The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Chapter 15
10:30 a.m
Alexis stepped out of the working shared closet of the male staff, head rising to meet Augustus’s gaze.
Augustus scrutinized her from head to toe. Despite finding the smallest of the uniforms he could, the pair of black suits didn’t seem to be a very perfect fit.
"You’re very small for a beta..."
Alexis clutched the hem of this suit jacket, refusing to meet his probing gaze. She chuckled awkwardly, "Nature...cheated me, I guess."
"It sure did." He stepped towards her and grasped the collar, tugging it properly before folding it. He adjusted the jacket of her suit and shoved his hand into his pocket, taking out a brand-new pair of gloves.
She blinked her thick dark lashes at him. "What are these for?"
"No staff works around here with bare hands," he responded.
She nodded and slipped them into her skinny fingers before straightening up. "I think I’m all set," she said.
The man’s attention was intense as he held her gaze. "You are. Follow me." He turned and walked off to leave the nearly empty room.
Alexis glanced at Sereia, who was, of course, walking next to her.
"I don’t know about him, kid."
"Stop calling me a kid," she hissed.
Augustus halted and glanced at her over his shoulder. "Any problem?"
Alexis stiffened. "N-no." She shook her head rapidly.
"Wow...You’re doing so good, not acting very suspicious right now." Reia spoke into her head, tone filled with amusement.
Her face screwed into a scowl. ’Shut up!’
"I’m just saying, we need to be careful of this man. I’m not sure what it is about him."
’He doesn’t know I’m not a beta.’ Alexis glanced at her.
"I don’t think that is the problem, I mean—"
Every single staff within the grand foyer where she had stepped into with Augustus made a beeline over to stand in a straight line, bowing deeply and never raising their head. Not even Augustus was an exception.
"What’s happening?" Sereia asked.
Curious, Alexis raised her head, eyes immediately locking with Keelion, who was coming down the flight of stairs. He looked perfect, untouchable, his body draped in a pair of midnight blue suits, expensive with not a single dent in sight.
Hair was most perfectly slicked back.
The man looked flawless as if no one deserved to be even spat on by him.
His feet met the last step, all the while, he never broke eye contact with her, and eventually, Alexis had to be the one to look away, swallowing and bending herself.
The sound of heels broke into the foyer and then came a female voice.
"Fane." There were giggles to the voice of whoever this woman was.
And Alexis was so curious—so curious that she couldn’t help but look up, stilling when she saw a very bright blondie wrap her arms around Keelion, hugging him. She wasn’t too tall, wearing a pretty, colorful dress that was almost to her knees, matching her high heels.
Her hands slicked up his firm body, and her light brownish eyes dilated as the woman pressed her lips to Keelion’s, kissing him, almost like it was a normal thing.
"Who the hell is she?"
She couldn’t care for Sereia, who was fuming in her head, as the only thing she recognized was the weird tightness that constricted in her chest.
"Look away, girl."
But Alexis couldn’t.
Her gaze stayed fixed on Keelion, who didn’t even seem into the stupid kiss. The man held a blank look on his face, nothing to indicate he was enjoying it. That was until his eyes met hers again, and she flinched, falling back into Augustus, who lost his balance and fell on his butt.
"Are you insa—"
Alexis fell into him with a heavy thud, the back of her head smacking against his solid chest.
Reia’s mouth almost fell open and she quickly turned her head away despite her concern.
Eyes falling on Alexis, the ring around Keelion’s bright blue irises darkened as he shifted his gaze to the hand that Augustus had draped around her belly.
"Kid, this is not good. Get away from that man."
"I’m so sorry!" Alexis apologized, trying to get up from Augustus’s large frame. "I didn’t mean to—"
"On your first day of work?"
She froze, yet to fully get off Augustus, who’d also lifted his head at the sound of Keelion’s thundering voice.
The man stalked over to them, glacial eyes burning with a kind of irritation she’d never seen before. Not in the short while she’d known him.
"I didn’t mean to—"
He grasped her wrist and roughly yanked her off Augustus. "This is your first day of work, couldn’t you be anything but clumsy?" He rasped softly, tone sharp.
Alexis’s breath hitched, noting all eyes that were on the both of them. The woman was not an exception. If anything, she had this look of confusion on her face.
Keelion seemed to have noticed too, because he suddenly let go of her, taking a step back and storming off, fingers brushing along the slicked strands of his hair.
The blondie looked between her and the door through which Keelion had left and proceeded to run after him.
The other staff mumbled, one of them speaking, "You really need to be careful, newbie. Mistakes aren’t allowed here and definitely not interruptive ones like this. You’re working for the supreme alpha, not any random."
Alexis nodded at them and slightly bowed, apologizing, "I’m sorry." She turned to Augustus, apologizing to him too. "I’m really sorry. I just...tripped."
The man pinched between his brows, but he didn’t push it, turning and walking off. "Follow me, I’ll show you where you’ll start," he ordered.
She hurried after him and Sereia tagged along.
"Are you okay, Kid?"
She nodded. "I am."
"Stop mumbling to yourself!" Augustus snapped at her, dragging her attention. She moved closer to shorten the distance between them, and out of curiosity, she asked, "Um...sir, if it’s not a problem, may I ask who that woman was?"
"Why do you care?" he asked, voice rough. "Why are you interested?"
Alexis smiled crookedly. "I’m just curious, nothing more. I mean, everyone seems to know, I don’t want to be clueless."
"Is that so?" he intimidated her with his questioning glare. "Or is there another reason, Alexis Ruderth?"
