Chapter 181: Are They Friends?

Abigail felt her knees weaken in shock as she saw Sawyer standing there, directly looking at her.

’What!? Why is he here? Did Vincent tell him where I was meeting?’ Confusion washed over her, and she managed to smile while their eyes remained locked on each other.

"Sawyer, why did you come suddenly without calling me first? What’s wrong, my friend!?" Andy asked curiously.

He stood up from his seat, smiling as he approached Sawyer. However, Sawyer’s gaze was fixed solely on Abigail, and he completely ignored Andy, which shocked him.

’What the... Sawyer came not because of me but because of Abigail. Wait, do they know each other? How so?’

Andy felt his blood run cold as these thoughts raced through his mind. He saw Abigail looking at Sawyer with a gentle smile, enough to weaken his knees.

Andy Bennet was shocked, and he wasn’t alone. Abigail was taken aback when she heard Andy refer to Sawyer as "my friend."

’Oh my God! Andy Bennet called Sawyer my friend? Did they know each other?’ Abigail was astonished and dumbfounded at herself when she realized this. Her curious gaze remained locked on Sawyer. Her eyes silently hinted at him as if asking, "Sawyer, what brings you here?"

Nevertheless, as Abigail took in Sawyer’s presence, she felt warmth and became much more relaxed. Without consciously thinking about it, her feet moved closer to him, visibly in excitement.

"Sawyer, did Vincent tell you I’m here?" Abigail softly asked as he stood just a step away.

Instead of answering, Sawyer took Abigail’s hand and pulled her into his arms, surprising her. But she didn’t push him away; instead, she rested her head against his sturdy chest and wrapped her arms around his waist, feeling secure in his embrace.

"Are you done with your work?"

She heard Sawyer’s gentle voice above her head and looked up to meet his eyes. Nodding, she said, "Yes, I’m done and about to go home."

"Alright, we will go home together, Abby." A smile appeared on his lips. "But please wait for me outside for a moment. I need to talk to Andy—"

Only then did Abigail remember she was still in Andy Bennet’s office.

Instantly, Andy’s earlier confession flooded her mind, making her uncomfortable.

’Wait, they are friends, right?’ Abigail hurriedly released her hold on Sawyer. She turned to see Andy standing near the door.

Abigail remembered she had not answered Andy’s question about her fiancé’s identity. When she saw his expression as if half of his soul had left him, she felt a silent sympathy for him.

’Andy must be shocked to learn that my fiancé is someone he knows, his friend...’

However, she needed to respond to him. She wanted to put an end to his hopes of pursuing her.

"Andy," Abigail called to get his attention. She continued when he looked at her, "Earlier, you asked me who my fiancé is."

Andy was stunned to hear Abigail’s words. He wanted to refuse, but his mind betrayed him. He nodded in response.

"The man next to me, Sawyer Jones, is my fiancé. I am happy to know that you are friends with him..." Abigail said, glancing at Sawyer next to her.

Her smile widened as she felt his warm hand gently squeeze hers. Looking at his loving smile, she felt at ease after the tension and awkwardness she had experienced since Andy confessed his feelings to her.

"Sawyer, you can talk to him. I will wait outside," she said softly before walking toward the door.

But Abigail paused before she passed Andy, who was still frozen near the door.

"Andy, I didn’t know you were friends with Sawyer. If I had known, I would have told you about my relationship with him..." A genuine smile flashed across her lips before she added, "I’ll go now. If you need anything related to work, please don’t hesitate to contact me."

She couldn’t return his feelings, which might hurt his heart. Still, she also wanted to remain professional and continue their cooperation unless Andy canceled their contract.

"I will call you later, Abigail," he said.

She said nothing but nodded before continuing on her way.

Closing the door behind her, Abigail felt her heart tighten. She didn’t know if Sawyer was aware of Andy’s confession. Whatever the case, she couldn’t shake the worry that Sawyer and Andy might fight inside over this matter, and she didn’t want that.

’Should I go back in and make sure they talk with cool heads without resorting to physical or verbal violence?’ she wondered, glancing at the door.

She hesitated there for a few more seconds, torn between the urge to let them speak and the fear of potential conflict.

"Excuse me, Miss Abigail..." Amelia’s frail voice interrupted her thoughts.

Abigail turned to see a timid Amelia Walker standing beside Vincent. She looked curious and frowned as she noticed how relaxed Vincent appeared next to Amelia, as if he had known her for a long time.

Countless questions swirled in Abigail’s mind as she tried to figure out what had happened.

Before she could respond, Amelia awkwardly approached her and extended a handshake.

"Miss Abigail, pardon me, but I just heard from Vincent that you are engaged to Mr. Jones. Congratulations, Miss Abigail! If I had known earlier, I would have prepared an engagement gift for you," Amelia said timidly but still felt warm.

"Thank you, Amelia. You’re so kind. There’s no need to prepare anything; your words mean enough to me," Abigail replied with a smile. However, despite the expression on her face, her mind was still preoccupied with thoughts about what had occurred in Andy’s office.

"Miss Abigail, let’s wait for Boss Sawyer in the lounge..." Vincent’s usual lack of emotional tone pulled Abigail from her worries. She nodded at him and followed him to the seating area.

Vincent stood not far from her and didn’t seem inclined to sit. She called him to join her, but as she suspected, he refused.

She remained silent, trying to distract herself from her concerns about Sawyer and Andy. However, after a few moments, she couldn’t hold back her curiosity and asked, "Vincent, why didn’t you tell me that Sawyer knew Andy Bennet?"

"Miss Abigail, I’m sorry. I didn’t know your client was him. If I had known, I definitely would have told you."

Abigail stopped asking questions, her eyes fixed on the door, wondering what was happening inside Andy’s office.
