The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 61: Team Up (1)
Chapter 61: Team Up (1)
Arren parted his lips, and he fell silent. A lot of thoughts suddenly flashed through his mind. Rave’s father saw the leader’s face.
Arren was taken aback earlier when Rave claimed that his parents did not die in the bloody year and simply vanished. He didn’t know of this information, however, and he also brushed it off as part of the details he forgot.
And now that Rave told them that his father saw the face of the leader, doubts really began to appear in his mind. Suddenly, Arren wasn’t sure anymore. Was this ever mentioned in the novel, or one of the plot holes?
There was such a possibility that he couldn’t be sure either. However, he had the feeling this information was really going to be crucial.
Arren stared at the omega in front of him. He thought that as someone who transmigrated and the one who read the novel, he was the one who could understand Rave more than anyone, including Rave himself.
And yet, it was as if reality tried to slap Arren again, reminding him once more that this world was not a novel anymore and the things he knew might not necessarily be accurate in time.
As he continued to watch Rave, a thought flashed in his mind. Was it possible that Rave’s main goal in investigating the organization and that bloody year was not to know the downfall of their family or avenge his parents but to find out his parents’ whereabouts all along?
A flash of insight flashed through his eyes before dissipating. There was no need to think too much or trap himself in the so-called plot; Rave was already here to fill him in on everything he wanted to know. This was only the beginning.
"What made you convinced that your parents are still alive?" Spade inquired, and Arren decided to focus on the conversation first and shelve all of his doubts and thoughts for the time being.
Rave pressed his lips together, and his calm composure came back.
"Because they are," he paused for a moment, as if hesitating, before finally revealing what was on his mind.
"I never saw their body, and I’m never convinced that they are dead. Then, every year on my birthday, I will always receive a gift. I don’t know where they came from, but on my fifteenth birthday, the gift had a note in it. It says..." as if a lump had choked Rave’s throat and he couldn’t say his next words until a hand gently held his now trembling hand.
Rave took a deep breath and continued, "It says, don’t look for them. They knew that I had an intention about it, the note only had that three words. And on my next birthday, I didn’t receive any gifts anymore."
After Rave finished, silence completely shrouded the room. At least they wanted him to calm down first. Arren could also somehow sympathize with the omega.
His mother had died in the bloody year as well. However, as he still had a loving father left with him while Rave had nothing, Arren chose to be silent. And he was also aware Rave didn’t need sympathy, nor did he care for it.
It only took a few moments before Rave spoke again; he truly admired the omega in front of him with his heart. To be able to become so strong despite all that, Arren’s courage suddenly ignited.
"And after that, I already swore to myself that I would investigate that organization and I would find my parents. So, even though I know I’m a pawn that my uncle planted in the palace, I don’t really care. In fact, even if my uncle does not recommend me, I will apply to be a royal attendant myself."
Arren couldn’t even take his gaze off the omega; the fire of determination in his eyes seemed to resonate within him, lighting a spark that he wasn’t sure even existed.
"You’re a spy for the Right Faction?" It was Spade’s voice that rang this time. Arren glanced at him; the alpha still appeared calm and seemed unbothered by Rave’s confession.
Rave was also not surprised that Spade was already aware of it. He only nodded in response. Strangely, even though he was admitting he was a spy in front of the Emperor himself, Rave wasn’t as anxious as he had thought he would be.
Arren didn’t have much reaction to this. He had long known that Rave was a spy planted by the right faction in the palace. It wasn’t unusual and was a normal practice of the factions to keep a close eye on what happened inside the palace and get the latest information.
In terms of risk, it wasn’t that severe. Planting royal attendants as informants by the two Dukes, or faction leaders, could be considered a minor offense at best, unless it was something more serious, such as poisoning the monarch or plotting a rebellion. The previous Emperors or Spade didn’t mind it too much.
There were three main factions in the Empire. That was the Royal Faction led by Duke Ellis and his father, the faction loyal to the crown. The Right Faction was led by Duke Arkin, a faction known to be the most conservative and famous for their advocacy of maintaining old traditions and order. And the Left Faction, led by Duke Merphen, a faction that was mostly known to be innovative and the forefront supporter of change, was really famous among the younger generations of the Empire.
The Empire only had four Duke houses, and they were considered the Empire’s cornerstones.
The Right and Left Factions’ fight against each other had always been going on for years, and one of the main reasons was the Emperors’ support on the sidelines. If they didn’t fight, then the monarch would be uneasy. It was the so-called balance of power.
Rave’s uncle on his omega father’s side was a Count that was under the Right Faction. He grew up under their wing after the Amos Marquis House collapsed and became history.
Although Rave was still alive and could support the noble title when he reached legal age, the heavy debts that suddenly emerged out of nowhere under his parents’ names made it impossible. So, all their possessions had become collateral, and there was nothing left for Rave—even their main mansion became ashes from that bloody night.
"Uh, that is not a serious offense, right?" Arren suddenly blurted out, interrupting them. Only to realize, as he looked at Spade, who was now looking at him, "S-Sorry... continue," he bit his lips and leaned back in the couch, sipping his tea and averting his gaze from Spade.
What the hell? He became so lost in his thoughts that he suddenly wanted to support and help Rave.
"It’s alright, being a spy is not really a serious case. Especially since you haven’t done any serious harm yet aside from sneaking some information." Spade started, and Arren immediately returned his gaze to the alpha.
Not just him; the three of them fixed their attention on Spade and listened intently to him.
"However, a spy is still a spy in the end, even though you have your own reasons. You still have a punishment for it." Spade continued, and Arren bit his tongue, trying so hard not to interrupt Spade. No, his boyfriend was still in monarch mode; he should respect that.
But he really wanted to tell him to spare Rave and just let him be a part of the investigation. What punishment? That was only wasting Rave’s worth and potential.
Rave, as if expecting this from Spade, smiled and was about to say something but was cut off by Spade himself. It seemed he was still not finished. freeweɓnøvel.com
"Aren’t you curious what your punishment is?" Spade asked Rave, not minding the burning gaze that Arren was giving him at the side. Without asking anything, he knew that his omega didn’t want Rave to be punished or convicted.
He also didn’t have any intention to do so. His eyes glanced slightly at the white-haired omega’s side; his chief guard was silent, only holding Rave’s hand tightly, and yet the reluctance in his eyes couldn’t escape Spade’s eyes. The corner of Spade’s lips arched up slightly, interesting. This was the first time seeing his cousin like this, who always acknowledged everything he said.
"I’ll accept whatever the punishment is, Your Majesty." The omega responded simply, with no resentment in his tone, only acceptance.
Spade fell silent as his eyebrows rose; however, he didn’t say anything for a moment. There was no particular reason for his silence; he was only enjoying the piercing gaze of Arren at his side, which any minute now would probably interrupt again. He forced himself to maintain his calm expression, although a ghost of a smile was attempting to appear on his lips.
"Your punishment... is to help us investigate the organization and cooperate with the team." Spade finally told them the punishment. Rave’s mouth parted and seemed to say something, but he only smiled and brushed it off, then glanced at his cousin, who also now had a surprised expression on his face while looking at him.
"What do you think? Do you accept this punishment?"
