Chapter 68: Messy Plot (3)
And that was the end of it. They continued eating again and occasionally talking about anything. Overall, the breakfast turned out better than Arren initially thought.
Afterward, Spade carried Arren to the usual room, where he studied from his online class with Rave. Despite the fact that he wasn’t studying seriously.
Spade didn’t stay longer, and in a moment he was yet again in front of Mother Empress Liviera. This time, there were only the two of them in his imperial study.
Since earlier, when his omega father proposed to have dinner with Arren, Spade vaguely had the idea that Mother Empress Liviera had something to say to him. And for what it was, he also had a guess.
"It had been a while since I came here," Liviera mumbled as he walked around Spade’s study, while he was standing to the side, waiting for his father to say anything.
"Royal Mother is always welcome to visit me anytime; you should go out of your room more," Spade responded, though it was clear that Liviera was only mumbling to himself.
However, Liviera smiled as he heard his son say it. He turned to look at Spade and nodded gently before lifting his head to stare at the picture that was displayed on the wall.
It was their family picture, and the last one before everything happened. Liviera became lost for a moment, and Spade didn’t interrupt and stayed silent. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Time truly is scary, unknowingly, many years had passed," Liviera mumbled again, and after a few moments, he finally said something that completely changed the atmosphere.
"You already had a guess on why I want to talk to you, right?"
At this question, Spade instantly became more solemn.
"Yes, I do have a guess on what it is," he answered.
Liviera took a final glance at the picture before shifting his gaze to Spade, who seriously met his gaze. He still had the gentle demeanor of his omega father, but something within him was different.
"Spade, I can’t say if it is really the right time or not. However, as you already started, perhaps I can already tell you everything I know... including the things your father left behind for you."
Spade’s nerves instantly became tense and turned more serious than ever. It was finally here. When he started the investigation and found out that the details of the investigation from years ago were deleted from the database, Spade already guessed that it was impossible for his father to completely erase it without a trace as it was a foolish move. So, there was only one possibility, his father gave the backup file to the individual he trusted more than anyone.
And he fixed his gaze on his omega father, and who else would that individual be other than Liviera, the Mother Empress? The mate he loved the most.
"My son, you can’t back out now that you’ve started this." Liviera stared at his son, "You know what this means, right, son?"
Spade’s gaze darkened, and the resolve flickered within, as he nodded.
"Yes, Royal Mother."
He knew better than anyone that all of this would only result in one possibility: war. Yes, to truly end this, war was inevitable. And he was certain that whoever was behind all of this was already planning for this outcome the moment he made his presence known—perhaps the true purpose of this organization was to prepare for it.
Liviera nodded, seemingly satisfied with Spade’s answer or even with the burning resolve in his eyes.
"Your father entrusted me with all the data that was collected on that investigation. No one knows the reach of that investigation or if it touched on some truths, however, it is already a good reference for you. And I will also give you everything that I have gathered over the years. together with these two references, your investigation will go much more smoothly, and I’m sure you can see much more than we already did."
Liviera’s tone was still calm and that of a loving mother, instructing his son on his path. Although, from another perspective, there was also some tiredness in his tone.
After he said that, Liviera took off the small tiara on his head, although it wasn’t his real crown and looked more like a hairpin than a tiara. However, he always wore it, and over the years, people already regarded it as his crown.
Spade watched his omega father through it all. Liviera then pulled out the largest gem in the tiara. It was pulled out effortlessly, as it was really not part of it in the first place.
"Here, inside this gem, is where the chip that your father left behind for you. Even I never read any of its contents." The gem glistened, and Spade approached his mother and solemnly took it from Liviera.
For his father to hide it to this extent, Spade was extremely curious about its contents. And more than that, he was also a little anxious about the truths that he would discover from it.
Spade couldn’t look at this gem for much longer as Liviera grasped his hand. And it was extremely tight; it wasn’t painful for him, but that wouldn’t be the case for his omega father.
"Royal Mother?" He lifted his gaze, only for all of his words to not be uttered as he was taken aback when he saw Liviera’s expression.
There was anger in his eyes, but mostly desperation and pain. Spade immediately attended to Liviera and held him for support. His heart raced, and his omega father was also one of the most important people to him. He had never seen this expression from his omega father before.
"My son, you have to know who they are. Promise me? Please, you have to. Your father was killed by them, you have to avenge him! They need to be killed, all of them!" he yelled.
Liviera’s emotions exploded, as if all of the emotions he had suppressed and controlled in order to keep that chip safe until the right time came to an end when he finally handed it over to Spade. Now that Spade already knew about it, Liviera wanted to support his son and, more than that, be supported by his son as well.
Spade’s brows furrowed, and he was thorn. His omega father’s expulsions were out of control, and he was afraid that this would cause complications; after all, Liviera wasn’t so young anymore. He rubbed Liviera’s back, trying to calm him down. However, his omega father only repeated his words.
He was aware that his father’s health had deteriorated only a few months after the bloody year, and the investigation had stressed him and led to more complications. Was there more to it?
"Royal Mother, please calm down. Yes, I promise you. But, what do you mean? Isn’t it true that the Royal Father died as a result of his failing health?" He spoke calmly, although he was already conflicted inside. He had to be stronger and support them both, especially as Liviera was extremely agitated with emotions.
"Huh, health? Do you think your father will really die from too much stress in only a few months? Yes, that was really a year with too many setbacks for him, however, your father was still young and healthy at that time without any health issues at all." Lievera began, tone much higher, and Spade almost widened his eyes as he suddenly had a terrifying thought. The omega also didn’t make him guess for long.
"Your father was poisoned!" Liviera revealed it was as though a thunderous roar that made Spade froze and dazed.
His omega father still continued, "It’s a poison that is hard to detect, and only after taking it regularly will it become a lethal poison. Unfortunately, we discovered it too late, and the poison is already in effect. That’s also one of the main reasons your father had to make final arrangements and delete everything in the database. That situation proved that the organization had already infiltrated deeply into the palace.
To be able to poison the Emperor while leaving no trace, only a higher noble could interact so closely with him. Those royal attendants wouldn’t have any huts to do it themselves, and it wouldn’t leave any trace.
Spade’s gaze became colder. They only need to do it themselves. As for who it would be, the four Dukes were the biggest suspects.
