Chapter 208: Ultimatum (3)

Arren stopped in his tracks momentarily; suddenly he was hesitant to approach him. He was one of those aware of what might unfold over the next few days.

Like everyone else, he had mixed feelings; he didn’t know what would happen from then on or what Levin would choose. However, as he was already closer to them, Levin and the royal guard had already noticed him.

The two of them looked at him simultaneously, and Arren had no choice but to greet them since he had already been discovered. He smiled and continued to approach them.

"Hello, Levin," Arren greeted casually, and he also looked at the other guy and smiled at him before shifting it back to Levin, slightly observing the alpha that he had not seen for a while.

While Levin still looked the same, his expression lacked the casual smile that he often had. Levin was an alpha that he knew who could also look nonchalant and always grinned as though he had something funny or playful in his mind. Right, someone in the same vein as Arren.

As Arren stared at Levin, faint eyebags due to lack of sleep could be discerned under his eyes. He didn’t seem energetic either. That was when a realization struck him, Levi might not know, but he definitely could sense that something was about to happen.

Spade was also not doing his best to conceal it from the alpha by isolating him from the meetings and giving him continuous missions. It was as though Spade was letting Levin be ready for what was about to come.

"Young Master Arren," Levin responded; his voice truly lacked the playful nuisance that it had every time he called Arren. The other royal guard also greeted him.

Arren, who was always good at acting oblivious and clueless, came on stage at this time. He smiled, and he even looked cheery.

"Fortunately, I saw you!" Arren exclaimed, continuing with a frustrated tone, "I want to visit the kitchen but I got lost; now I’m really hungry." He then stared at Levin as he made a request, "Can you lead me to the kitchen, please?"

And likewise, like Spade, Levin couldn’t say no. It could be said that Arren’s charms were really hard to resist for anyone.

In the end, it was only the two of them that walked in the direction of the kitchen, as the royal guard still needed to do the errand Levin gave him.

The two of them walked silently side by side. Arren roamed his eyes around, gradually familiarizing himself with the direction. Although they seemed to all look the same to him, he wanted to ask what the difference was or if there were signs that he was going in the other direction.

He sighed; he was really a direction idiot.

And if the situation was even kidding him to the fullest, they came back to where he came from and went in the right-wing direction instead, and only a few minutes later they were already in the main royal kitchen.

Arren looked at it, and they stood just outside of it with a few attendants and royal guards glancing at them for a while before going on their way.

"It’s here, the kitchen," Levin informed Arren, which was basically obvious at this point as Arren saw the attire of chefs or even trolleys of food going in and out. It was truly a busy day for them, as it was the monthly assembly, which a lot of officials and nobles were in the palace to attend.

The corners of Arren’s lips couldn’t help but twitch as though he could hear the alpha mocking him. If it were any other normal day, he might already argue with him, but aside from the fact that he was really hungry, this was not the time to be doing that.

After all, he was sure Levin wasn’t mocking him, perhaps.

"Right, I can see that," Arren spoke, forcing himself to speak normally. He then changed the subject: "Levin, can you join me?" He looked over and arched his brow playfully, inviting the alpha.

He didn’t know anyone there, so Levin could be his speaker, while also having the chance to talk to the alpha. It was like killing two birds with one stone. Heh, Arren’s intentions were mostly the former.

Levin glanced at him, parted his lips, and was about to say something, but in the end, he closed it again. Instead, he nodded, agreeing with him.

Arren averted his eyes and took a deep breath. On the surface, he looked rather calm, but inside he was already screaming internally about how awkward it was to converse with Levin.

He didn’t know what to say, really. It was especially hard to keep his face and expressions at bay and ask some questions that lingered in his mind.

Such as... Are you okay? However, even in his mind, this question was truly not an appropriate one for something with an obvious answer. Levin wasn’t okay.

Shaking these thoughts from his head, he followed Levin inside the busy kitchen. The two of them easily captured the attention of the staff there; one was the chief of the royal guards, and the other was none other than the Emperor’s lover and their possible future Empress.

Despite the busy environment, almost all of them still managed to greet them as they passed by, which Arren reciprocated with a smile. Levin, however, only looked straight ahead, earning confused looks along the way.

In the palace, Levin was always known to be friendly and approachable; he was also rather easygoing, and if not for how his status was really intimidating to forget or ignore, some might really do so.

Arren noticed this, but he didn’t comment on it, and they continued. The two of them were only at the entrance of the biggest kitchen when they were approached and stopped by someone. Levin immediately came in front of Arren and looked at the person approaching them.

He looked over as well; it was also a chef based on his attire. He was also conscious, stopped just before them, and bowed slightly before raising his head.

"Chief Levin," he greeted Levin first and then shifted to him who was behind the alpha, "Young Master Arren!" He exclaimed this time, even though it wasn’t loud, there was really some urgency within.

Arren raised his brow; he didn’t know why this chef seemed agitated to see him. His question was immediately answered when the chef spoke again.

"Young Master Arren, we have been looking for you since earlier. We came to deliver your food, but you were not there. We thought you were still asleep, but someone met you outside." The chef still downplayed and lowered his voice to not sound disrespectful, but it was obvious how they were quite a mess when Arren was not in the room.

They were the ones personally assigned by His Majesty to take care of Arren’s food ever since, but it was only Rave who delivered it; the omega wasn’t there, so they were now assigned to deliver it to Arren straight in the room as well.

When Spade ate earlier, he especially instructed them to cook a healthy meal for Arren and deliver it when he was awake, so these kitchen staff really took it seriously and came to check if Arren was already awake almost every two hours since the morning.

As Arren listened to these words, his heart grew exceedingly uneasy, and he almost cursed himself. Did he just tire himself and also become lost when someone was already tasked with delivering his food?

Damn, he not only wasted his time but others too? He should’ve known; there was no way Spade would leave him alone hungry.

Arren subconsciously raised his head and happened to make eye contact with Levin, who was also looking at him, but this time there was now a trace of a smile in his expression, and the alpha almost laughed out loud in Arren’s face.

He furrowed his brows, becoming pissed off again with Levin’s expression, even though he was quite relieved inside. At least his dumb moments could ease the atmosphere between them. He was always optimistic about the results of his actions.

He only narrowed his eyes and glared at the alpha as he returned his gaze to the chef, who was waiting for his response. Arren smiled apologetically and said, "I’m sorry. I wanted to look around earlier." He lied, sneakily pinching the alpha’s waist when he noticed his reactions that made Levin wince in pain silently.

"It’s fine, though. I’ll just eat here." He swallowed mouthfuls of saliva after smelling those fragrant aromas of food, and his stomach grumbled once more. He was lucky it wasn’t too loud, so anyone other than him could hear. "I’ll be looking forward to your tasting your food again."

To hide the embarrassment he was feeling and his hunger, Arren decided to request that in a sweet tone, making the chef blush for a moment and nod. "Y-Yes, Young Master."

Arren sighed in relief; fortunately, the chef didn’t insist on asking. He lifted his gaze again and looked at Levin, who now really smiled and gave him a thumbs up.

Fucker. Arren muttered to himself.
