Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 171: Abby, Are You Mad?
Chapter 171: Abby, Are You Mad?
Five minutes after leaving the Jones’ house, Sawyer drives as usual, focusing on the road ahead. However, not a single word he speaks relates to what happened at his grandparents’ house.
Abigail wants to ask him several times but holds back her curiosity, knowing he seems reluctant to discuss Serena’s situation.
She decides to wait for him to start the conversation, not wanting him to perceive her as a shallow woman.
To distract herself from her curiosity, Abigail checks her cell phone. She is surprised to find five missed calls from Lana and several unknown numbers.
Abigail hadn’t heard any phone ring earlier because she had deliberately silenced her cell phone when she arrived at Sawyer’s grandparents’ house.
’What does she want? Why won’t she give up on contacting me?’ She silently sighs.
This isn’t the first time Lana has contacted her since the incident, but she has never picked up or read any of her messages.
Abigail feels she can’t talk to Lana because she still hurts every time she remembers that incident, especially when Lana turns her back on her for Kian when they meet at the police station.
For months, she avoided reading news about Kian on the Internet. She had no idea what had happened to that man. Has the case been processed in court, or is it still under investigation?
’Should I read what she wants? Why did she contact me again?’ Abigail wondered, puzzled.
After some quick thinking and calming her emotions to suppress her anger, she finally decided to open the text message from Lana.
"Abigail, I’m really sorry. I know I was wrong; I didn’t trust you. That evil man stupidly blinded me, and I couldn’t see through his wicked heart. I really hate myself! Please forgive me, Abigail."
Abigail smiled bitterly as she read Lana’s message.
’This is why you should have listened to me. If only you had a little trust in me, you wouldn’t feel this way, Lana!’
Somehow, Abigail genuinely feels sorry for Lana. She remembers how deeply in love Lana was with Kian and understands her feelings of betrayal and hurt.
She had experienced that same kind of betrayal herself when she thought Ryland was her perfect future husband, only to have him stab her in the back, cheating with her sister, Vanessa.
"I know you really hated me because I chose to trust that bastard Kian, but I want you to know that I transferred your salary and bonus. Thank you so much, Abigail, for helping me when I really needed someone."
Abigail raised her eyebrows slightly as she read Lana’s other text message. ’Why did she send me a bonus?’ she wondered.
She wasn’t bothered if Lana transferred her salary, but a bonus? She didn’t expect that at all.
Hurriedly, she checked her mobile banking app and was shocked that the bonus was twice her salary.
’Why did she transfer this much?’ Abigail was confused when she saw how much money was in her bank account.
As Abigail was about to reply to Lana’s message, another text came in.
"I know you read my text. Can we meet? Can we be friends again, Abigail? Please..."
Abigail felt her heart tighten as she read Lana’s last text.
’Be friends with Lana?’ The question filled her mind, trying to hurt her once again.
Starting a friendship with others was challenging for Abigail, who is an introvert by nature. Lana’s betrayal felt like a blow to her heart.
’Should I meet her?’ She felt puzzled.
Lost in her thoughts, Abigail didn’t notice that the car had stopped in the basement or that Sawyer was now staring at her with concern.
"Abby, are you alright? Is something bothering you?" His voice was soft, but the tension lingered in the air.
"No, nothing..." Abigail hastily replied, attempting to sound casual, but her stuttering betrayed her. "We have arrived! Let’s go—" She didn’t wait for Sawyer to open the door; she hurriedly stepped out and walked to the elevator, waiting for him.
A faint smile briefly appeared on her face when she saw Sawyer finally standing beside her as they entered the elevator.
"Abby, are you mad?" Sawyer asked.
Abigail was stunned by his worried question.
"Why did you assume I was mad? I’m not mad, alright! I just worried about telling you about Lana..." She wanted to say that but held back.
She still remembered how angry Sawyer was with Lana. A few times, he wanted to punish Lana by doing something to the Crimson Leaf Cafe. However, she stopped him.
She didn’t want anyone else to suffer if Sawyer closed the cafe, especially Erica and Tanya. Although her encounters with them had been brief, she could tell they were good people.
"You’re wrong, Sawyer. I’m not mad—" she said, smiling to reassure him.
Sawyer stretched out his hand to take hers, pulling her closer. He leaned closer to her and whispered, "I know you’re mad, my dear. Since we left my grandparent’s house, you gave me the cold shoulder and didn’t even ask me about Serena Philips..."
Abigail laughed inwardly at his concern. She no longer thought about Serena; instead, her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Lana.
Before Abigail could respond, the elevator door opened.
As she stepped out of the elevator, she headed toward the exit leading to the fourth floor of her rooftop house, walking ahead of Sawyer.
She couldn’t discuss the topic on the third floor because a few workers were renovating it.
When they arrived at her house, she looked at him and said, "Sawyer, let’s talk inside." She opened the door and walked toward the living room.
Once he settled beside her, she finally spilled out what was on her mind.
"Sawyer, I deliberately didn’t ask you earlier because I wanted you to explain what happened there yourself. But in the car, you completely shut down on that topic. I think you might not want to discuss it..."
Her response stunned Sawyer. He was already worried that she would feel jealous, so he avoided discussing the matter in the car and waited until they arrived at her place. He feared that talking about it immediately would only make her more upset.
