Chapter 71: She Can’t Avoid It

"Plan? Is your plan more important than my grandfather’s birthday party?" Alex’s voice was filled with frustration. "You do remember our agreement, don’t you? You’re supposed to go with me to family events. And it’s your priority above any other events."

Aurora felt her patience wearing thin after speaking with him. She tried to suppress her annoyance and gently responded, "Alex, I remember. However, I planned this trip long before..."

Alex regretted making the girl appear frightened by his anger. "Did you just mention that you have a trip? Where?" he asked, his tone somewhat gentler.

"Yes, I’m flying to Opal City tomorrow. I plan to visit my parents’ graves, and like your grandpa, my mother also has a birthday for me to celebrate. I hope you can understand, Alex."

Aurora averted her eyes, attempting to conceal her expression, fearing Alex might see her dishonesty.

Alex was surprised to hear about her trip plans. Why hadn’t Josh or Alvin mentioned it to him?

If that was indeed her plan, he could see why she refused. Yet, attending his grandfather’s birthday party alone was not an option; otherwise, his mother would insist he marry Heather.

He let out a deep, silent sigh as he attempted to meet her gaze, but she appeared to avoid looking at him deliberately.

"Aurora, what date is your mother’s birthday?"

"It’s on Sunday, just like your grandfather’s birthday. But I’m flying out tomorrow to take care of some personal matters there." She explained.

Aurora had shared nearly her whole life with Alex and always valued honesty with him above all else. However, she felt uneasy and anxious because she had not been truthful with him.

Her eyes were fixed on Alex in silence. Noticing the slight furrow on his forehead, she understood that he was making a plan.

Regardless of his intentions, she decided to continue with her flight tomorrow. She couldn’t remain here to accompany him to the Graystone family house.

After some time, Alex finally said, "Alright. You can fly tomorrow..."

’Why did he agree so quickly?’ She understood this man hated rejection, particularly from his wife or those under him.

"Alex, seriously? I can fly tomorrow..." she asked, unaware. Again, regret clouded her mind for asking him like that. ’My goodness, Rory!’ ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Alex’s frown deepened as he narrowed his eyes at Aurora’s expression.

"Why do you look so surprised? Do you want me to stop you from leaving?" he asked, puzzled. "If that’s what you want, then that’s fine. I don’t have to bother..."

"That’s not what I meant, Alex..." Aurora swiftly clarified. "I’m just so relieved to know you’re allowing me to leave tomorrow instead of making me go to your grandfather’s birthday."

Aurora beamed happily and added, "Thanks, Alex. I assure you I will be by your side at your next family event."

Alex sighed deeply at her words. He took a moment to admire her cheerful smile before stating, "Aurora, I never said you shouldn’t attend grandfather’s birthday celebration. You still need to be there."

Aurora’s smile faded immediately after she heard Alex’s words. ’Why did he suddenly change his mind again?’ she thought, feeling frustrated.

"Alex, I’m a little confused by what you said," Aurora expressed, unable to contain her thoughts any longer.

Rather than answering her, he asked, "Which one?"

She gritted her teeth before replying, "Earlier, you said I could fly. Yet here you are insisting that I go to your grandfather’s birthday party. What do you really want? How can I be in two places at the same time?"

Alex couldn’t help but chuckle softly; he found her beautiful blue eyes making her annoyance look utterly delightful.

Instead of reacting defensively, he flashed her a playful, almost mischievous grin, which only deepened the girl’s frown, transforming her annoyance into unexpectedly hilarious entertainment for him.

"I did say you can fly tomorrow," Alex paused to observe her puzzled expression. It was amusing to see her angry; she looked adorable.

Alex swiftly interrupted as she prepared to speak, "Nonetheless, I would like you to return home on Sunday afternoon. You’ll join us for my grandpa’s birthday celebration in the evening."

Aurora was at a loss for words. She hadn’t intended to return to this city on Sunday but planned to stay for about a week before her internship began.

Returning to this vast, empty house and living alone was not a wise choice for her. She could not tolerate all the staff here watching her every move.

Moreover, she knew that this residence was equipped with CCTVs that monitored her movements around the residence.

"Alright, it’s clear now. After visiting your parents’ graves, you will return to the city and then go to grandpa’s birthday party in the evening," Alex stated, getting ready to rise as a signal that their discussion was over.

However, Aurora disagreed with his idea. ’Gosh, how could he come to that conclusion?’ she silently scolded him, glaring at him sharply.

"Hold on, Alex..." She stopped him.

"Do you have anything else to add?" Alex inquired, resuming his seat as he felt the girl’s intense gaze on him.

"Sorry, Alex, I won’t be back on Sunday. It’s been a while since I visited Opal City, and there’s so much I want to do before my internship begins." She spoke calmly, though her hand was tightly clenched, hoping he would agree quickly.

"That’s okay. You can go there afterward and stay for as long as you’d like..." Alex remarked nonchalantly. Yet, Aurora sensed that her refusal wasn’t accepted.

"I already purchased a plane ticket. That would be a waste of money." She kept trying to turn him down.

Alex laughed softly and shook his head, curious if she was just trying to make excuses to avoid meeting his family.

"Aurora, I can return your money! And stop worrying about a flight; you only need to hop on my private jet. I have a couple of jets sitting idle in the hangar for you to choose..."

Aurora, "..."

’Rory! Stop it. You have no choice,’ she said, surrendering in her heart. She could only nod slowly in response to Alex.

"What time do you plan to depart tomorrow?"

"Nine."

"Tomorrow, Josh will handle your trip. Just be ready at nine," Alex said as he walked away, heading to his room.

Aurora could only smile bitterly, watching him enter his bedroom.
