Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 304: The news
Chapter 304: The news
Alice was livid with fury. Here she was trying her best to make her plans work and this bug dared to stop it. She knew that everything she worked for would get completely destroyed if she made the slightest mistake. She was far too gone to stop right now. Taking Kyrell’s absence as an advantage, she took control of the Eagle tribe as their Queen. None in the tribe realized her faking being their King’s mate.
She went as far as using Kyrell’s used clothes and stayed in his chambers as much as she could to get his scent on her. This repulsive action had worked wonderfully when Lyra visited the Eagle tribe. The latter’s mate smelled Kyrell on Alice which sealed the fate of the great Eagle king.
That bitch Lyra will never come to believe Kyrell ever in the future. Her mates will not allow them to clear this misunderstanding. They wouldn’t want their mate to meet the one that betrayed her after all. Even if they two did meet somehow, Lyra would do everything to break Kyrell’s heart. Alice was sure of that. Females both loved and hated fiercely. And as a beast female herself, she knew her kind well. They had a pride that was too strong and if a male crosses it, then it was over for him.
That thought alone made her smile but soon she came out of it to reality. Right now, she was standing in front of the one who was trying to ruin her hard work. An Eagle guard that was personally appointed by the King’s aide. He seemed to have a great sense of loyalty, "I must kill you for this" but sadly that loyalty was not directed at her.
She glanced at one of her guards before parting her lips, "Kill him"
The hostage panicked, "Your majesty, please! Please don’t kill me, what wrong did I do? Your majesty!?" but his pleadings and yelling didn’t reach Alice’s ears as she ignored them while walking away from the cell.
"I want Nathan dead as well" She ordered as she quickly tried to walk out of the dungeon. It was filthy.
Her escorts were confused, "Your grace, but you priorly informed us to keep him alive no matter what"
"That was when I thought I could somehow use him. But Nate.....he is more dangerous alive than dead to me" Her steps touched the gleaming sunlight outside the dungeons as she added, "In other words, he can’t live in a world where I am" She would never be able to reach her goals if Nate stayed alive.
There was a reason she allowed him to stay in the dungeon till now rather than killing him off the moment Kyrell fell ill. Alice wanted to slowly persuade Nate to accept her as his Queen just as his tribesmen did. He was the Commander of the Royal army, the King’s aide, and overall was someone who held power in Kyrell’s court. It was truly sad that she could not use him. Alice knew little of Nathan but from what she heard, the latter sounded Loyal...too loyal for her own good. She wanted someone ambitious, someone who would seize the given opportunity even if it meant other people get hurt. This was the kind of Beastman Alice wanted Nathan to be but he seemed the opposite.
Even while being held captive, Nate had not once opened his mouth about Kyrell. He was adamant about not spilling any secrets regarding either his king or the Eagle tribe. And when he did open his mouth, it was to ask about the King’s condition.
It was a pity that a formidable beastman like him had to die like this but Alice had no other option than this. With everything decided, she returned to her quarters where very bad news reached her ears the next morning.
"What did you just say?" Alice asked through her gritted teeth as she stared down at the prison guards before her. Her head throbbed and her eyes turned red, "What the hell did you just say!?" Her scream reverberated across the council room. The matter she had just heard made her weak. She felt like she would collapse any moment now.
"We are sorry, Your Majesty" but even amidst her fury and frustration, the only consolation she received from the guards were words begging for mercy and excuses, "As you commanded we were always keeping our eyes on him but somehow....."
"But somehow he escaped" Alice stated, "That is it right? Commander Nathan escaped even though he was being guarded by not one, not two but a dozen of you!"
The guards flinched in their places as Alice continued to shout and break down, "Oh my god! Oh my god! What have done!? Believing these good-for-nothing fools I have dug my own grave. I should have been careful" She pushed all of the things on top of the stone table as she lamented, "What do I do!? What should I do!?" She knew. She knew that Kyrell would kill her the minute Nate decides to blabber about the things she had done in the former’s absence. Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes while she tried her best to hold them back. She could never imagine failing because failure meant her death. And the only death that should happen is Kyrell’s or Lyra’s. She could not fail after coming this far.
"Find him" That was the only solution she could come up with no matter how much she thought. She glared at the guards before saying, "Find him and bring him to me! Now!"
"Alice?" But amidst this chaos, she heard a familiar voice that made her turn. Her nerves significantly calmed down.
"Father" Elder Edgar stepped inside the council room as he took notice of the prison guards and his angry-looking daughter.
"Leave, all of you. I want to be alone with my father" Alice ordered and settled in her seat. The guards bowed before excusing themselves leaving the father and daughter duo the only remaining in the room.
Elder Edgar sighed. His heart ached to see his daughter so disheveled. Yes, she looked angry but more than that, she looked defeated.
"What’s wrong child?"
That query was answered far too quickly, "Nathan has disappeared. That bastard has escaped from my captivity!"
Her father frowned, "He is a Five-marked Beastman, Alice. How did you even think of keeping him confined? Did you really think some measly guards can control someone of his caliber"
"Enough with his praising" Alice dismissed her father but soon pleaded, "Tell me what I can do to escape from this situation, help your daughter for once, father"
Edgar replied, "It is with my help that you are still roaming around alive. I have kept other elders from meeting the King, announced their new Queen, and dismissed all of Kyrell’s close aides. What more should I do? Is this treason not enough?"
"Treason?" Alice smiled mockingly, "Where was this conscience when my brother died? When you decide to serve your son’s killer, have you never felt like you were betraying us!? Your own blood?"
