Chapter 142: He Was Exhausted

Alex smirked when he heard that.

’Seriously, do I look different?’ Alex asked himself, puzzled by his emotions. However, he knew he would undoubtedly feel angry and concerned if something happened to her.

"Congratulations, man! I’m sincerely happy for you. You’ve truly found your soulmate!"

A slight smile appeared on Alex’s lips upon hearing Patrick’s sincere words. He replied, "Thanks! Alright, I need to go now. My wife is waiting for me..."

Alex ended the call and rushed to the main bedroom.

...

A few minutes earlier.

Aurora checked her cell phone as soon as the bedroom door closed.

When Aurora saw the picture, she felt relieved. Even her gray hair was hidden because she wore a cap to cover it, tied it back, and tucked it under her coat.

"Huh!? Did someone erase the picture?" she murmured, Patrick’s face suddenly appearing in her mind. "It has to be him, doesn’t it? He must be the one who did it."

Aurora tossed her phone onto the bed before hurrying to the bathroom.

She needed to freshen up before Alex returned, and she felt anxious that he might enter while she was showered.

After shutting the bathroom door, she locked it.

’Geez, Rory! What the hell are you thinking? Why would he want to join you in the shower?’

She smiled widely before removing her clothes and stepping into the shower. She didn’t linger in the shower for too long.

After feeling refreshed, she stepped out and paused to admire her naked body in the mirror for a while, appreciating how much younger her entire body appeared in this second life.

Even though she felt confident and beautiful in her previous life, being this young, like now, also made her feel extremely grateful.

Hurriedly, she put on her nightgown and exited the bathroom.

Aurora was startled to nearly collide with Alex’s solid pecs as he stood right by the bathroom door.

"A-Alex, why are you standing here? And for how long have you been?" She looked up to meet his gaze, surprised to notice the disappointment clearly reflected in his eyes.

Instead of responding to Aurora, Alex asked, "Why did you lock the bathroom door?"

Alex had been eager to enter the bathroom and accompany her earlier, but he was too stunned to discover that the door was locked.

Aurora was left speechless. She initially believed this man needed to use the bathroom, but it turned out that he did not.

Her guess was correct. He might have attempted to join her in the bathroom, just as she had envisioned before—showering together.

Instantly, she felt her heart race, and her blood warmed in her veins as she imagined them sharing the shower, helping each other clean up, or doing other things her lewd mind could envision.

’What the hell, Rory! You are so lewd! Geez, you better stop, or you might not stop yourself from surrendering to him,’ Aurora scolded herself. She slowly shook her head and cleared her throat.

"Because I don’t want you to go into the bathroom, and you know we will end up doing something... we wanted to do, right?" She felt the urge to respond like that, but naturally held back.

Aurora smiled calmly at him before randomly answering, "That’s my habit of locking the door behind me. For safety." She hurriedly continued when she saw him roll his eyes, "Alright, Alex. You’d better go clean up now. I will prepare your pajamas."

Aurora went to the walk-in closet, trying to avoid his curious gaze. Yet, she couldn’t help but notice him still standing there, looking at her with a hint of helplessness.

She gently encouraged him, "Hurry, Alex. I’m so tired and need to sleep now."

A faint smile appeared on her lips when she finally saw him enter the bathroom and close the door.

...

All night, nothing happened.

Alex was either too tired after his long-distance flight or still sulky about the bathroom lock incident.

After she pretended to be asleep and waited a few more minutes, he did nothing; instead, she heard a rare, soft snore escape his lips.

She felt relieved but also sorry for him—he must be exhausted!

’Good night, Alex...’ Aurora whispered, then fell asleep too.

...

By the time Aurora woke up, the sky was still dark. She tried not to move too much, fearing he might wake up. She got out of bed and headed to the kitchen.

She needed to ask the chef to prepare a comforting meal for Alex, such as ginseng soup or something warm for his breakfast to boost his stamina.

"Good morning, Ma’am..." Martin, who had just come out of the kitchen, was shocked to see Aurora walk toward him.

Hurriedly, he turned off the light to ensure that what he saw was indeed Aurora, not a ghost.

As Martin recognized Aurora, a wave of relief enveloped him. "Is there anything you need, Ma’am? I’d be happy to help you," he offered kindly.

"Morning, Martin..." Aurora paused her step and smiled, noticing his surprised expression. "I just wanted to ask the chef to prepare chicken ginseng for Alex."

Hearing her words instantly made him feel like he was experiencing déjà vu. Someone in the past always asked him or the chef to prepare chicken ginseng whenever Alex was about to catch a cold or felt unwell.

Martin’s hand clenched tightly as he tried to suppress his shock.

He calmly asked, "Ma’am, did Master Alex catch a cold? Why does he suddenly want to eat soup for breakfast?"

"No, he’s okay. He just looked a bit tired. I think his business trip has exhausted him..." Aurora said, glancing at the clock.

This is so early; it’s not even five yet. She needs to return to bed and get more sleep, too.

"I will ask the chef to prepare it for him now. Is there anything you want to add?" Martin asked again. He still tried to put aside the confusion in his heart and mind now because he felt like he was talking to his late friend, Aurora Moon!

"Hmm...I suppose that’s all," Aurora replied before heading back upstairs.

When Aurora entered the bedroom, she saw that Alex was still asleep.

She yawned slightly and joined him under the blanket.

However, just a few minutes later, Alex’s hand landed on her waist, pulling her toward him and trapping her between his arms.
