzled and confused to hear that James Philips was still alive.
’How could a dead person come back to life? Did I mishear the news?’ Sophie began to doubt the information she had received in the past.
’That old man is still alive? Seriously!?’ As these thoughts crossed her mind, Sophie suddenly felt a chill run through her and imagined what it would be like to meet him again.
Sitting across from Sophie, Sawyer noticed the distress in her gaze. He spoke up, saying, "Grandma, it seems there’s a misunderstanding between you and Grandpa Philips. I think it would be helpful for you to meet with him and discuss it to clarify things."
"Yes, Grandma, you really need to meet Grandpa Philips. This is the only way to find out the truth," Abigail agreed with Sawyer.
After briefly considering and calming herself slightly, Sophie finally nodded.
"You’re both right. I need to meet him now. Can you ask him to come in?" Sophie replied calmly, though her words trembled, revealing her nervousness.
Sawyer stood up and immediately left the room to meet James Philips outside.
While Abigail remained with her grandmother, she was concerned about her condition. When she held her hand, it was cold, like she was touching ice cubes—she must be under a lot of stress.
Looking into her grandmother’s eyes, Abigail was even more surprised to see her gaze seemed empty; she appeared lost in thought.
"Grandma, how are you feeling? Do you want me to accompany you to meet him?" Abigail asked worriedly.
Sophie lifted her head to meet Abigail’s gaze and smiled at the sight of her granddaughter’s concern.
"Abby, I’m okay; I’m just slightly confused about something. Don’t worry too much about me, honey..."
Abigail frowned. Was her grandmother agreeing to meet Grandpa Philips? Why did she seem so confused?
"Confused? About what?" Abigail asked.
Sophie sighed deeply before continuing, "Are you sure James Philips is still alive?" She would always doubt whether the man was James Philips, her fiancé in the past if she had not met him in person.
"Of course he is! I have met him in person a few times, Grandma," Abigail replied, even more puzzled by her grandmother’s question.
Sophie fell silent again, her heart racing as she considered the possibility that this man might genuinely be James.
She squeezed Abigail’s hand before asking, "Did you also see him when they took his sample for the DNA test?"
Abigail nodded. "Yes, I’m sure. He was present when the doctor came to collect our samples. Grandma, if you worry someone might fabricate the result, you don’t have to because Sawyer arranged the DNA test in his hospital."
"That’s good to hear," Sophie said, relieved slightly. But for some unknown reason, her doubt still lingered in her mind.
"There’s something I need to tell you, Grandma." Abigail paused to check her grandmother’s reaction. When she saw her eyebrows slightly arc, she confessed, "Actually, James Philips walked me down the aisle..."
"He did?" Sophie was surprised to hear that. She remembered not seeing any man resembling James Philips in the picture or video Sawyer sent her yesterday.
"Yes, he did. I’m sorry, Grandma, I didn’t ask your permission. I couldn’t refuse because Sawyer also agreed to it. At that time, our DNA test had already confirmed we were related. So..."
Abigail felt terrible because she hadn’t told Grandma about it.
"Abby, why do you look distressed?" Sophie smiled at her granddaughter. "I’m glad he was there to accompany you, dear. When I heard about Sawyer throwing a small party after your wedding, I felt sad for you because you didn’t have family there. But knowing he was there made me relieved and also happy."
"Gr-Grandma... you’re not mad at me?" Abigail asked.
"No, honey. Why would I be mad at you?" Sophie replied, gently tapping Abigail’s cheek with her hand. She smiled before continuing, "If the DNA test confirms that you are related to him, he is your grandpa, your family..."
Abigail felt relieved, but a thought crossed her mind. "Grandma, it seems Sawyer sent you a picture without Grandpa Philips. Is that why you didn’t recognize him?"
"Yes, I didn’t see him in the video or the picture," Sophie explained.
Abigail once had a strange thought when she heard her Grandma say that James Philips was already dead. She wondered if the man she had met was not her Grandma’s lover but perhaps a relative of James Philips. But she threw away her weird thoughts.
"Grandma, are you really ready to meet him alone?" Abigail asked again.
Sophie nodded. "I’m fine, honey. You don’t need to accompany me. It has been bothering me for a long time because I need to talk to him alone to clarify something."
"Ugh. I’m pretty sure you need to do it," Abigail giggled as a thought crossed her mind. "Grandma, you must miss him so much, and that’s why you want to meet him alone... Ouch!" Abigail glared at her Grandma.
Sophie chuckled, amused at how adorable her granddaughter was.
"Grandma, why did you pinch my nose?" Abigail asked while rubbing her nose.
"Stop talking nonsense, young lady. And stop sulking; it doesn’t look good on you." She laughed again before continuing, "My relationship with him is more complicated than you might think. I’ll explain later after I clarify a few things with him."
Abigail smiled and said, "Alright, Grandma. I’m going to step outside. If you need me, just shout my name."
Sophie smiled as she watched Abigail standing, but inside, she felt nervous.
