To His Hell and Back-Chapter 216: Puzzles That Fits-I
Chapter 216: Puzzles That Fits-I
’How could I ever be bored with you? I, for one, have never felt bored with your presence. If I have to say you’re similar to a tube of paint with color that continuously mesmerized me. I could hardly find staring at your face as boring even more about your presence.’
How could I be bored with you?
Mesmerized...
"You’re not bored with me?" Arabella who had found a moment to be truthful became straightforward with her question, turning to him with her eyes wide in shock, "You’re certain about that?"
"I am," he said back to her before frowning, "Why do you look so shocked? Have I ever said to you that I am bored with you?"
"But you... yesterday asked if..." I could leave the castle.
"Hm?" Cassius raised his eyebrows, "What did I ask?"
Seeing how he seemed truly at loss makes her wonder if the question he asked about her wanting to leave the castle was asked not because he wanted to shoo her away from his life for good and instead due to him being simply curious whether or not she wanted to leave his side.
Then what was all her worries for?!
Arabella glared at his red eyes, hoping to hit his head but she knew that she would only ended up in hurting herself.
"What about Isabelle?" Cassius asked and blinking, she stared at him.
Was he asking about someone else? For once in his entire life. Ever?
"What about her?" She asked him and for a moment he studied her face as if making sure that she wasn’t pretending not to know what he had asked and was truly at loss to his question.
Slowly he released his hands from her waist and shrugged, "I guess I worried for nothing."
"What?" She frowned as she saw how he had returned to his chamber and following him inside, she placed one hand on her hip, "What is it? What were you worried about? What did you want to know about Isabelle?"
"Oh you’re so noisy," he hushed her and pointed his hand at the wooden desk in front of the fireplace, "Do you want to continue questioning me and wasting our time or do you want to know whether we could find a thing or two about that bloodline of yours?"
She stared at the table and the spread of parchment, scrolls, and wooden tablets all over the table, spread as though someone had spent their entire day and night searching about sorcerers.
"What were you searching about?" she asked and he sighed as he pushed her shoulders and made her walk to the desk.
"Is it not so obvious to you yet?" He asked as he sat down, plopping on the chair before tossing one of the book to her and how it had been underlined with a black inked on things that were important and even a section of parchment written in such neat handwriting but so familiar as she knew this writings belong to Cassius himself. "About the kingdom and its history of course. Only by looking into Versailles when it was govern by the humans could we find out what exactly is living inside this land other than humans."
Arabella’s green eyes glimmered with interest as she sat beside him. Picking up the books to her hand, she could read the scribbles from Cassius noting down in points:
-Humans divided into two: Worshipper and non worshippers.
-Believe in God of life: Curses have been known throughout the history in Versailles. People who break curses are called Sorcerers. Those who curses are called: Witches.
-Sorcerers: seen as doctors at times.
-Witches: stronger than sorcerers, have no need for potions, uses magic they’re born with.
Possible hypothesis: Witches form a friendly contract with demons while sorcerers "borrows" demonic power. Witches’s power comes from demons as well but does get passed down to their descendants, different from sorcerers who has to continuously form contracts with demons?
*Perhaps witches’s powers could be passed to the new generation unlike sorcerers.*
What if the witches and sorcerers gets married, what kind of creature would be created?
"This is..." Arabella muttered as she held the paper and turned to Cassius who had shrugged his shoulders as though he had done nothing much.
She couldn’t help but find herself moved by seeing all the notes of summarize he had created, knowing well that Cassius must have stayed awake for nights to look for these informations and judging by the words he had to translate meant that not all books were so easily read as the humans have other languages that they don’t have.
"I looked into it," said Cassius as he crossed his legs and propped his chin on the arm that rested on his knees. "You wouldn’t have guessed just how hard all those humans were trying to erase the traces of witches and sorcerers to the point that they almost don’t exists at all. The books that I found wrote about them only about a sentence or two and for the other informations I had to dug up and read between the lines."
Arabella looked at the letters and couldn’t read some of the books as well, knowing well that they were written in a language that they couldn’t truly understand, not the usual language used in Versailles. But when her eyes stopped at the end of the book it was written Versailles which meant that there used to be another language used which hadn’t bee used anymore.
"This is amazing," she muttered, thinking the hard work which had been done by Cassius to find out about her, to help her.
Her smile slowly softened and the hands that were holding to the book slowly tighten, happiness filling heart.
"Thank you, Cassius," she turned to him, her eyes sincere as her heart, clear and pure, happy to thank him who had helped her. "Really," she whispered, "Thank you so much."
Cassius didn’t answer for a while but she could feel his eyes that stopped at her face as though studying the features he was already too familiar with.
"It’s nothing," he answered after a while, "It wasn’t too difficult either way." And he shrugged with his face turned away to the fireplace, making her to break into a smile.
Now she understood all those time he had been gone, he hadn’t only been busy with the matter of the castle as the Crown prince but to find out about her.
All this...
How couldn’t she feel moved by his action?
