Chapter 305: Deep truth

Her father’s mention of so-called ’Treason’ made her absolutely furious. How dare he utter those words after everything the Eagle tribe had put their family through? They not only killed her brother but pushed her mother through insanity. The one that gave birth and loved her was nothing but a shell now.

"How can you say that, Father? How can you after seeing Mother in that condition?"

"Alice" Elder Edgar struggled to talk. The mere mention of his mate made his heart ache and throat constrict but he did that let that get in the way of saying what was right, "His majesty has nothing to do with the tragedy that happened to our family"

"Stop it" Alice covered her ears.

"Noel was his majesty’s close friend. He never hurt him anyway"

"He did" Alice argued as she yelled, "He hurt my brother by getting close to him. That stupid decision of his put my brother in danger until he was no more"

"Your brother was as responsible as his majesty" Edgar couldn’t help but say, "He was the one that approached his majesty and became his friend"

"And who made him do that?" A lone tear trickled down her eye. The secret she had buried in her heart came out like a flood, "You made brother go to Kyrell"

Elder Edgar stilled in his place. His entire demeanor shifted. He looked at his daughter as though she was an enemy, "Did Noel tell you that?"

Alice flinched. Receiving her father’s cold gaze had always been frightening for her. She with all her siblings always wished to gain approval from their father. They strived their hardest to meet his very high expectations. Her father wanted their family to be in a position where they could control others around them. Even mating with her mother had been done as a necessity rather than love. Yes, he grew fond of the latter as time passed as all males did but that was it. Even though he loved his mate, her father made sure to not let that seep into his children. He was always strict with them and wanted them to follow his every order. And one of that orders was for her brother, Noel to get close to Kyrell.

Kyrell...was the adopted son of the previous Eagle king who treated the former as more slave than a son. It was only for appearance’s sake as the King wanted the talented and unique golden-winged Eagle as his son in his arsenal. This investment of his proved to be fruitful when Kyrell harnessed his magic and became an immortal beastman. The Eagle King was full of joy knowing that he had such a powerful being to himself but the one that was even more happy was Alice’s father. She still didn’t know why but her father looked glad seeing Kyrell even now. He weirdly wanted Noel to become close to Kyrell which cost her brother’s life.

"You were adamant about having Kyrell by your side" Alice voiced out the thoughts she had been surpassing till then, "Brother wanted to prove himself to you by fulfilling your wish"

"And he failed in doing that," said Edgar as he got up from his seat. He looked at Alice with a calm gaze before adding, "He turned out to be useless. He pushed my mate into insanity with his stupidity. I only asked him to get close to Kyrell but exhibiting it to the whole world was his choice. He was a fool who failed to pretend and genuinely came to care about his target" His harsh words didn’t stop there and continued, "Your brother put himself in the previous king’s way by showcasing his absurd friendship with his majesty, Kyrell"

"Father how can you...?" before she could speak more her father cut her off by saying, "Everything that befell your brother and our family was his sake alone. His Majesty has no fault in it, so stop your whining and get yourself together. I have already announced you the Queen of Eagle tribe so act like one. Stop your petty revenge acts and try to become closer to his majesty"

Alice had a hard time breathing. Everything she was hearing made her head spin but she didn’t dare fall because that would make her appear weak. She didn’t want to show any weakness in front of her father.

"Seduce and lay with him, I want you to tie our family with his majesty" Her father kept on speaking which was more of an order to say the truth, "The child you breed with him will be the next king of our tribe....."

"I’d rather die," Alice said in a whisper stopping her father.

"What did you just say?" His voice was chilling and rigid.

Alice took a deep breath before parting her lips and repeated, "I said I’d rather die than do that. I will skin myself alive before I lay with that bastard, I will drown myself.....pak!" she couldn’t continue her words as her face turned to the side with a slap she received. Her hand shiveringly made its way to her left cheek which was getting swollen as time passed. She failed to comprehend what just happened to her. Her father had hit her. Eyes pooling with unshed tears, she glanced up at her father who looked calm as he always did but she did observe a small frown on his face which would have been negligible for someone else. But that was different for her, Alice had always seen her father calm and collected even in the moment of despair. He was way too level-headed to show his emotions openly. He made sure to keep his thoughts behind a mask of a serene smile which had fooled her mother all this time. Only Alice knew that her father was a monster.

However, the said monster never lifted his hand at her until now. He was not a beastman who used his brute force but was rather someone who worked with his mind. The reason for his sudden shift in character was simple. He was angry, so angry that made him lose his cool.

"Useless spoilt brat," Her father said in contempt, "You don’t know a thing. If it was not for me, you would have ended up dead by now. His Majesty would have ripped you into pieces if I didn’t use my power to keep him in the dark. Just like your disappointing brother, you keep on making bad choices that might in turn harm our family"

Alice scoffed as tears streamed down her cheek, "It’s funny really, you talk as though you care about our family"

"Don’t I?" Edgar questioned, "Unlike you a fool, I do care about my family. So stop putting all of us in danger and for once do the right thing"

"And what is right according to you?"

"Mate with his majesty" The reply was quick. It was as though he did not care about what she thought and wanted things to go his way.
