Chapter 303: Beginning of the tyranny

Kyrell’s eyes burned and the splitting headache he felt was sending him into agony. On the other hand, he was motionless and felt paralyzed as he tried to move his body. It was as though his own body refused to adhere to his commands. He didn’t like this feeling. He wanted to get up and flee to wherever he could rather than endure this. He wanted to be somewhere safe and secure. The terror he was experiencing right now was not new to him and that is what unnerved him. Whenever the late Eagle king took him to the witch masters to try and exploit his powers, Kyrell had felt the same suffering and misery.

At least then, he was able to scream his heart out which brought him some kind of comfort. But now....Now it was different, he was not even able to cry out or yell because his mouth was sealed shut. No matter how much he tried, he wasn’t able to move. This torment continued for so long that he became numb to it. Silent tears trickled down his eyes and all he could do was stare into an empty abyss.

"Hah.....ah....." The serene King’s quarters in the Eagle tribe went into chaos when Kyrell urgently raised from his bed and started gasping for air. His ruby eyes quivered as redness covered around them making his vision blurry. His throat hurt painfully as he kept on coughing and rubbing it to inhale as much air as he could.

The guards outside the door burst in when they heard their king’s painful and loud wheezing.

"Are you alright, your majesty!?" One of the guards quickly made his way to the king and handed him a stone cup of water after filling it with a pitcher by the bedside.

Kyrell hurriedly took the cup and gulped down the liquid while some spilled along his chin.

"What happened, Your grace?" Other guards asked when they saw Kyrell slightly relaxed and the answer they received was, "Nothing" Their king reclined back to the bed before adding, "Leave, I want to rest"

"Yes, Your Majesty" Although unsure, they responded appropriately before starting to leave the room.

"Wait" Their steps came to a halt hearing Kyrell, "I want my aid present in the throne room the next morning. Find Nathan, or you will face the consequences" he had enough of waiting around for things to fall into place. Everything was a mess. Those bastards refused to let him meet his love. She was his too! They had no right to do that. He could have forcefully made his way to her but that didn’t sound like a sane plan even though he was on the verge of losing his mind any minute now. An impulsive decision now would haunt him his entire life and Kyrell didn’t want to take any chances like that with Lyra.

However, his aid’s matter was another thing. Nate had been with him for the longest he could remember. The former was the one that pushed him to take the throne. He was a wonderful subordinate who made his overall life easier. At this moment when Kyrell felt like he was descending to madness, the only person other than Lyra that came to his mind that could reign him was Nathan. Most importantly, his aid told him things that others were afraid to do so.

Kyrell wanted that more than anything right now. He wanted his aid to stop him from taking any dangerous steps. There were signs of his bloodlust coming through, he could feel it. The only one powerful enough in his tribe to stop him from going haywire was Nate. The latter being Five marked, could at least withhold him when things turn to worse. Kyrell wasn’t sure what he could do once he lost control and that was the last thing he wanted now.

As their king mused in his thoughts, the guards that were dismissed got lost in their own and it was something worrying. They had exclusively received instructions from Queen Alice to not inform the king about Commander Nathan. The only thing they were informed of was that the commander committed treason against the crown and was being held captive until his judgment. Although it was the King’s duty to see to his people, the Queen thought otherwise. She didn’t want to worry her mate when he was bedridden. It was not weird for the queen to worry about her king. Everyone believed the same other than one of the guards.

The latter was selected by Commander Nate into the royal guards and he was forever grateful for it. Lord Nathan was someone who would risk his life to ensure their king’s safety and for him to commit a crime. It was not believable in the least or that was what his deduction was after having spent a long time with the commander. They were comrades who fought and trained together. He knew Nate well. All these days he had been torn between obeying the new queen and informing the king of his doubts but not anymore.

"The king must know" The other guards stopped hearing those words. They looked absolutely appalled and glanced at each other while the first guard added, "This isn’t right.....we are royal guards, we shouldn’t keep secrets from our liege"

"It is Queen’s orders. We can’t disobey it" Argued another guard. They were merely servants working for the royals and had no authority to cross them in any possible manner. For a beastman, his mate is everything and he would never disagree with her. Their King too would do the same. If they really try to blurt the truth out now, then there is no saying how angry the Queen would be. Then it will be only a matter of time before the King punishes them for offending the queen.

"It really isn’t worth it, brother" another guard tried to explain calmly, "We will lose no matter what so the best thing to keep ourselves safe is siding with the Queen. She will dispel the King’s anger anyway, they are mates. It is not right for us to participate in their matters"

The first guard was at a loss. He tried to talk his friends out of it but no one was ready to listen to him. At last, all he could do was let the matter go for now. He hoped everything would turn out alright....but something opposite to it occurred that evening which pushed him into unforeseen danger.

In an eerie basement located below the Eagle Palace, the guard was held in chains as a familiar figure stood in front of him.

"Was it you?" the guard struggled to glance up through the injuries he had received a moment ago. His face was bloodied with bruises and gashes everywhere. He was not even able to maintain his stand and fell to his knees as he heard the Queen say, "You wanted to tell Kyrell about Nathan? Even though I warned you not to do so?" then she sat on the chair behind her before folding her knee and said in a calm but chilling voice, "Well, you will be punished harshly for it. Get ready"freeweɓnøvel.com
