The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 218: Decision (3)
Chapter 218: Decision (3)
Levin’s mouth parted, taken aback by Spade’s words that he needed a few seconds to completely process. He blinked his eyes, and the confusion persisted until it gradually faded, seeing the calm and familiar expression that revealed itself on Spade’s face.
Spade watched Levin patiently, witnessing how just his mere words alone could change the alpha’s expressions in an instant, and he could influence him whenever he wanted to.
This was a kind of dependency that developed throughout the years. Spade realized then that he wasn’t the only one grateful for Levin’s presence in his life when he needed someone with him the most; it was the same the other way around.
Levin grew up with him, and in turn, Spade unknowingly influenced him so much that he became dependent on him. He knew that both of them had a status that could shake the whole empire if they decided to go against each other.
Spade was never naive; even when he was a kid, he was smart enough to know that at some point, Levin could fight with him on the throne. However, despite that, they got along extremely well.
Fear. Spade had seen that kind of fear in Levin’s eyes each time. Spade would not call Levin a coward just because he wanted to escape the pressure of his identity; rather, he was brave for standing up for himself and taking the route he wanted to take for himself. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
In that respect, Levin was much braver than him; Spade never had an option or opportunity to escape his fate. He needed to take the throne; it was his destiny.
And now he was seeing the same kind of fear, but compared to the fear of his status, it was the kind of fear that influenced him the most. And Spade was the center of this fear.
"Levin," Spade called the alpha’s name again. "I hope you’re not forgetting my other identity to you. I might be a monarch for the citizens of the empire, but for those I care for, I’m only Spade."
Spade wanted to let him know the difference between being an Emperor and just being himself. And now, he wanted them to ignore this status that made them a monarch and his subordinate relationship.
Levin’s lips quivered as he bit into them. He hasn’t forgotten it, but he only grew used to it. At some point, it seemed that because of this, unknowingly, he distanced himself from Spade and drew a line between them in how he was supposed to act with him.
Gradually, a trace of a smile appeared on his lips; he didn’t know, but this realization made his mind clear, and even though he was still nervous, there was now some relief inside of him.
Now that they have already cleared up their relationship at this moment, it is time to return to the main matter at hand. It was so important that it might even decide what their relationship would be from then on.
It was inevitable, no matter how scared they were to acknowledge it.
The atmosphere between them grew solemn; not even being casual or calm could ease their conflicted feelings.
Spade shifted in his seat, resting his hand on his knees, not leaving his gaze off of his cousin, who held the same expression as him but took a deep breath before meeting his gaze. Now he appeared much more confident compared to his pale appearance earlier.
He nodded; it seemed they were both ready for this conversation or at least they were trying to. As the silence shrouded them, Spade spoke once again in his calm tone, but the raging emotion deep inside of him seeped into his words.
No matter how much he wanted to be calm and get through this conversation with a clear mind, Spade still couldn’t control his emotions as he thought of the subjects of this conversation.
His amber eyes grew darker and deeper, staring at Levin. "How much do you know?" Spade wanted to confirm what he knew first, afraid that he might surprise Levin, not knowing if he already knew about it.
It was a kind consideration for him.
Levin forced himself to relax in his seat; his throat bobbed as his stomach churned from this question. Heaving a breath, he opened his mouth and responded.
"My father..." his voice getting weaker with only these two words that he had to pause, pain was visible in his eyes, and continued, "...is the leader of the organization," Levin answered honestly. Looking at how unsurprised Spade was, it was only a confirmation.
Spade also let out a sigh; he could understand how hard it was for Levin, knowing the person they had been investigating all along was his own father.
He fell silent. Levin still didn’t know about his aunt, which was something they needed to discuss. Spade was extremely complicated about what action he was supposed to take in dealing with her. His father’s dying wish was for him to save his aunt, but without even saying if he would agree to it, Spade was also worried for his omega father.
Once he found out, Empress Liviera would do whatever it takes to kill Princess Coreen, and it wouldn’t stop there; Levin might be implicated as well with this anger. No matter if Levin chose to be by their side or not.
He was still contemplating how to reveal the matter to his aunt when Levin began to speak again, and it was clear that this left a bigger impression on him as his voice almost cracked and he didn’t finish his words. His face contorted, and he shook his head.
"My mom..."
Spade frowned. "You already know?" he blurted out.
Levin froze, whipped his head, and looked at Spade, surprise written in his expression. "Y-You also know?"
Looking at it, Spade chose to ask again. "What about the aunt that you found out about?"
"She..." puffing a mouthful of air to relieve his tightening chest again, "... she’s not in her right mind. I know, she isn’t like that. But for some reason... no, Father must have done something to her. Mom isn’t a psychopath." Levin contradicted his words, beginning to become out of it again.
Spade deduced what Levin could mean by it; it appeared he was given a shock by what he encountered yesterday, and it had something to do with his aunt.
"The chip has been decrypted." Levin knew that it had, but Spade still started with it. "And my father left a video message to me, holding within it his last wish." Spade momentarily became dazed, his father’s voice repeating in his mind.
Levin also stopped; a bad premonition suddenly dawned on him, and his heartbeat increased as he waited for Spade to continue. He knew that Spade’s telling him this was not unnecessary and had something to do with his mother.
Spade didn’t make Levin guess further and continued, saying it later or now didn’t make much difference; it was the same devastated feeling.
"Aunt... poisoned father." In the same way that he held his breath, still affected by this truth, Levin’s mind spun so that he became dizzy. His ears rang, and the suffocation quickly returned to torment him.
He looked at Spade, questioning him with his eyes, but it was also tinged with the plea that his ears were only fooling him. The moment that Spade nodded, the world that had already crumbled upon seeing his mother insanely admire the bloody corpses of their servants had now truly burned before his eyes.
Was it a reality? Heh, Levin face-palmed; it was real. There was no need to deceive himself or let cowardice speak for itself. Spade would never lie to him, and he knew that with how his mother acted, it wasn’t entirely impossible.
"But, as father said, aunt was only manipulated." Spade knew this reason wouldn’t ease their feelings, but he told him regardless: "The lab is already investigating this possibility, and I’m only waiting for the results."
His father had already conducted an almost thorough test and investigation on this, so all they had to do was prove it and conduct their own using the data provided to them with the latest tools. Spade also already made the Black Intel search for the personnel and agents that did the test almost fifteen years ago; these were hidden by his father by assigning them to distant places silently.
Levin hopelessly lowered his head, his head throbbing and his strength leaving him. He swallowed, despite the lump in his throat that made it painful for him. "Are you... firing me?" He minced his words, saying it lightly even when both knew what it meant. Firing him as a Chief Guard could only mean one thing. Because he might already have broken down if he said the word.
Spade leaned on the seat, not answering for a while, and looked up at the ceiling. His eyes held his most complicated emotion. As much as Levin was affected, he was too. Saying to give an ultimatum was easier, but the moment it came, Spade found it difficult to move forward.
He licked his lips, returning his gaze to Levin.
"It’s up to you," he answered, and like Levin, he chose to lightly say it.
Levin raised his head; his bloodshot eyes carried his heart and the emotion he had. "Am I still deserving to stand beside you?" For him, he never needed an option; It was only one option from the beginning.
He pondered all night, not thinking of whose side he would choose, but... how to continue to stay by Spade’s side and fight alongside him.
This time, it was Spade’s turn to be taken aback. He stared at Levin, and after a few moments, he chuckled, the kind that revealed his relief.
"Since when did you not deserve to stand beside me?"
