Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 180: Who Is Your Fiancé?
Chapter 180: Who Is Your Fiancé?
Andy smiled at her, trying to think positively about her rejection.
"Abigail, I know this is sudden for you, and maybe you’re afraid of my status. That’s why you’re rejecting me," his affectionate smile became more obvious before he continued. "You don’t have to answer me now; you can think about it—"
Abigail gripped her bag strap tightly. She immediately cut his words; she didn’t want to hear them.
"Andy, I already have a fiancé. I’m sorry, but I can’t accept your feelings," she said, standing from her seat and creating distance between them.
"Wait, wait, Abigail." Andy was shocked beyond words. He immediately followed her, standing up from his seat.
Although they were only three steps apart, it felt as if she were miles away.
The urge to walk closer and hold her hand filled his mind, but seeing the fright and confusion still lingering in her sharp gaze, he held himself back. He didn’t want to ruin their friendship and lose her forever.
Andy swallowed hard before continuing, "Abigail, just now, you said you already have a fiancé?"
He vividly remembered that her relationship with Ryland Wood had ended. But why was she admitting to having a fiancé? This question puzzled him.
"Yes, I have a fiancé," Abigail answered firmly.
His hands hung at his sides, clenched tightly into fists, as he processed her unwavering response. He hadn’t misunderstood her, but knowing this somehow made him feel disappointed and hurt.
"I’m sorry if my question sounds strange, Abigail, but I must clarify something. Did you get back together with Ryland Wood? I thought you both had already ended your relationship," he asked. It was still hard for him to believe that Abigail was now engaged.
Abigail took a deep breath after hearing Andy’s question. She had anticipated that he would think she had returned to Ryland. No one believed her when they heard that she had a new fiancé.
Even she found it hard to believe that she was engaged to Sawyer and that they would soon be getting married. She shook her head slightly. "No, I’m not back with him."
Andy was taken aback by her response.
"You’re not back together with him? Back as his fiance?" he asked, even more confused. "I’m sorry, Abigail. Did I hear you wrong? Earlier, you said you already had a fiancé!"
"Yes, I’m engaged," Abigail replied, showing him the diamond ring Sawyer had given her. When she saw him gasp but say nothing, she continued, "But my fiancé is not Ryland Wood; it’s someone else..."
Andy felt his head spinning after hearing her explanation. Instantly, countless questions flooded his mind:
"How could you move on so fast, Abigail? Who is the man who could heal your broken heart quicker than I could?" However, all those questions could only move as far as his throat, leaving him even more stressed.
Unable to say anything, Andy was too shocked to process her confession. He didn’t know how to respond, and bitterness slowly enveloped him. He could only stare at her.
Abigail felt terrible when she saw his shocked expression.
"Andy, I’m so sorry, but I must go now. If you need anything else related to our project, please contact me. I will assist you and set a meeting date."
She forced an awkward smile before shuffling away. But she suddenly paused when she heard Andy’s question.
"Abigail, please, just one more question. Who is the man that could heal and move your heart so quickly?" Andy clenched his fist tightly. He wouldn’t give up easily on her; he would keep pursuing her as long as she wasn’t married.
Caught off guard by his question, Abigail hesitated. She hadn’t planned to disclose anything to him, and besides, he might not know Sawyer Jones, right? Or did he?
"His name—" Abigail couldn’t finish her sentence when the door swung open abruptly. She turned to see Amelia Walker, Andy’s secretary, standing near the opened door, looking tense.
Amelia barely smiled at Abigail before quickly walking over to Andy.
"What is it, Amelia?" Andy asked, his voice filled with irritation at being interrupted while speaking privately with Abigail.
"Sir," Amelia leaned closer to him and whispered, "I just received a call from the staff downstairs. They informed me that Mr. Jones was on his way here. I’ve checked your schedule, and you don’t have any schedule to meet him."
Andy’s anger began to soften. He asked, "Did he call ahead?"
"No, sir. That’s why I wanted to inform you immediately," Amelia explained. She hadn’t wanted to enter the room but couldn’t avoid it since it involved Sawyer Jones.
"Why is he coming here all of a sudden? Did something happen?" Andy asked, concern evident in his voice.
"I’m not sure, sir. But I heard he looks mad!" Amelia replied. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Andy wasn’t concerned about Sawyer visiting without notice, even though it rarely happened. His main issue was that his conversation with Abigail had not yet finished. If their discussion remained unresolved, meeting her again would be difficult.
Furthermore, she had claimed to have a fiancé, and he needed to find out who the man was. He was determined to get rid of him before they had the chance to marry.
"Okay, you can go now. There’s no need to keep him waiting if he shows up," Andy ordered in a low voice, making sure only Amelia could hear him.
"Alright, sir," Amelia replied, nodding before turning to Abigail with a smile. She then left the room without saying another word.
Andy shifted his focus back to Abigail, noticing the lingering tension in her eyes. He ignored it and smiled gently at her.
"I’m sorry, Abigail. I won’t keep you here any longer. But before you go, could you tell me who your fiancé is? I’m just curious to know the man who healed the wounds in your heart so quickly," he asked politely.
"Andy, I’m not sure if you know him, but his name is—"
Before Abigail could finish her sentence, the door Amelia had just closed swung open again. She felt her knees weaken in shock as she saw Sawyer standing there, directly looking at her.
