The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 216: Decision (1)
Chapter 216: Decision (1)
Even if Spade had already anticipated that Levin would come and talk to him, he was still quite surprised when the alpha arrived to talk to him.
It was early in the morning; Arren and Spade had breakfast, and it was still 7 a.m., so he was still a bit sleepy. However, he couldn’t sleep either anymore.
Spade wasn’t as busy this day; it was like after the monthly assembly he would have a day off the next day. It was also because something big was about to happen that he was already doing his best to be with Arren.
They were only about to check something in Spade’s study when they both stopped. There, in front of the door, sat Levin. He was leaning on the door; his eyes were blank as he looked into the distance. Even if they couldn’t see his face closer, it was obvious that the alpha had been awake the whole night with how exhausted he looked.
Arren glanced at Spade, who did the same, as they shared the same expression. He really came. Both returned their gaze to Levin; Arren’s expression was conflicted, while Spade’s was still the same but more solemn.
One only knew Levin superficially at most, from the book and how he interacted with the alpha when they were together. And the other knew Levin since they were kids; Spade might not show it to his face often, but wasn’t it because he treasured their time together that he didn’t cut off the alpha immediately?
Looking at Levin, Spade already had a guess that something had indeed happened for him to be like this. With this, he frowned. What could it be that the alpha looked so devastated now?
They stood not far away from Levin, watching him. The alpha, who was sitting absentmindedly on the ground, seemed to sense someone was looking at him as he instinctively raised his head to look in their direction.
At first, Levin only stared at them with his dazed eyes, but a few seconds later, when it registered in his mind and he recognized who they were, the alpha stood almost instinctively and bowed as a greeting before raising his head again, but he still didn’t dare to raise his head and meet their gaze, or more specifically Spade’s.
Arren even thought that the alpha had definitely become dizzy because of this series of actions. He only fell silent at the side, not commenting on anything. Arren might be mischievous and oblivious at times, but he knew how to read the room. Not to mention, he was already briefed on this by Spade last night.
He observed the alpha and noticed his almost bloodshot eyes from not sleeping the whole night. Something definitely happened yesterday. When he met Levin, even though he still looked stressed and not in the mood, he still looked somewhat fine, and not this too... exhausted and devastated.
Could it be...
Arren was still making conjectures inside his mind when Spade spoke first, shattering the silence between them.
"You came, Spade calmly said, his tone almost devoid of any expression, but his eyes held his emotion, which Levin couldn’t see because he wasn’t looking directly at Spade.
Levin looked deflated as his shoulders drooped. Biting his lips to control himself, he nodded.
"Yes, Your Majesty." It was respectful, but the way he said it wasn’t as confident as before, and it carried an awkwardness that attributed to being hesitant if he was still deserving to call Spade like that.
Arren averted his eyes from Levin; he was uncomfortable seeing him like this. It would be a lie to say that he wasn’t affected by what was happening between Spade and Levin; it was also an ill-fated relationship where it wasn’t their fault to begin with, but they were the ones who would face the sins of yesterday.
It was unfair. Why were Spade and Levin the ones suffering because of what happened, when it wasn’t even their fault? Unbeknownst to him, his right hand was already clenched into a fist while gripping Spade’s hands, which were interlocked with his.
He only woke up from his thoughts when Levin spoke again. His tone was still weak, but it was firm enough to reveal what kind of determination and will he put into it as he decided to finally face the problem at hand.
"Your Majesty... I’m ready," Levin said. For someone who wasn’t informed, this statement seemed out of place and came from nowhere.
After last night’s pondering, Levin realized that it was indeed the case. From the start, Spade was only waiting for him to be ready. It only happened that he found out the truth on his own. And it was also only one of the truths at that.
Spade lingered with his gaze on Levin, not saying anything. He looked at Arren, who was listening to them and who also lifted his head and made eye contact with him. This time, he wouldn’t deliberately ask for the omega’s permission to be understanding and not hear their conversation. He was still afraid that knowing who the leader was could trigger the trauma within Arren, but it was up to him if he wanted to listen.
Arren could discern this intention at a glance. For that, he was thankful. What he actually didn’t want was to be chased out of the conversation just because of a reason that he was weak; he admitted that he was. He could see that Spade was trying, giving him the option himself.
A small, pleasant smile graced his lips, and he chose what was best in this situation. "You two can talk." He paused and continued while squeezing Spade’s hand in an assuring way, "I’ll be with Rave."
Earlier, Arren saw Rave’s message, which was sent last night, saying that he had already returned to the palace. For him, it was better that only the two were there to address their issues or what decisions they would make in the end. Either Levin would still choose to stay by Spade’s side or their relationship would be cut off. Either way, something would change between them, and that was the tragic reality.
"Are you sure?" Spade inquired, his voice getting weaker and sounding like a whisper.
Arren nodded, sure of his decision. He didn’t want his presence to be one of the factors that could ruin it for them. He wasn’t dumb; he had a hunch about why Spade was being careful around him about the truth about Levin and the organization.
Insisting on something he also acknowledged that he wasn’t ready to face was akin to creating more problems for themselves. In these troubled times, Arren needed to be even more careful and not be a burden to the people around him.
With one last glance at Levin and assuring Spade again that he was fine, Arren went on his way. Through it all, he sensed that he was sent off his way by Spade’s eyes, chasing him. He resisted looking back and continued with his steps; he only laughed in his mind.
Spade, I’m still in the palace, you know. Arren shook his head, took his phone out when he was already a distance away from Spade’s study and contacted Rave.
The omega was an early bird, so Arren knew he was already awake and asked to meet him where he always passed his time. Rave was his personal attendant in the palace, so he really didn’t have shifts on other jobs in the palace. Spade did it so that the omega couldn’t concentrate on being with Arren, so he wouldn’t get bored.
Only a minute later, his phone vibrated, and a new message popped up on his screen. Rave quickly responded to him, and Arren’s brow arched up in pleasant surprise. He knew the omega was awake, but he didn’t expect him to reply so quickly.
Rave wasn’t someone to idle with his phone, and he rarely uses it, so he was expecting that the Omega could read it a while later.
I’ll be there. It read, He didn’t even ask why and just agreed. They rarely message each other and mostly call or video call. And when they did, Rave’s reply was always so unenthusiastic and sarcastic that Arren could read it, hearing the omega’s voice in his head. So he was surprised that he didn’t reply with a sarcastic remark first but with a simple message.
Anyway, it was fine too. Arren shrugged and threw this matter aside, replying that he would wait for him. He continued with his pace; his mind would occasionally wander to Spade and Levin, which he had only left not even ten minutes ago.
Arren sighed, worried. Hopefully, everything will turn out okay in the end. What he could do was be optimistic about it until the very last moment.
When he was inside the room and sat on the couch, his butt still hadn’t even warmed up in his seat when the door opened. At first, Arren thought it was a royal attendant scheduled to clean the room, but he was taken aback to see Rave.
Well, of course, Rave being there wasn’t surprising since he was the one who invited him. What was surprising was that he also arrived almost at the same time as Arren.
No, what made Arren even more dumbfounded was what Rave looked like right now, which is completely different from how he usually looks. There were faint signs of lack of sleep, and he looked tired too.
"Rave, did you even sleep last night?" he exclaimed, surprised but also worried.
