Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 172: Be Honest To Her
Chapter 172: Be Honest To Her
Sawyer feared that talking about it immediately would only make her more upset.
He fell silent for a few seconds, then gently squeezed her hand, lifting his gaze to meet hers.
They locked eyes for a moment before he addressed her concern—he was worried that she might be angry or even throw a fit.
Abigail responded with a light chuckle.
"Huh!? What’s with the chuckle, dear?" Sawyer asked, slightly confused by her reaction.
"Geez, Mr. Sawyer Jones, do you think of me as a teenager with childish, unstable emotions? Please don’t. I trust you. I won’t get jealous or mad easily as long as you don’t betray me," she said sincerely. Her concern stemmed from her memories of her ex-fiancé, Ryland, who had betrayed her with her sister.
"Abby, I won’t..." Sawyer began.
Abigail’s smile slowly faded, and her expression grew serious as she continued, "I won’t give you a second chance if you ever betray me, Sawyer Jones! So please, make sure you don’t—"
Abigail’s voice was cut off when Sawyer kissed her. She felt his hand cradle her head, drawing her close as he deepened the kiss. The sudden kiss made her heart race. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back passionately.
When Abigail felt her heart about to explode from a lack of oxygen, she gently pushed him away, catching her breath while gazing into his eyes. Their faces inched closer together, so close they could almost feel each other’s warm breath.
The heat in the room rose slowly, causing Abigail’s face to flush with redness. She lowered her head, avoiding eye contact with him.
However, Sawyer held her chin and lifted her head to meet his gaze again. He looks at her beautiful gray eyes for a few more seconds before he speaks.
"I will never cheat on you, Abby," Sawyer said earnestly, his hand still on her cheek, rubbing it gently. He continued, "Please bury the thought of leaving me because that will never happen."
Abigail smiled, her eyes radiant with happiness at hearing his promise.
...
In Sawyer’s arms, Abigail tried to take a quality short nap. Still, she struggled to drift off despite being in bed for several minutes.
Her thoughts were too noisy, thinking about Serena Philips.
After stringing together a few words she wanted to ask, she opened her eyes and looked up at him. When she saw him close his eyes, she felt hesitant.
"Sawyer, are you asleep?" she whispered, unsure if he was already lost in slumber.
Sawyer opened his eyes, surprised to find her staring back at him.
"Why are you still awake?" he asked, gently smoothing her messy hair.
Abigail took a deep breath before responding, "I can’t sleep. I try, but I just can’t..." She couldn’t shake her curiosity about Serena Philips.
"Alright, there’s no need to hold it, Abby. Just ask me..." Sawyer smiled as if he knew what kept her from taking a good nap.
"Sawyer... so, Serena was your ex-girlfriend?" Abigail inquired, trying to sound casual. However, when she noticed his blue eyes slightly trembling, her heart began to race.
She wanted to learn more about his past, especially why he broke up with a beautiful, wealthy girl like Serena Philips.
"Yes, she is," Sawyer smiled at her before continuing. "Our grandfathers were best friends. She would come along every time her grandfather visited my grandfather’s house. Naturally, we became friends. Then, when I was in college, and she was still in high school, we started dating..."
Sawyer paused, deliberately wanting to see her reaction. He continued when he noticed her expression remained calm and content, with no signs of anger or jealousy.
"However, as she started to pursue her career in the entertainment industry, we began to have less time for each other. Less time to meet. It seemed she had forgotten her promise to avoid getting too busy with her career. After I graduated and she started college, I proposed, but she declined..."
Abigail was shocked to hear this. Even though it was part of his past, jealousy and sadness flashed through her mind. She felt jealousy because Serena had been in his life long before her, and she felt sorry for him because Serena had turned down his proposal.
"She didn’t explain anything when she refused, but she asked for more time to pursue her international career. I agreed to give her a year, but she never came back. Since then, we have drifted apart and lost communication. I let her go..."
Abigail was at a loss for words, unsure how to confront him.
"So, do you still have feelings for her?" she wanted to ask, but the fear of hearing a "yes" held her back. Instead, she said, "I see. So, since then, have you had any other girlfriends?"
She had heard from Martha that Sawyer had never dated, but she needed to hear it directly from him and look at his face as he said it.
"Hmm, never! Not even once! I feel like dating would be a waste of time. I don’t even have plans to get married because I believe having someone would only add a burden to my mind and shoulders."
Abigail now understood why his grandparents and parents were worried about him. He had a plan never to marry.
’Gosh!’
After a brief silence, both of them were lost in their thoughts. Sawyer broke the silence.
"But you know what, Abby? You completely changed me when I saw you on the rooftop that day. Before that moment, I just wanted to live alone, shut away from the world!"
Sawyer pulled her closer, resting his hand around her waist. They stared at each other for a while as if trying to express their love through their gaze.
"You are the only reason I fell in love again, Abby. If you hadn’t appeared on the rooftop that day, I might have died alone in my cabin—"
His voice trailed off when he noticed her eyes narrowing and her beautiful eyebrows slightly raised, clearly showing her annoyance.
