Chapter 70: Chapter 70- He Will What?

Just based on how Mar-Dule described the different arenas, Sol speculated that there was some significance when someone manages to enter them.

Mar-Dule nodded and said.

"Even though the Mortal Arena and the Earth don’t give someone cultivation resources, just being able to enter them means that you’re extremely talented. Along with fame one’s importance to their Pavilion would increase so more opportunities to gain resources might open. As for the Sky and Heaven Arena, the academy personally hands them a monthly quota of resources. I don’t personally know the number of resources they are given, but I heard the only reason why the Six Holy Sects and the Five Great Clans haven’t relinquished the seats was because of the resources. And to make even those powerful behemoths hungry for it, then it must be a lot."

Sol listened to Mar-Dule and thought for a moment.

He wasn’t someone to be greedy. After all his Father said being greedy would only lead to a life where nothing is ever enough for him, and that type of greed would only end in disaster.

What Sol truly wanted those resources for was his cultivation.

As of now, he was finding it hard to open his acupoints, but even after that where would he get the resources from to continue his cultivation?

He couldn’t rely on his Master or Uncle Master’s assistance. And he couldn’t rely on being able to concoct the medicinal pills himself. That would take time.

So Sol needed to ensure his growth doesn’t stagnant at any point.

And the only way to do that is to obtain a lot of resources.

’Looks like I need to get a position in the Heaven Arena. I wonder how long that would take?’

Meanwhile, Sol was in his thoughts, Mar-Dule realized something was wrong with some of the disciples in the surroundings.

They were whispering to themselves while looking at their group.

If they were looking at him Mar-Dule wouldn’t find it out of the ordinary, but he traced their gazes and they were instead looking at Sol.

Mar-Dule was confused.

’Is this about brother Sol breaking our Barbarian Race’s Legacy Monument? The news is quite shocking, but it should only spread among our Barbarian Race, these outsiders don’t know the significance of breaking it. If it’s not that then why are they staring at Brother Sol?’

As Mar-Dule thought this he tried to overhear what they were whispering, but the noise in the Martial Hall was too loud. He could only make out the words ’Heavenly Staircase’ and ’Headmaster’s fighting’.

’What about the Heavenly Staircase? And what about the Headmasters fighting?’

Mar-Dule was even more confused.

"Brother Mar-Dule, how do I join the Martial Hall?"

Sol suddenly spoke and snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Huh? Oh, all you have to do is use your Disciple Token and register to join. After a while, a match will be arranged for you where if you win you can enter the Mortal Arena."

"What happens after I enter the Mortal Arena? Can I directly fight someone in the top ten and then qualify to fight someone in the Earth Arena?"

Mar-Dule shook his head.

"Unfortunately, you can only fight those ten ranks above you."

Hearing that Sol was slightly dejected, however, Mar-Dule added.

"But if the opponent you first fight to enter the Mortal Arena happens to be someone in the top five hundred or top three hundred, then you will have fewer matches to fight to reach the top ten. Though the Martial Hall usually schedules people at the bottom of the Mortal Rankings to fight newcomers."

’So I have to hope someone higher up in the rankings is chosen as my qualifying match?’

Sol wanted to quickly pass through the lower arenas and at least reach the Sky Arena, but it looks like it won’t be so easy to climb the ranks in a short period of time.

Sol sighed before he took out his Disciple Token and fiddle with it.

Mar-Dule helped Sol register for the Martial Hall, and all they had to do now was wait for a match to be scheduled.

However, when Sol heard that a newbie match might take several days or even several weeks, he was dumbfounded.

"Brother Sol, don’t be surprised. After all the number of disciples in the academy that wants to join the Martial Hall number in the tens of thousands. And this is just for the first-year to third-year disciples. Luckily, the academy separates the disciples below the third-years from those above."

Sol hearing this came to realize he didn’t really know about the different year students. So he asked Mar-Dule about it.

After scolding Sol that he should have read this long ago, Mar-Dule explained that the academy has a separate section for the fourth-year disciples and above.

"And brother Sol, you should know the academy has a requirement for who can become fourth-year students. And those are people who have unlocked their Mortal Palaces and entered the Spiritual Realm."

"Then what happens if someone reaches seventeen and hasn’t entered the Spiritual Realm?"

"Then they get kicked out."

"Really?! The academy would kick their disciples out?"

"Why are you so shocked? This is a well-known rule that many people fall prey to, that’s why there are Fallen Geniuses in the other Sects. Some were unable to enter the academy, but some entered and were then kicked out. This is the academy’s way to get rid of the weeds and make the garden flourish."

Sol was still taken aback by this, and though he didn’t know how talented he was compared to people like Yoon-Jae, Mar-Dule, or those disciples in the Heaven Arena, he was self-confident he wasn’t lacking compared to them.

So he wasn’t worried about being kicked out, just that the academy really prioritized talented disciples and nothing else.

Seeing that Sol was still upset, Mar-Dule said solemnly.

"Brother Sol, you should really get used to the academy being like this. You should know, 2/3 of the people in here right now probably won’t be able to become fourth-year disciples."

Sol frowned.

"But is this something to get used to? Throwing away people who don’t fit your standards? If they can do this to their own disciples then what about those who aren’t? Those in the outside world? If something like a war were to break out wouldn’t they only prioritize their talented disciples while leaving everyone else to die?"

Mar-Dule hearing this had his pupils shrink.

"I... I never thought of it like that before."

Mar-Dule knew which war Sol was talking about, and he couldn’t help but contemplate his words.

After coming here, Mar-Dule had never thought twice about the structure of Jinghua or the underlying principles they were teaching their younger generation.

And that was bad since he was the future leader of the Barbarian tribes, a future leader of an entire Race.

Shouldn’t he understand things like this?

Mar-Dule couldn’t help but glance at Sol.

’He has a clear and unbiased view since this is his first time entering the cultivation world. I hope he continues to have such a view and not have it get clouded. Perhaps he will...’

Mar-Dule suddenly paused, his thoughts just now confused him a bit.

He will what?

What was he thinking Sol would do?
