Chapter 219: Threat Lurks!
Sophie Lewis’s expression grew increasingly tense as she stared at the door.
Abigail feared that her grandmother’s physical well-being would be affected by her emotional distress. She stares at her for a few more seconds before saying:
"Grandma, please try to calm down. Don’t worry too much about Adam Snow’s threats. That man won’t be able to hurt you, and he certainly won’t hurt me. Also, I promise to make sure he doesn’t have that chance," She tries to ease her grandmother’s anxiety.
However, her efforts were in vain; Sophie still looked anxious and frightened. Her face, which usually lit up with joy when she saw Abigail, now appeared gloomy, and she seemed unconvinced by Abigail’s reassurances.
Sophie’s hands grew cold as she held Abigail’s tightly.
"Oh, dear Abby, when Adam Snow spoke to me earlier, he sounded furious. He even mentioned that he had sent some people here, ready to follow his orders to hurt me. And... to make it worse, that man even knows my room number."
Abigail couldn’t help but curse her father in her mind. She knew precisely that her father was aware her grandma stayed in this nursing home, but she had never told him the room number. She also remembered instructing Aunty Rosa to keep Grandma’s room number secret.
’Bloody hell, Adam Snow! Did you hack the nursing home’s database? No! Impossible, right?’
She doubted it, but then Ryland appeared in her mind.
’Hell no! Why did I forget about that man? It must be him! Only that scum could and would betray me. He must have told Vanessa about it.’
Abigail couldn’t help but vent her frustration in her heart. Regret filled her as she realized she should have asked Aunty Rosa to move her grandma to another room so no one would know where she was. freewebnoveℓ.com
As Abigail felt a bit better after mentally scolding Adam Snow, she smiled warmly at her grandma, trying to lessen her worries.
"Grandma, please forget about Adam Snow. He has nothing to do with us anymore. If you’re still worried about him, I promise to call him later and ask what he wants from me."
"Abby, are you sure you can handle him? He’s so horrible! Please don’t call him; I’m afraid you’ll waver under his words..." Sophie’s eyes looked red as she fought back tears, imagining how vicious Adam Snow had been in the past. That man always caused Abigail’s life to be anything but peaceful.
Sophie was deeply concerned that Adam Snow would harm her granddaughter, her only family. She knew Adam was capable of making Abigail’s life miserable; all he seemed to know was how to torture his daughter, never showing her any love.
"Yes, Grandma. There’s no need to worry about him. Besides..." Abigail narrowed her eyes at her grandma before continuing, "Have you forgotten I already have a husband to protect me from that man?"
Suddenly, Sophie gasped as she remembered Abigail’s husband, Sawyer Jones. How could she have forgotten about him!?
"A-Abby..." Sophie whispered, her gaze filled with apology.
"It looks like my grandma forgot about my wedding. You should be happy for me now, Grandma. Why dwell on that trash, Adam Snow? Can we stop talking about him?"
Abigail smiled, relieved, as she noticed her grandma’s expression beginning to change. She nodded in agreement, and her gloomy demeanor slowly faded, replaced by a happy smile.
"Oh, my dear Abby, forgive your forgetful grandma. How could I forget that you just got married?"
Tears welled in the corners of Sophie’s eyes as she pulled Abigail into her arms. She felt immense joy knowing her granddaughter now had a man to protect her.
"Congratulations, honey! Grandma is so happy for you. Yes, we don’t need to worry about your vicious father anymore; you now have Sawyer, who will take care of you from now on..." Sophie’s voice trembled, reflecting her overwhelming happiness.
"Thank you, Grandma..." Abigail began, but Sophie’s grip loosened before she could finish her thought. She sat up straight and looked at Abigail with confusion.
"Where is my grandson-in-law? He came with you, right?" Sophie asked, glancing toward the door.
"Yes, of course. He’s parking the car, Grandma. He’ll be here soon—" Abigail’s sentence was cut off as Sawyer appeared at the door.
"There’s your beloved grandson-in-law, Grandma." Abigail smiled widely when she saw her grandma, who was no longer as scared as before. Her eyes sparkled with joy when she saw Sawyer coming in with his hands full of shopping bags—he brought many gifts.
"Grandma, I’m sorry to make you wait," Sawyer greeted Sophie politely, his warm, spring-like smile emerging from his lips.
After putting the shopping bags on the table, Sawyer embraced Sophie before settling on the couch opposite her.
"Sawyer, Abby, thank you for visiting this old granny. I’m so happy you both decided to stop by when you were on your honeymoon," Sophie said genuinely.
"It happens because our honeymoon place is near this town, Grandma. It’s fine... No need to feel bad." Sawyer tried to lighten Sophie’s gloomy mood.
"Is that so? I’m glad to hear it..." Sophie smiled, although her smile didn’t reach her eyes. "But my grandson-in-law, you don’t have to bring me anything. It’s me. I’m the one who should be giving you a wedding present..." Her earlier cheerfulness faded, returning to a sense of gloom.
Sophie felt bitter, believing she had nothing left. After covering all her medical fees and the expenses for her late daughter, Amelia, she lost all her possessions. Now, she felt like a burden to her granddaughter, Abigail.
"Grandma, this is a gift from Abby and me for you. It’s not much—just a few multivitamins and your favorite food." Sawyer smiles at Sophie. When he noticed Sophie’s gloominess, he quickly added, "Your health and happiness are the biggest gifts you can give us, Grandma."
"What Sawyer said is true. If you’re healthy and happy, that’s the greatest gift I could ever want from you. Nothing could beat that." Abigail is trying to cheer her up.
Sophie remained silent for a second before smiling at them.
"And, Grandma, we actually have another gift for you..." Abigail appeared calm, but she felt extremely nervous inside. She was about to tell Grandma about Grandpa Philips.
