The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 75: Banquet (2)
Chapter 75: Banquet (2)
He glowered slightly but didn’t make things difficult for Ramon. Arren leaned on his seat and folded his arms in front of him. His intimidating phoenix eyes stared ahead of him. The banquet hall was beginning to be crowded, and some of the influential nobles from different factions arrived.
Arren roamed his eyes around, but he still hadn’t seen his father and the old nobles; at this moment, the younger generation was the only one filling up the hall. However, they also had their own group based on status and the faction they were in.
He sneered in his heart; this was also one of the things he hated about these kinds of events. Socializing with others was required, especially for the slightly lower-status nobles to curry the favor of those nobles with higher status than themselves. As a son of the Duke and even from a royal faction, it was fortunate that Arren could skip this part entirely.
After roaming his eyes around for a bit, he happened to land his gaze on Ramon, who was bored watching the others as well. Both of them were in the royal faction and didn’t bother with status at all. They looked lonely at a glance, but that wasn’t because no one wanted to talk to them; their status alone was already a deterrent to others.
"Ah, right, Arren." After a while, Ramon called out to him.
"What is it?" He glanced at the beta, and they locked gazes.
"I only noticed just now, but there is an even more major difference about you tonight," Ramon pointed out, even knitting his brows to look seriously at Arren.
"What is it this time?" He arched his brow and was almost tired of Ramon’s antics; he had been saying something different to him since earlier, and not even this was major.
"No, I’m serious. It’s like you are more comfortable in this party, and you don’t look distracted at all." revealing his thoughts and staring intently at Arren as if this was something really surprising that needed more attention.
The realization then dawned on Arren; he shrugged his shoulders as though he really didn’t care about it. As Ramon said, he was quite comfortable this time, and he wasn’t thinking of leaving the banquet early like the past few times. There was no need for that.
As he thought of what was different this time, unknowingly, a smile appeared on Arren’s lips, indicating his good mood. Ramon was dazzled for a moment, and he was almost sure those Arren admirers at the side were all enchanted at this moment.
Ramon couldn’t help but let out a dry cough to capture Arren’s attention, or more like, wake him up from his reverie, whatever that was.
"I’ve changed, Ramon. There’s nothing wrong with being comfortable in the banquet, right?" Arren nonchalantly reasoned and dismissed any thoughts from the beta.
What he said was true; however, Ramon couldn’t help but think that there was something wrong with his statement, but he didn’t know how to refute Arren either.
"Stop thinking too much; it’s not good for your health." Arren counseled Ramon, but his words came across as an insult. The beta opened his mouth to defend himself, but looking at the omega, for his own good, he chose to shut his mouth.
Arren was satisfied that the beta still valued his life.
It was almost time for the official banquet to start, and it was already becoming lively inside. and as he lifted his gaze to look at the entrance, his father had also arrived at the banquet hall with Duke Ellis’ family.
He contemplated whether to greet his father; however, Arren also thought of the possibility that once he approached his dad, there was no way he could return to this table anymore and he would be dragged to greet more nobles by his father.
Arren knew that what he thought wasn’t far-fetched at all, so he glued himself to his seat. He might not be tense in this banquet anymore; however, greeting those nobles was too troublesome for him. He still wanted to keep a low profile, at least.
After a few moments, he lowered his head slightly as if he couldn’t see that his father was looking in his direction after roaming his eyes around and landing in Arren’s location. His blue hair was too eye-catching to be mistaken.
"What are you doing?" Ramon asked, bewildered, what was up to him again? The beta already held a glass of wine in his right hand.
"Nothing, I’m making myself invisible as much as possible," Arren mumbled as an answer. This response couldn’t make any sense for the beta at all, and as Arren said, thinking was bad for his health, so he left it at that and sipped on his wine silently.
Fortunately, the Duke didn’t approach Arren, and he could finally sigh in relief as the main characters of this banquet finally arrived.
"His Majesty the Emperor and His Majesty the Mother Empress have arrived!" A loud voice resounded at the entrance, overpowering all the voices inside the hall and announcing the arrival of the most powerful person in the empire.
In an instant, no matter who they were, they stood respectfully and bowed slightly in the direction of the entrance. The hall became silent, and only the footsteps of the two people that entered could be heard.
Arren was also looking at the center of the hall, where Spade and Mother Empress were walking together under the respectful gaze of all the nobles in the hall.
His gaze watched them confidently and casually stroll their path under the gaze of all the nobles present. Mother Empress Liviera’s hand was hooked in Spade’s right arm. Their image was too perfect and far above anyone else’s.
Arren didn’t take his eyes away from them, as if time slowed down and all of the details were registered in his mind. The dominant figure of Spade and the collected yet intimidating gaze that swept the hall while he was walking toward the center. Even the light shone on them, emphasizing how sacred their status was in the Empire.
This was his first time witnessing this scene, and the first few times, he only lowered his head, not daring to look at all at the most dazzling sun of the Empire, afraid that the moment he did he would disintegrate in an instant with its scorching heat.
And now, he dared and bravely stared at this sun, even approaching it like a moth not afraid to play with the flame. However, unlike the moth that was burned by the fire for being reckless, Arren wasn’t scorched by this heat at all. Rather, the moment that the eyes of the sun lingered on him, a different kind of warmth enveloped him instead.
Arren’s eyes brightened as, in the second that they locked gazes, he knew that Spade’s gaze landed on him for a second before averting his gaze.
And as they did, he realized being close to the sun wasn’t as scary as it seemed, as long as one gained their approval.
"I’m different from that moth; I didn’t approach the sun—he was the one who did," Arren mumbled to himself. It sounded a little conceited, but it was the truth.
Arren avoided being burned by Spade’s dazzling identity with his best, and yet the alpha came into his life and has never left since, warming the omega’s life with his innate heat. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
