Chapter 327: Will to survive

An eerie laugh rang from the darkness a lone figure emerging. "I always knew you would be trouble, but never knew you would go this far Princess Abrielle." Penny snickered. They were barricaded.

Her eyes shone in a dangerous light. Abrielle’s hands clenched, she was going to fight to the end. "What is even more interesting is that the talentless daughter now possesses magic but that would not be a problem. Isn’t that right Heather?" Penny asked

"It would not," a familiar voice answered. Heather emerged from the darkness, a dangerous aura enveloping her. There was something different about Heather, "you were a spy." The princess blurted.

She had suspected a traitor to be amongst them but she never suspected that the death’s bite would have one of their witches undercover as a slave to monitor the girls. Heather was even the first one to propose their escape.

"So you were never a slave", Abrielle stated, and then Heather smirked at her. The princess was brave but also gullible.

Heather walked forward and flickered her fingers while trying to conjure a spell. "No, I was a slave, but after realizing escape was impossible, I made a deal with Penny. A year had passed and no one bought me more like I avoided it. The deal was simple: I spy on you and then get paid; once in a while, I am given a break when all the girls are sold or killed." Heather explained with a pleasant smile, her eyes falling on Camilla.

"I didn’t have to suck Jake like my life depends on it to go outside." She added, causing Camilla’s hands to clenched. Heather laughed and then glanced at Penny.

"The rest of the girls aren’t impressive the one you should watch out for is the princess. She might be stronger than even you." Heather warned Penny having witnessed Abrielle’s flames.

"I guess you were always right. I just never expected her to be the one." Camilla sneered; she had a crossed brow in her hand. Growing up she learnt how to hunt from her father just for fun since no one expected her to hunt. But she was still skilled.

"This is going to be an ick." Abrielle said.."God of the sun, lend me your strength even if it is dark ." Abrielle muttered with her eyes closed.

Camilla was by her side and could feel the air around the princess grow hotter each second. "Try to stay together I will burn as much as I can," Abrielle instructed

The other slaves were scared. They knew either way, this was death unless they could escape. Cecilia, the mage skilled in seals, started muttering an incantation to create a barrier around them.

After Abrielle was done with her silent prayer, her eyes opened, and flames suddenly spread around the forest, forcing the guards back. It was too strong for them to cross; the flames could only keep the guards away, but not the witches working with Penny.

Camilla released the first shot aimed at Heather who aimlessly avoided it. She was fast on her feet, expected from someone who practised witchcraft.

Abrielle knew there was a slim chance of winning. Witches were strong but weaker than sorcerers. Luckily, unless the plot was changed again, the death’s bite had nothing to do with the sorcerers causing chaos in Darconia.

Penny stood back and let the other witches go first. Camilla was engaged with Heather, she didn’t give her a chance to come close. The other girls did the same, trying to protect their spot, but that wasn’t their goal. They had to leave here before Abrielle’s flames got too hot.

Abrielle wasn’t athletic, so she had to send her fire spells forward with Abigail’s support, who was using rocks, pebbles and other debris around. She created something like a stone storm to keep the witches trapped in a tornado Abrielle set on fire.

Two witches down, the little girl didn’t have any combat experience but her sheer drive to escape was enough. Penny stood back, her fingers clenched as she watched how slaves were pushing them back

"I just have to get rid of one three ", Penny whispered, picking out the strongest: Cecilia’s barrier, Abrielle’s flames and Abigail’s telekinesis. Even more annoying, they had a healer.

They were never expecting these girls to be talented enough to pull this off. "After taking them out I will just wait for the rest to naturally tire out." She muttered

The battle got heated between Camilla and Heather. Heather finally found a way to break Camilla’s defence and pounced on her. Camilla used her crossbow as a barrier while Heather tried to use her disfigured claws as a result of touching forbidden magic.

"Why are you even struggling? You don’t have anywhere outside here." Heather scoffed at Camilla. She knew her story. Camilla tried to push Heather off and get back on her feet but Heather was too strong.

"Get off me," she spat, and luckily, assistance came. A strong blizzard pushed Heather off smashing her against a tree trunk. Camilla then quickly used her crossbow to shoot Heather in the right side of her chest. Witches could shift their hearts when in combat

A shrieking scream left Heather’s lips blood spewing from her lips. Her arrow has her pin to the trunk, and the earlier hit was directly to the heart. She died instantly.

Camilla sighed a breath of relief, then glanced at the girl that helped her. "Thank you."

Before Penny’s eyes, her witches kept on falling, and the soldiers could not cross the flames because they did not have any magic. Penny moved fast like the wind, her main element was air.

Abrielle was busy taking out another witch and didn’t see Penny. She thought the higher witch was not interested in interfering yet. Camilla saw it coming first. "Abrielle, watch out," she screamed out for the princess in a split second before she shot at Penny, but another witch took the hit to protect Penny.

The princess’s eyes darted around after hearing the warning, but by the time she saw Penny, it was too late; her feet froze. Then the most unimaginable thing happened, she was suddenly pushed away just seconds before Penny struck.

Her eyes went wide, confused; then she realized it was Abigail who dived to push her off. A scream rang, and Penny’s claws dug into Abigail’s stomach...
