The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 311: A dead end
Chapter 311: A dead end
"I did find something, but its importance depends on you," Aurora mentioned, leaving Cedric puzzled by what she meant.
The carriage rolled slowly down the road. The seaside castle wasn’t far from the crescent palace. Cedric was calm, he needed to assess what she had to say. "Just go straight to the point."
"Fine then, I did look further into the princess’s jewellery dealings and confirmed that the money she had saved up was withdrawn days before she went missing by Zoltana."
Aurora then went ahead to explain her findings. Abrielle was indeed planning her escape from Vitalis for a while since the winter but she wasn’t certain if she could easily waltz out of the plot.
But that changed when she had the quest notification.
"From my investigation, it seems like she wasn’t sure about whether to leave or not until the Fourth day of the rose duel. According to what I heard, Zoltana suddenly appeared at dusk for an emergency withdrawal where everything she had Saved up was withdrawn instantly. She mentioned it was an emergency.."
Aurora’s voice was soft and careful, she knew Cedric was currently a ticking time bomb and didn’t want to say anything that would make him lose it
"So she wasn’t certain about running away until the fourth day of the rose duel. That was the day the letter came in from the palace." Cedric mentioned, so it was Eleanor that made her panic. Why did she have to take such an outrageous step without talking to him first?
Cedric’s mind trailed, remembering how strained their already bad relationship got after he returned from Vesper. All this started due to the letter that miraculously got to Callista instead of Abrielle.
Was she insecure that he loved Callista? He wasn’t a saint in this either. There were times when his actions were out of place like he was forced to act without thinking. His actions must have been misleading.
"Yes, I suspect the queen’s allegations were the catalyst plus the rumours. She was being suffocated, the miscarriage and all. I suspect her mental health was declining and she felt alone..." Aurora kept on talking, trailing away from the main topic.
"I asked about your investigation reports and not a therapy session to tell me what was wrong with my marriage." Cedric’s tone was almost sharp, causing Aurora to seal his lips. She almost forgot who she was talking to.
"Sorry, I spoke out of line. I would love to continue my report." She apologised, but getting no response from Cedric, she went ahead.
"Zoltana was spotted on entertainment street close to where the fortune teller Sabrina’s pub is that same night. It is safe to assume that she gave the money to Sabrina. I dug in further about Sabrina and found out she is dealing with a small mercenary group that runs shady deals."
Cedric sighed, so Abrielle did plan everything. Was getting close to Alfonso part of her plan? His eyes darkened. He was making excuses for her again.
"Did you look into the mercenary group?" Cedric asked; he was desperately clingy up to a faint hope that maybe, just maybe, she didn’t go through with the plan.
"Yes, I did, but their office was empty, all records wiped off. It’s like they ran away from Vitalis. I am still trying to get information from them but what I don’t get is why they ran away. There is no need to run if what they did was a false kidnapping. Just my opinion."
"So we are back to square one with no idea where she might be or how far she is except from the fact that my wife might have eloped because I am the worst husband that ever existed." Cedric laughed at the ending at how ridiculous it sounded to him.
"That’s why I said it depends on how you see the information." She added then the carriage went silent. Her eyes trailed to the road, watching them ride past the green trees.
They soon approached a carriage that seemed to be waiting. "I guess I have gotten to my stop," Aurora mentioned as the carriage slowly came to a stop.
She glances at the masked prince before she steps down. "Good luck finding her." She said then got off. A maid was waiting for her outside, who covered her from the harsh sun rays with a shaw until she got into her carriage.
As soon as the carriages started to move, Cedric urged his coachman to also move, and they went their separate ways at a crossroads. Aurora took a route that led to the bridge while Cedric continued moving further towards the coast of the island where his castle was located.
His mind was trying to process what Aurora said; he was indeed the villain. Wasn’t he? A sigh left his lips; it was hopeless. He has searched every nook and cranny of Vitalis. He has men searching outside the capital too. There was nothing.
His head was against the chair, with his eyes closed as he tried to rest a bit before he lost himself. His brows furrowed, his senses picking up on something off.
Cedric sat up his eyes searching through the window for something he wasn’t sure of. His vigilance heightened. Was someone trying to assassinate him again? Don’t they ever learn?
Among the leaves of the trees, he spotted a fleeting dark figure. His eyes went wide. He knocked on the window close to the coachman in front. "Stop the carriage." He instructed. It was a sudden order, but the coachman obeyed slowly down.
Elias and other knights trailing behind on horseback were confused as to why the carriage stopped. Cedric didn’t explain a thing, he got out of the carriage and sprinted for the woods.
The knights were taken aback, worried that the prince had finally lost it. It was a bizarre scene. Elias groaned, "Follow him." He instructed turning his horses into the woods.
Cedric ran into the woods following the figure that kept on running into the forest. He was fast but Cedric could catch up. The knights soon lost track of Cedric, more like they never found him, as soon as he got into the forest.
Far from the road, close to the stream. Cedric spotted the figure he had been chasing. "I wasn’t expecting you to catch up so quickly. You are faster than I imagined."
