Chapter 637: When you realize silly talk about mundane things is a privilege

I realized that morning had come when we were in the bathroom, lazily washing our sticky skin and soaking in the warm bath. I couldn’t have the water too scalding because Natha didn’t like it, but I’d rather have his cold chest in the tub than the perfect temperature.

"Ahaha! I looked like a chew toy!"

I raised my arms and grinned at the bite marks all over them. There were more around my thighs and shoulder, along with hickeys that almost looked like bruises. Natha wasn’t playing around this time--he really made it so even my natural regeneration wouldn’t completely erase the marks.

Of course, I would ask him to do it again before I returned to the Human Realm.

"You look too happy for a chew toy," Natha poked my grinning cheek.

"That’s because you were the one chewing me!" I giggled and lightly bit the tip of his poking finger.

He grimaced and rubbed the marks, asking me for the sixth time if it wasn’t hurt. It stung at first, but in a good way--you know, like the kind of stinging pain when he entered me. I couldn’t help but smile and giggle while looking at them. It was hard to make Natha do it, since he hated the thought of causing me physical pain. But it seemed like this constant separation frustrated him as much as I did.

Thankfully, he only felt guilty for about ten minutes this morning before started admiring his artwork.

"Oh, the sun is up!" I blinked as the sunlight streamed through the vent in the bathroom, making the wet tile sparkle. "I better go and see Shwa after this."

"Huh?" Natha stropped stroking the bite marks and tilted his head. "You’re going to the nursery?"

"Of course?"

Wasn’t it illogical to think I wouldn’t see my son after a week? Why did he look surprised? Oh...was it because I asked him to not go to work today? It seemed like my husband misunderstood something.

"What? Do you think I’m going to spend the whole day having sex?" I turned my head so I could look at him. "I want to have family time with you and Shwa."

"...that’s a relief."

"Huh?"

"Oh, I think he’s up!" Natha turned his head toward the wall, uncharacteristically chirpy. "Let’s hurry and see him, he must have been missing you so bad."

"Did you--"

"Oh, he’s crying!" he grabbed me suddenly, carrying me while standing up and stepping out of the tub. "Let’s go, sweetheart!"

"Whoa--"

I blinked in surprise and grabbed his shoulder to balance myself. He didn’t even bother grabbing the towel first, whisking me out immediately as if he were chased by something.

"Let’s go have a morning walk together, mm? Should we have a picnic in the shed again?"

I stared at the purplish tip of his ear. "Umm...actually..."

"Yes, yes--what is it?" he put on a charming smile as we entered the dressing closet.

"I was wondering if we could visit the Lair..."

"Why not?" he stopped and raised his brow, before smiling softly when he realized my concern about the portal. "Unlike Jade at the start, our son already has a solid mana core since he was a fetus."

"Oh, that’s true!"

It was dangerous for Jade in the past because the mana wave in a portal might have a bad effect on unstable mana circuits of a still-forming core.

"And we can always use the portable bassinet as an extra protection," Natha added, talking about the small bed we used if we wanted to sleep with Shwa. I did not trust myself, and I was always afraid I would roll over him, so we put him in a small bed and placed it between us.

"Oh!" I clapped my hands joyfully. "So we can do it?"

"Of course," Natha smiled--a genuine one this time, not that overly charming and overly bright one he did so out-of-characterly before. "It will be his house in the future, so we better start introducing the place."

I nodded enthusiastically. "Mm! Also..."

"Yes?"

"I have no intention to end it here, so..." I tilted my head and curled my eyes, whispering in his ear. "We’ll postpone it until later, okay?"

"...you’re becoming shrewder, aren’t you?" Natha closed his eyes and sighed. So much for diverting my attention, huh? Did he think I wouldn’t see the way he flustered? Or how his ears turned purple and red?

Giggling, I rubbed the tip of his ears and winked. "I’m learning from you, dear husband."

"...I guess I’ll pull out one of those wedding gift."

My laughter persisted until he finished drying my body.

* * *

"My baby!"

There was no time to get ready because Natha wasn’t lying when he said Shwa was crying. It seemed like he saw Jade after waking up and, after playing with the little bird for fifteen minutes, he remembered that Jade being there meant I should be there.

But I wasn’t, in fact, there in the nursery. And so, our usually calm bay cried loudly to summon me. I only had the time to put on decent day clothes before running out of the bedroom. Shwa was already on his way to me, wailing inside Angwi’s arm.

Immediately, I held him close and patted him. "My son, my flower, my sunshine--did you miss me? Did you miss Papa?"

I stroked the wet, flushed cheeks that had become bigger in just a week. Making sure he could see me, I peppered kisses all over his face while we were walking together to the dining room. Finally, after I sat down and Shwa spent about five minutes staring at me while gripping my fingers, he let out a laugh.

"Uwaa!"

"Oh, look at him answering now!" I gasped joyfully. The way that tiny face crinkled and the whole world turned brighter was superb. "I leave for a week and you’re already this talkative!"

"He’s just cooing, you know..."

"You’ll be able to talk soon, won’t you?" I squeezed the chubby cheeks and kissed them. "Mm, yes you are!"

"Don’t give him too much pressure..."

"Uuu...uaa!"

"Of course, you will!" I hugged him tight and swayed him while laughter came out of my mouth without realizing it. "Look how chatty you are now!"

"You don’t hear me at all, do you?"

Natha sighed and shook his head as I continued to ignore him. I already spent a whole night with him, so it was time for our adorable, sweet, wonderful son.

Thankfully, I still have another son ready to come to the rescue. Jade, who already turned into a little boy again, jumped off his chair and approached the Demon Lord.

"Don’t worry, Natha," Jade patted the nightmare’s side. "Jade will listen."

"Will you?" Natha chuckled and picked the boy up onto his lap. "Then, tell me everything you’ve been doing over there."

Huh? That wasn’t listening, was it? I stifled my laugh and listened to them while feeding Shwa with a bottle.

"Jade will tell!" the little boy raised his hands and used them to pat Natha’s arms. "Listen! Listen! We have Choco and Shiny now!"

"From the start, Jade. You need to tell your story in order," Natha remarked. "Who are Choco and Shiny, and how do you meet them?"

"Yes, yes! Jade will start!" the green hair swayed along with the nod. "So, Choco is horsey that Jin ride!"

"...that’s interesting.

Uhh...

"And then Jade want to ride horsey, so Jade and Papa ride horsey instead," Jade giggled without realizing Natha’s narrowing eyes. "And then we meet Shiny when Jade and Papa glopp--"

"Gallop."

"--gallop over grass!"

"And who is this Shiny?"

"Shiny is a mole! Shiny bring us to small ball--umm...bead! Re...relic!"

I raised my thumb. "Good job."

Natha arched his brow and looked at me with slightly widened eyes. "So you find another bead?"

"We find lots! Oh, Jade have to tell Natha from the start again..."

And so, Jade started the story from the morning we bought Choco, bragging about how he picked the best carriage and giggled when Natha praised him for that. He told Natha about the mine and how we met Shiny, and when the story about the adventure in the ruin rolled in, the La siblings and Eruha were already sitting around the dining table, listening along to Jade’s story.

Needless to say my little attention-seeker loved it.

"I see..." Natha nodded at the end of the story. "Relics, a mine, and a golem. That was indeed a harvest."

"It was a rather productive week," I said. Listening to Jade, there was so much happening that none of those days felt like a waste.

"Indeed."

"You really need to give Heraz a bonus," I looked at Natha seriously.

He returned my gaze and smiled. "How much do you want?"

"Hmm...double his usual pay?"

It wouldn’t be too excessive right? The shapeshifter had worked above and beyond what I required him to do.

"I’ll triple it then," the Demon Lord said with a smirk.

I raised my brow and laughed. "Oh, you sound like a sugar daddy!"

Hmm...I think Ceci was affecting me too much.

Natha pursed his lips. "That would feel like I was an old man..."

I tilted my head. "But you are?"

Pfft--Lesta laughed into his tea, coughed, and then laughed again while Eruha stroked his back. Arta wasn’t drinking anything, so she laughed even louder than her twin.

Natha clicked his tongue. "By human standards, I’m not even forty yet."

"My Lord, twenty-five-year-old humans think people in their late thirties are old, you know..."

"Don’t worry, Nat," I patted his shoulder. "You’re a sexy old man."

"That’s..." Natha groaned and closed his eyes while leaning back. "I’m not sure how to proceed that..."

Once again, laughter erupted around the table. It was amazing that Shwa managed to sleep with this much noise, and the nannies told me that Shwa actually slept better if he was surrounded by noise. Well, that was good.

"I don’t mind the ’daddy’ part tho--"

"I told you to mind your words!" I smacked my husband’s back. Yeah, it was good that I could still scold this old man while Shwa was sleeping.

"That’s unfair," Natha pursed his lips. "You’re the one talking about sugar daddy."

"What is this sugar daddy stuff, though?" Eruha asked curiously.

"Oh, umm..."

"Is it old man who bring candies?" Jade gasped with widened eyes. "Natha give Jade lots of candies!"

"...s-sure!" I laughed awkwardly and nodded with enthusiasm. "Let’s go with that!"

For some reason, however, it was enough explanation for Lesta. "Ah, I think I understand."

"What?"

"Substitute candy with money."

"Aaah~"

As expected, this guy was quick.

Arta nodded and stroked her chin. "If you said it like that, then indeed--"

"Let’s stop talking about this!" I raised my hand in defeat, as the one who first threw the words thoughtlessly. "Let’s change the topic! Change the topic!"

As the table was filled with laughter once again because of my fluster, I couldn’t help but think: ahh...so peaceful.
