The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 210: Loyalty Vs. Filial Piety (1)
Chapter 210: Loyalty Vs. Filial Piety (1)
An ultimatum. It was a harsh decision, but it was necessary. Strictly speaking, Spade giving an ultimatum to Levin was better than not giving the alpha a choice at all.
He considered their relationship and the fact that Levin wasn’t truly involved in what his parents were doing, at least not yet based on the evidence. This was also going to be his final mission if Levin ever chose to fight with his family.
No doubt, no matter what his decision was, Levin would be miserable for a while, if not all of his life.
Serrien’s eyes widened slightly, and yet it didn’t take long for understanding to dawn on him. He bowed his head and exhaled a distressed sigh. He was really in a difficult position. What more Levin who would be the center of it later on?
Spade noticed the change in Serrien’s mood, but he didn’t console him either. This was a situation in which no words of comfort could give them any kind of consolation; only time would tell, or even the result instead.
No one knew for sure. Spade only needed to focus; he couldn’t take any failure in this mission; otherwise, the people he cared for were at stake, not to mention the millions of people in the empire.
He closed his eyes for a moment, unmoving in the seat as though he had already taken a nap. Serrien, who was also distraught, fell silent and didn’t bother him.
Spade was always worried; what he dreamed of still lingered in his mind and would occasionally bother him. He knew it had significance, and in the ever-increasing worries of Spade, that dream became his source of fear and never failed to make him overthink.
Protect him. Spade didn’t doubt who he was referring to.

Arren didn’t urge the alpha and patiently waited for his answer or what Levin could say about his question. Since the beginning, he wasn’t really demanding an answer from him; it was more of a matter of giving Levin the clue and getting him ready for Spade’s questions.
Spade never told him his plan, and he never asked either, but he had an inkling of what the alpha had in mind. However, he was still not sure of the answer himself.
Was being loyal to a person enough to go against the people you loved? He didn’t know, and it was a complicated matter for him because he wasn’t in the same situation as Levin.
Levin fell silent for over a minute. Arren couldn’t read what he was thinking at this moment, but the pained expression was enough to know what he was feeling.
Arren stared at the alpha as he finally looked up and made eye contact with him. He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
"Is being loyal, enough... to be trusted?" Levin inquired.
And at this question, it was Arren’s turn to fall silent. Was loyalty always going hand in hand with trust? Between a monarch and his knight, what were the limitations and boundaries between the words loyalty and trust?
Even when they finished their conversation, no one answered each question. Perhaps, the answers they needed were never intended to be received from each other.
Both had a tacit understanding not to bring up the topic again. While Arren accomplished what he wanted, giving Levin the heads up. If only Arren knew just how much truth hangs around Levin, his mood might become even more complicated.
Arren didn’t return to his room even after Levin left and excused himself. He only toured the palace to familiarize himself with its ways and directions. Even if he was a self-proclaimed direction idiot, there was nothing wrong with memorizing the way.
Despite being alone, it wasn’t a problem for him at all, as he made his time worthwhile. He came back into the kitchen to get his afternoon snack and then went to play in the gazebo.
As he sat in the garden, the wind brushing against his face, it was actually astonishing to have moments like this even with the impending chaos that was right in their corner.
He only took in the atmosphere and relaxed himself in the place, not knowing how many minutes or hours had passed. Only he knew that it was almost late in the afternoon when he left.
Arren didn’t follow the direction that led to the bedroom but to Spade’s study; he planned to wait there for Spade so they could eat dinner together. He knew that the assembly was already nearing its end or had already ended.
He went a long way since it wasn’t really the right route there before he came in the other direction, so he could even see the people leaving from where he was.
It looked like he was right; the assembly was already finished. Arren stayed conscious and slowed his pace so he wouldn’t be eye-catching. However, with his other sugar candy color of hair alone, it would already be something that loved the attention.
Some looked in his way while Arren continued with his steps but quickly averted their eyes as they remembered who this omega was. No one dared to have a second look again.
His way to Spade’s study was unimpeded, and it didn’t take long for him to arrive as he stood in front of the door. When he was about to open it, he already noticed that something was amiss so he paused.
Arren frowned and slowly opened the door. With the good soundproofing of the room, there was no way he could clearly hear what was going on inside.
His head came first as he took a peek, and Arren was taken aback for a second. The once quiet room he often saw was rather lively at this moment; Spade was not the only one there, and he was with a bunch of people he recognized.
He roamed his eyes around and looked at the people inside the room. Spade, who sat in his swivel chair. Serrien, his secretary, stood by his left side. Duke Katz, Arren’s father, stood before him on the right side. On the other side, on the left, stood Duke Merphen and an elderly couple, and some people stood behind them that he couldn’t recognize.
Saying it was lively was even an understatement when Duke Katz’s furious roar resounded.
"I don’t agree! That bastard grandson of yours harassed my son and his friend in broad daylight! Then you want us to only forgive him without punishments?" Arren knew his father was truly angry if he was already shouting with veins appearing in his neck.
With this yell, Arren already knew what this gathering was about. Although seeing Duke Merphen gave him a clue outright. This was definitely the issue with that Ramir bastard.
Arren was still contemplating whether to leave or let his presence be known when he was discovered first by Spade, who looked in his direction. In the end, all of the people present had already looked in his direction. He had no choice but to greet them and be involved in the conversation, although he was really involved in the first place. freewёbnoνel.com
"Ah... hello?" Arren didn’t know what to say, and he was suddenly the center of attraction. His gaze landed on Duke Merphen as he sensed how much he was looking at him.
Before, he wasn’t really bothered with it since Duke Merphen was always known to be a kind Duke and he was famous among the youths. And after all, they barely interacted, so he didn’t know him at all, and while he didn’t have a good impression of him, it wasn’t like he had some feud with him either prior to Ramir being a pervert and harassing them in the restaurant.
However, at this moment, he was suddenly uncomfortable with his intent gaze, as though there was some kind of meaning in it that Arren didn’t know, which made him anxious.
"Arren,"
"Son."
Spade and his father called him at the same time, shifting his attention to the two. The two were obviously stunned to see him there; no one was expecting him to come, and the same was true with Arren. He also didn’t anticipate something like this taking place there, or he would really wait for the alpha in his room instead.
His father would definitely visit them later as well.
He was at a loss for what to do—should he excuse himself or join in on the conversation? Arren had yet to answer this in his mind when an elderly voice that sounded kind but somehow sent alarm bells through Arren’s senses shattered the silence that had been brought by his arrival.
"Arren is here," he spoke. "Why don’t we let him decide instead?" Duke Merphen smiled but continued with a humble tone, "It’s him who got harassed by my grandson. Arren, I’m sorry for what my grandson did."
Since Arren was not yet looking at Duke Merphen when he spoke and his gaze was still fixed on Spade, he managed to witness just how even the slight change in the alpha’s expression as soon as Duke Merphen spoke.
The displeasure deepened even further as he called Arren’s name for the second time. Arren frowned. Something was also up with Duke Merphen?
