The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 287: Communication barrier
Chapter 287: Communication barrier
Her hands gripped the edge of her long sleeves, he was back. It has been days since the last they spoke although she saw him yesterday. She felt nervous, guilty and drained.
Maybe she could have just said everything was a misunderstanding, but those words were stuck in her throat. It didn’t seem that easy.
She slowly turned around and her eyes fell on him. He was still standing at the entrance dressed rather dignified like a prince. A black mask on his face, which had intricate gold lines that matched his dark-themed clothes of a similar colour scheme. He truly took his job as a villain seriously.
That was a funny way to think about it, "I guess we are still doing the staring game, or you are still offended I beat out your lover from the duel." Cedric sneered, unable to stand the silence. A weak smile grew on her face, she almost forgot he was a jerk.
"Congratulations on winning the duel." Abrielle congratulated him first. Her expression was still serene.
"That’s not unexpected," Cedric commented, Abrielle had no idea what he meant. "I don’t understand your sentiment; it is my duty to congratulate my husband, who has been away for days fighting hard. I am glad you finished the duel without a single scratch."
Cedric laughed. At this point, she was sure something was wrong with his head. His gaze went back to her, the biggest puzzle ever. He was shocked she seemed not to remember a thing from last night’s episode.
"You truly don’t care about anything that happened these past few days or have any explanation whatsoever. I just need an explanation, even if it is a lie. Tell me an excuse, Abrielle." Cedric demanded leaving Abrielle speechless. She went silent, her eyes averting from Cedric. She had a lot of things she could not speak about.
"I already told you the truth. There is nothing to be worried about. Looks might be deceptive." It was not far from the truth but Cedric needed something more reliable.
Cedric’s eyes twitched as he walked closer to her; her heartbeat slowed down the closer he got until he was a few steps away from her. Oddly, he was being patient today, but at this point, Abrielle didn’t care about resolving the misunderstanding. She could say this was of advantage to her. "That is it. Why is it so hard to stay away from him after everything I said ?"
She sat up straight, a challenging smile curled up her lips. "You should understand me the best. In the same way, you can’t stay away from Callista, I find myself in a similar situation. Honestly, I see no point in this conversation. I am not questioning you about the rose you gave Callista. "
Abrielle knew bringing up Callista might be a forbidden topic, but it still didn’t matter. She had to keep the deal with Alfonso, and sadly, to do that, she had to piss Cedric off but not far enough for him to kill her.
Cedric didn’t respond so she continued. "I understand our marriage isn’t one of love, Cedric, and I will never ask more than what I deserve or what you can offer. "
Cedric understood what she was trying to do. She always does this; every time, she always brings in Callista as a shield. He was the one who made that possible in the first place. She wasn’t going to admit her feelings for Alfonso if there were any.
She was smart not to do that in front of him because he truly didn’t want to think about what he might do when she destroyed his last doubt.
"Fine," Cedric stated, Abrielle was stunned. "Fine?" She repeated. It seemed like she was missing something
"I guess I will have to wait till the day you come clean. It is not like it matters because we are still stuck in this marriage," Cedric added.
"I have already told the truth, I have nothing to hide," Abrielle argued. That was the craziest thing Cedric had heard from her. He knew about a lot of skeletons she hid in her closet, yet he kept this dangerous being closer than most.
"How believable that is." He stated, his eyes watching her. He noticed she had gotten paler these last few days. Ignoring everything he was worried wondering what was going through her mind, especially after what Lucian told him
Eleanor has indeed summoned her to court. That letter should not have gotten to her. Unfortunately, Abrielle was at the entrance when the messenger arrived. He was hoping maybe she would mention it; that was just hopeful thinking. She always kept things to herself.
"That aside, I came to inform you I won’t be accompanying you to the lantern festival," Cedric said; this would normally have made her disheartened, but it was oddly convenient the odds were finally in her favour.
Still, she held back her excitement, her eyes dulled. "Why?" She asked, acting disheartened.
"It is unavoidable but I have to accompany Callista. It is something very important." Cedric explained he could not reveal much. Abrielle had a sad smile, that wasn’t too unexpected. She slowly nodded.
"I guess it is an official matter. I’d rather not cause you any inconvenience."
That was it she didn’t throw a fit. She truly didn’t care. It stung a bit but this was his cross to carry Cedric sadly thought.
"See you later then," he answered, then turned to leave. She didn’t stop him. She didn’t even question him on who he might give the golden rose to.
This way, she had an excuse for why she might show up with Alfonso at the festival. The door closed behind Cedric waiting at the entrance was none other than Elias.
"Don’t let her leave your sight the entire night," Cedric instructed Elias.
"Do you suspect she will attend with Alfonso?" Elias asked, Cedric smiled. He continued walking down the halls with Elias trailing behind him.
"It is not about Alfonso, Callista has Intel about something big going down tonight. I would prefer it if Abrielle stayed at the castle, but that would be hard considering her personality. If she goes out, watch her,I might be too swamped during the festival."
