Chapter 81: Intense Affection

No, Arren immediately rejected that thought. Of course, more than anything else, his heart was filled with warmth knowing that Spade was there to always be with him when he was unconscious.

However, now that that was the case, Arren suddenly became a bit scared to face the alpha. For some reason, even if he didn’t want to, he always made the people around him concerned about him. What happened this time was even more serious and needed more attention.

The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with his condition aside from signs of trauma in his brain activity; even Arren himself could only make conjectures that what happened had something to do with his dream and that shadow. As for their meaning? He didn’t know for sure.

It only took a moment, and his father finished contacting Spade; he didn’t listen to the conversation as he was bracing himself to face Spade later.

After that, his father finally called the doctor over to examine him. It was something that needed to be done, even if his condition was hard to detect.

While waiting for the doctor, he asked and talked with his father about something he was also curious about.

"Dad, what happened at the banquet?" Arren asked. He was certain that he caused a big commotion at the banquet, but he still wanted to know the extent of this fuss he created after passing out in the middle of the banquet.

Seriously, did he have some kind of jinx on banquets? The first time he truly wanted to attend, something like this happened.

His father knew what he was concerned about.

"Don’t worry, son, the banquet proceeded and wasn’t interrupted by what happened to you. Although some of the nobles that attended saw you fainting and being carried by His Majesty outside of the hall, no one actually knew what happened, and the matter is mostly still kept under wraps to the public," The Duke answered, but it wasn’t the whole truth either.

The Duke only knew that the banquet would proceed because it needed to; as for what truly happened inside the banquet hall, that wasn’t something he was aware of. The Duke was already on his way to the hospital, and he completely threw the matter of the banquet to the back of his mind.

However, because of what happened, the relationship between Arren and Spade was more or less revealed. At least to those old foxes, it was already clear. It was even more so that Spade had made Arren’s hospital room his temporary office and would only occasionally return to the palace if there was anything urgent and all the meetings were canceled.

Since he already confirmed that he didn’t inconvenience everyone that much, Arren could finally sigh in relief. They couldn’t talk for long as the doctor finally came. It was rather quick, as Arren was the patient with the highest priority in the first place.

Arren raised his gaze and knitted his brows slightly. There were three doctors who came. He didn’t know if the other two were there to make up the numbers or something. However, that would not be professional either.

He looked at his father with a questioning gaze. Three doctors to examine his condition after he wakes up? That was a bit too much! But his father only nodded at him as if to say that the number of doctors was right.

Seriously? Arren could only powerlessly sit there while the three doctors inspected and examined his vitals and even asked him about things. So, he only found out that the three actually specialized in three different fields. He only noticed, though, that some of their questions were only subtle and never delved deeper, but it was easy to discern.

They were investigating his trigger. Actually, the question even sounded insignificant, and if only Arren wasn’t paying attention, he couldn’t notice either. These doctors appeared to still be inclined to believe that what happened to him was the manifestation of serious trauma.

Overall, it was a thorough examination. They even appeared to be taking it too seriously, as if their lives were on the line if they made the slightest mistake. Arren could only smile wryly and cooperate with them. He was aware of who these doctors were afraid of.

While they were still in the middle of the in-depth examination with the doctors. The hospital room door abruptly opened; it appeared that the person who opened it was in a hurry to enter the room based on the manner in which it was opened.

They immediately stopped because of this, and all of them looked at the newcomer. However, Arren’s heart already pounded, and he had a hunch about who it was even without looking.

It was also quite obvious who had the guts to open the door of Arren’s hospital room like that, knowing it was a room where the Emperor’s lover was admitted to, if not Spade himself.

Sure enough, as Arren lifted his head and looked in the direction of the door, his eyes instantly met Spade’s amber eyes. The alpha obviously only had his eyes fixed on him. He stood at the mere entrance of the floor and stared intently at Arren, as if, if he even moved a bit, the dream would shatter.

Looking at Spade in the eyes of ordinary people, his appearance didn’t seem to differ much from how he usually was. However, looking at him more closely, one could immediately notice that Spade’s aura lacked the same dominance he usually held as he stood at that door.

There was only one thing more visible in his expression other than anxiety: longing.

Arren bit his lips, and as he was still weak at the moment, he couldn’t run there and hug his alpha to assure him that he was okay. Even the guilt he was feeling was overwhelmed by his desire to comfort Spade.

"Spade," Arren uttered and called the alpha’s name. His voice was lower than usual but louder than when he was talking with his father and the doctors because that was the loudest voice he could muster.

Since he couldn’t run to Spade, he would just call for the alpha to approach him.

And his voice calling for Spade was the last straw; the next thing was that the alpha already strode through the hospital bed, ignoring everyone in the room as if Arren were only in his eyes at the moment, and engulfed him in a warm embrace.

It was tight but not so much that Arren couldn’t breathe either; he was even afraid to exert too much force. However, it was enough. He was still weak, so he couldn’t respond to the hug. Arren only let himself be buried in the alpha’s arms, taking all his heat to reassure them both.

Spade’s pheromones enveloped Arren, giving him a more comfortable sense of security, and in return, his pheromones also intertwined with Spade’s. The alpha was taking and sniffing his scent and pheromones to calm himself, and Arren was also doing the same.

It was like they began scenting each other for more assurance, a perfect way to quench their longing for each other temporarily. Actually, it was only to Spade, and Arren was letting the alpha be assured that he was fine and he was awake.

At that moment, they only seemed to have the two of them in their own world.
