Chapter 148: I Know It Was You, Rory!

Max sat beside David, rendered speechless.

He shook his head as a cold smile emerged on his lips before responding, "Sister Rena, you hurt my feelings. Seriously, am I not allowed to come here?"

Aurora stifled a smile at the sight of sulking Max. She remembered how Renata would always tease him during their encounters. Naturally, Max had never been fond of Renata; he favored her instead.

Renata laughed while waving her hand, trying to clarify, "Oh dear, Max, of course not. You are always welcome here, honey. But I’m just confused. How do you know Aurora?" she asked while looking at Aurora and Max in turn.

Max was reluctant to answer Renata. He smiled a little while looking away at the glass of water in his hand.

Aurora had no choice but to respond to Renata, "Sis, we share the same class. Plus, he’s also part of the internship program at Stardust Tech."

"Wow! I’m stunned! I never knew that before!" Renata smiled wider before continuing, "Aurora, you know that Max is Danny’s younger brother, right?" she asked to make sure.

Renata still couldn’t move on from her shock; how could Aurora also have a connection with Max?

"Hmm, sure. I know..." Aurora attempted to stay calm, even though it was pretty challenging, with Renata looking at her like she could see right through her thoughts.

"Wow, Aurora... you know Max’s brother too? Why didn’t you ever mention it?" David, who had been observing their conversation, suddenly interjected.

Aurora smiled at his question but didn’t say a word; she simply shrugged her shoulders slightly.

Still curious for an answer, David asked Josh, standing beside him, "Josh, did you know about that?"

Just like Aurora, Josh simply didn’t want to answer him. Still, he said, "Yes, I know."

David was rendered speechless. These two puzzled him, especially since they left the company. It seems they might be withholding some vital information from him.

Taking a deep sigh, David glanced at Max.

"Max, are you also aware?" David was curious how Aurora knew Max’s brother and how Aurora could befriend this beautiful woman, the restaurant’s owner.

...

Aurora ignored David’s curious gaze.

After they placed their order, she earnestly conversed with Renata, who shared many things about her recent life.

Renata also shared about Danny, who seems busy and doesn’t visit her on Friday nights as he usually does.

"Where is he?" Aurora whispered loud enough for Renata to hear her, as she didn’t want the three men sitting opposite them to hear.

"I don’t know..." Renata shrugged. "Well, I lost contact with him, but the last I heard, he was handling a case in another city and never called me again. It bothers me if he’s in serious mode like that."

Aurora chuckled at Renata’s annoyance.

"Sis Rena, Danny might be busy. You know how focused he can be, right? He never allows personal matters to interfere with his work." Aurora responded playfully, a slight smile appearing as she reminisced about Danny from her previous life.

Renata was taken aback by Aurora’s response.

For a brief moment, she gazed at Aurora with a puzzled expression. Still, she quickly returned to her usual demeanor before Aurora could see her confusion.

Renata didn’t know, but she felt the woman beside her sounded like her best friend, Aurora Moon. They were simply similar—she could talk calmly and always remained positive.

She set aside her confusion and smiled at Aurora. "Well, yeah, I know. I just feel lonely here. That’s why I reached out to you today. Thank you, Aurora. It would be... well, it would be even more enjoyable if you could come by on Friday."

Aurora was taken aback. She didn’t know if she could escape from Alex on Friday night.

However, when she looked into Renata’s puppy eyes, pleading with her, she felt guilty for refusing her.

"I will try to make it Friday night, sis..." she said helplessly, patting Renata’s hand.

"Wow! Thanks, Aurora. You’re amazing..." Renata laughed as they continued to chat about various topics.

Not long after, the waitress started to serve their order.

Aurora beamed as she gazed at her favorite rib-eye steak being served. This place was the only one that could prepare the steak just how she liked.

"Let’s eat, everyone! We are running out of time..." Aurora said, glancing at her friends with a smile before turning her full attention to her lunch.

She can’t remain here much longer; they must return to the office.

...

After finishing her lunch, Aurora left them to go to the bathroom.

When she emerged a moment later, she was surprised to find Renata waiting in front of the door, blocking her way.

"Huh!? Sis Rena, queueing for the bathroom, I see?" She smiled while stepping aside to let her enter, but Renata didn’t move; she just stared at her with a blank gaze.

Aurora felt startled as she noticed the doubts, confusion, and fear reflected in Renata’s eyes. This expression was familiar; she had seen it when she first entered this restaurant.

"Sis Renata, would you mind stepping aside? I must go now, or my boss will scold me. You wouldn’t want my boss to scold me, would you?" Aurora asked calmly, even though she could feel the nervousness fluttering in her stomach.

"Aurora, I’m sorry, but we need to talk!" Renata gently grasped her wrist and led her to the office behind the kitchen.

"What? Is there something wrong? Are you in trouble, sis?" Aurora asked with a relaxed tone, though she already suspected what was coming next. Renata was probably once again uncertain about her identity as Aurora Moon.

After entering the small yet modern and clean-looking office, Renata guided her to sit on the sofa before joining her across from it.

They sat silently for a few seconds, but Renata didn’t say anything; she only stared at her, causing Aurora to feel like her mind was being scanned.

"What is it, sis? You confused and scared me right now..." Aurora asked once more, pressing her to speak now.

Renata blinked a few times, her voice trembling as she softly said, "I know it was you, Rory! Please, please, tell me it was you, huh!?"
