Chapter 290 -287: Something’s Wrong With the Style of This Castle!
They bent their bodies, their legs pushing powerfully, like swift Cheetahs leaping over the fence in a bound.
Thud.
Their feet landed on the soft, muddy ground, and they moved quickly forward.
Apart from the gravel-laden path in front of the main Gate, the garden had no streetlights elsewhere, and the darkness served as their best Protection.
Black Snake took the lead, his legs maintaining a rhythm as he ran, “Do you see that window? We’re going to enter the castle through there.”
As he spoke, Black Snake suddenly felt a heaviness in his body, as though his legs were tied with a considerable amount of weight.
He looked down, and with the help of moonlight, saw many vines wrapping around his legs.
‘Did I run too fast and accidentally get entangled? There are simply too many plants here…’ Black Snake thought, only to widen his eyes in the next moment.
He clearly had slowed his pace, intending to break free, but saw the vines actively crawling towards him; all around him, accompanied by rustling sounds, the vines within a few meters seemed to come alive, aggressively closing in.
“Be careful, something’s wrong here!” he roared in a low voice, and instantly his Combat Saber was in hand, slashing and tearing a large swath of vines to escape, “Get out of here quickly.”
He saw with his own eyes, further away, flowers and plants began to move; some flower buds opened entirely, resembling man-eating plants, while others, vines entwined together like whips, lashed out through the air.
This garden was too sinister, a chill ran down Black Snake’s spine as he had no idea what kind of plants the owner of Green Shadow had cultivated here; his only thought now was to leave quickly.
Black Snake’s saber rose and fell, his movements rapid, and he increased his sprinting speed once again—he could no longer care about the noise he made.
Several team members appeared even more panicked; those armed with swords were somewhat better off, all using rune weapons purchased from Green Shadow that could sever the vines, but there was an Awakener holding a spear, both his feet and hands bound by the vines, desperately struggling with the spear in his hands, looking utterly hopeless.
“Help, help me!”

“Don’t, don’t come over here.”
“That way is no good—”
“Ahh—”
The piercing screams made Black Snake dare not look back, as he frantically swung his Combat Saber, charging forward until he finally jumped into the castle through an open window.
Soon, two more team members came through the window, gasping for air, still unsettled, until they turned back to see the flowerbed, now looking aggressive and threatening but unable to reach them due to the confines of the soil, and finally they let out sighs of relief.
“Unicorn, and Mountain Chicken… Are there only the two of you left?” Black Snake looked out the window to see two mounds rising in the distant garden.
If the one ensnared had been him…
Black Snake shuddered.
The other two clung tightly to themselves, the Awakener with a bird poised for flight tattooed on his arm muttered, “I’m not called Mountain Chicken, my name is Eagle… Boss Black Snake, how did we end up running into the castle?”
Only now did Black Snake have the opportunity to survey the surroundings.
They were in a passageway of the castle, with the walls on both sides embedded with crystal lamps that illuminated the corridor. It was very quiet here, and apart from the continuing rustling sounds from outside, there was nothing else, including those two companions left in the garden…they were probably now fertilizer for the plants.
He hesitated for a moment.
This window was one he had picked out early on. As soon as he detected danger, he ran instinctively in this direction, forgetting that running outside would actually have been a bit closer.
Seeing their leader taking decisive action without hesitation, Unicorn and Mountain Chicken immediately followed suit.
Black Snake certainly wouldn’t admit this was his mistake. After pondering for a moment, he spoke up, “Have you guys noticed that we’ve caused quite a stir in the garden, and I faintly heard screams coming from the other side of the castle just now. That group of people must have encountered the same thing as us.”
“But even so, no guards have appeared from the castle, which indicates what…”
Initially just looking for an excuse, the more he talked, the brighter Black Snake’s eyes became, shining as if they’d been washed with Rejoice shampoo. His whole demeanor grew confident:
“It suggests that there are very few guards inside the castle, or perhaps none at all. Think about it, the residents of the castle are the high-ranking members of the Sanctuary of Green Shadow. Those people are strong in their own right and don’t need guards on a day-to-day basis. Besides, the castle is surrounded by the terrifying Cannibal Garden, which turns any ordinary intruders into fertilizer. If our strength wasn’t sufficient, we’d be no different right now.”
“But similarly, since we’ve made it through the most dangerous garden and into the castle, it means our upcoming actions should be much safer.”
Black Snake revealed his standard eight teeth in a grin.
Unicorn and Mountain Chicken both nodded in agreement, but deep down, they felt something wasn’t quite right.
…
After entering the castle through a window, the straight hallway was even longer than they had imagined. Unicorn grew uneasy, “Boss Black Snake, we’ve been walking for so long, how come we haven’t seen a single room?”
“Don’t panic.” Black Snake appeared calm, “The fact that we haven’t encountered any castle guards is the best scenario. As for the rest… the castle is only so big. As long as we keep searching, we’re bound to find valuable clues.”
Several minutes later, there was finally a change up ahead.
They entered a spacious hall with brilliantly ornate chandeliers hanging from above, a red carpet on the floor, and several lifelike statues standing on both sides of the carpet.
Black Snake smiled, “See, there’s a change already. No guards even in the hall. It looks like our operation tonight is going smoothly.”
They walked over the red carpet, and Mountain Chicken glanced at the statues on either side, admiringly remarking, “Who would have thought the castle owner had such taste? These statues are very realistic, but I can’t make sense of these animals on top; so many strange shapes…”
Unicorn clicked his tongue disdainfully, “However pretty they are, they’re just decorations.” He gestured with the Combat Saber in his hand, “Power is what rules. What’s there to look at with these broken stones? If it weren’t to avoid unnecessary complications, I could easily chop these stone carvings into—”
He had not yet finished saying the words “tiny pieces.”
Suddenly, Unicorn’s hair stood on end as he thought he saw the Mutant Beast statue’s eyes look his way.
Surely it was an illusion from being in enemy territory… Bullshit!
The Two-headed Dog statue next to it suddenly turned one of its heads around. All four eyes were staring intently at him, with its previously sealed mouth now open, revealing sharp teeth.
The statues had come to life!
…
Minutes later, Black Snake, Unicorn, and Mountain Chicken were sprinting down another narrow corridor.
By this time, Mountain Chicken’s chicken-headed arm was nowhere to be seen, and blood dripped incessantly. His whole face twisted in pain.
Unicorn too had suffered no light injuries; his body was scorched black, turning him into a Black-skinned Unicorn, only Black Snake was in a relatively good state.
However, his morale had collapsed.
He couldn’t maintain his composed facade any longer.
Walking past a garden, the plants come to life.
Walking past statues, the statues come to life!
This was clearly a spy infiltration mission.
But for god’s sake, when did it turn into a fantasy setting!
Even though Black Snake had been prepared to enact the Unrivaled Creed should they be discovered by guards, these stone carvings… they couldn’t be beaten!
