Chapter 361: The storm is approaching

After their little punishment session, Abrielle’s legs were too tired from running continuously. Cedric, a caring husband, is offered to carry her.

The prince’s consort, with a silly grin, requested a piggyback ride. It was still raining, Cedric squatted before Abrielle for her to climb on. She quickly got on with a giggle escaping her lips.

It felt like her childhood fancies, the original Abrielle never had moments like this. She was a sickler as a child and spent most of her time indoors, while Hazel enjoyed a piggyback ride when she was still a child. The few memories she had of her father.

"You are really enjoying this," Cedric commented,

"Can’t a girl have a little fancy?" Abrielle chimed.

"Hold on tight," he said without any further warnings; a dark smoke engulfed them, and the environment changed. Abrielle was disoriented because it was the first time she had experienced teleportation.

Cedric wasn’t hiding his abilities from her and it saved them time. Once they got to the side entrance, they heard a bunch arguing like a bickering couple.

Abrielle was stunned to see Evelyn pinned against the wall with Elias looming over them.

Abrielle cleared her throat in the background followed by her teasing voice, "Are they meant to be doing that? It’s an open place." Abrielle asked Cedric, acting oblivious.

Evelyn and Elias’s attention was immediately grabbed. They moved away from each other to stare at the royal couple that just arrived. Cedric has Abrielle on his back. The princess hugging his shoulders obviously enjoying the piggyback ride.

Cedric had a bored expression different from Abrielle’s teasing look. "You need to get warm, you were out in the cold for too long." He replied, making the princess pout.

"You are really no fun," Abrielle grumbled, pulling Cedric’s ear; this single action left the troublesome pair stunned at how close the royal couple were. Cedric didn’t even seem bothered.

"Welcome back, your Highnesses; I already have a hot bath prepared. " Evelyn said, following behind Cedric as he stepped into the castle. Water kept dripping from their cold clothes, with Cedric’s shoes leaving a trail of wet footprints.

A group of maids that had been waiting immediately approached the royal couple with warm blankets. "Prepare some hot soup for lunch," Cedric instructed, and Evelyn immediately designated the task to someone.

"I will also organize some tea," Abrielle was already wrapped in thick blankets and Cedric intended to carry Abrielle to her chambers.

Elias immediately caught up with Cedric. "Sorry to mention this now, but there is urgent news from the capital that requires immediate attention." He stated and Cedric’s footsteps stopped.

Abrielle signed, "It’s fine, you can attend to it." She said understanding the situation.

"Will you be able to walk to your room?" He asked, she had a silly smile on her face and tried her best not to laugh.

"I will be fine, my legs are not numb from the cold."

He sighed reluctantly and let her down. "Take care," he muttered, then placed a quick kiss on her forehead before leaving with Elias.

"We should start leaving, Your Highness," Evelyn reminded Abrielle, who was still staring in the direction Cedric left. Handling a tender side of him felt truly weird.

"Oh yes," she muttered, then continued; her wet leather boots were making squishy sounds, making it tempting for the princess to pull off the boots.

"His highness has gotten closer to you." Evelyn casually mentioned, and Abrielle nodded. Ever since he confessed, it seemed like he was a different person, one she had no idea existed.

"It seems so," she mumbled, the maids were all over her. Some have run ahead to make sure everything is in place.

"By the way you and Elias seem to have an argument. It looked like you were in love," Abrielle teased; Evelyn tried to keep a straight face.

"It isn’t what you think. We got into a fight because he was making fun of my single status. I haven’t gotten married because nothing is more important than serving his highness. I am forever indebted to him." Evelyn explained.

"When you say it like that it feels like you have feelings for my husband," she teased.

"That is far from the truth." The maid immediately denied it.

They arrived at the room; Abrielle immediately got out of the soaked clothes and then had a large cup of hot tea before taking a hot bath.

She changed into a simple dress before heading for lunch. Her movement was graceful as she made her way to the dining table she shared with Cedric. Soft clicking heels, and sounds echoed through the halls.

The large door was pushed open, and Abrielle’s smile fell as soon as she saw the empty room.

Cedric did not join her for lunch and dinner; it wasn’t a big deal, or she was hoping to see him. Lies the princess made herself believe.

Evelyn later confirmed he was busy with some urgent duties, one that she did not mention to Abrielle, but the princess had an idea. If the plot still had any influence, a war was drawing near.

It was an event the female lead used to completely win over the people and where her relationship without Lucian got solidified. After the war, Lucian declared he wanted to wed Callista, which Cedric didn’t like, leading to a train of events that led to the story’s climax. She wondered how different things would be now.

Subtly sparks woke her from her slumber, her butterfly-like lashes fluttered open her eyes meeting his gold orbs that glowed in the dark

"Cedric," she muttered, surprised. He was seated by her bed, his fingers twirling her hair. "Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up. You looked very peaceful in your sleep."

Abrielle sat up, her brows furrowed. Cedric was calm and relaxed but she knew something was wrong. "Is anything wrong?" She asked him straight up.

The prince shook his head and then pulled his hand that was behind his back, presenting a gold rose. Its petals were glowing in the dim room. "This belongs to you alone." He said, tucking the rose that was meant to be eternal love in her hair.

"Why are you giving me this now? What did Elias say?" She held his hand, her gaze solely on him. Cedric smiled, then pulled her in for a gentle hug.

"There is no need to panic; we are just leaving earlier than planned once the girls are taken to their homes in a few days. Try to relax, being worried doesn’t look good on you." His voice was tender

Her nerves relaxed but it was obvious he was hiding things to protect her. This was the man who nursed her to health for 3 days despite everything she did.
