Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 387: [Judge Hotel Incident Sniper Attack]
Monday, 9 AM, 11th floor of a hotel, Room 1196.
This room is a common suite in the Federation Hotel, with two LAPD officers standing at the suite's entrance, while several FBI forensic agents are working inside.
On the large bed in the bedroom, lies the unclothed corpse of a middle-aged Caucasian, dead from a bullet wound through the head.
The amount of blood on the bed isn't excessive, however, there are numerous yellow and white substances on the bedsheets, creating a visually striking impact.
Not far from the bed, by the glass window, there is a clear bullet hole. Forensic agents swiftly determine the shooter's location using technical methods: the 14th floor of the high-rise office building diagonally across from the hotel.
Inside the bedroom, forensic agents methodically process the scene, while the living room corner outside remains eerily quiet.
After listening to Spencer's narrative, even Reesi, who was born and raised in the Federation, found the information overwhelming, and Luo An felt deeply moved, praising the Federation as the world's beacon, being so far ahead of other countries since the 2005 edition.
Initially, Luo An suspected Spencer's true identity was that of a pimp, and Samia was merely one of his girls.
However, a phone call to Mona confirmed that Spencer's identity was that of an ordinary office worker, who went to church every week, had saved up some money, and even booked a wedding hall with Samia a year in advance without any issues.
After hanging up, Luo An looked at Spencer with respect.
Unable to get any leads from Spencer, Luo An turned his gaze towards Samia, who had witnessed everything at last night's crime scene and clearly distinguished between her personal and professional life.
"I was shocked!"
Responding to Luo An's questions, Samia took a tissue from Spencer, adjusted her emotions, and then replied:
"Taylor was a regular client of mine, he called me yesterday afternoon and arranged this room and time.
After arriving here, we both drank a little wine to set the mood, and then…"
"Hold on a moment, Samia."
Luo An quickly interrupted Samia's detailed description of last night's experience, not from embarrassment, but rather because Spencer, her boyfriend, was sitting nearby, indifferently listening, which was a bit too much to handle visually.
Luo An wasn't up to date with such situations, so he said:
"Samia, just describe the moment of the incident, directly.
Also, how was the victim, Taylor Davis, feeling today? Did he exhibit any unusual behaviors?"
"At the time of the incident, I was underneath, still not reacting when I heard the sound of breaking glass, then I found Taylor motionless."
Samia continued, saying that she was so scared that she immediately ran and ducked behind the bed on the floor, panicked, she first called Spencer downstairs for help, and he dialed the police for her.
Regarding Luo An's latter two questions, Samia mentioned that Taylor Davis acted no different than usual, didn't talk about work, and even his entire process and posture were exactly the same as always, completely unoriginal.
Both Spencer and Samia showed a hint of contempt.
"…OK, thank you."
Luo An slightly twitched his mouth, nodded, and left the living room with Reesi, as the waiting LAPD escorted them away from the scene.
Samia, after all, was involved in work that assisted others physically, while her calling the police was commendable and could exempt her from jail, she still had to pay a fine.
"Samia and Spencer likely have nothing to do with this case."
Just as amazed, Reesi shook her phone and said:
"Michelle found the surveillance video from the hotel entrance at the time of the incident, Spencer was indeed waiting in the car, and he never got out." novelbuddy.cσ๓
Luo An rubbed his temples with a complex expression.
It wasn't because he was worried about not getting any clues, but the fact that Spencer and Samia treated such events as a normal "job", and their approach to separating personal life from work reflected an advanced sense of values; Luo An admitted he was a bit outdated and needed a moment to adjust.
"Group Leader Greenwood."
At this moment, a forensic agent approached, holding a transparent bag containing a bullet stained with copious amounts of red and white.
"This is the murder weapon we found in the bedroom."
Luo An took the bullet handed to him and frowned slightly:
"This is a .338 Lapua Magnum bullet."
"Correct."
The forensic investigator nodded:
"The most common type of sniper bullet on the market, compatible with many sniper rifles."
Luo An handed the transparent bag back to the forensic investigator, Reesi glanced at the distant buildings and asked:
"Have you inspected the sniper's position?"
"My two colleagues have been there."
The forensic investigator replied:
"Based on the sniper rifle trajectory analysis, my colleagues determined the sniper's position to be on the 14th floor's stairwell corner of that office building.
Unfortunately, there are no surveillance cameras there, the killer fired one shot and collected the bullet casings, nothing was found at the scene."
"Thank you, hard work, please inform us promptly when the bullet trajectory report is complete."
"OK, no problem."
With no useful findings at the crime scene, Luo An and Reesi headed to the office building across the hotel, scouted around where the gunman shot from, found nothing useful, and drove back to the Special Investigation Team.
"Can the two beautiful ladies tell me any good news?"
Pushing open the door of the Special Investigation Team, Luo An looked at Mona and Michelle with a smile and said:
"Lack of harvest this time with Reesi... but gained some insight."
"Gained insight? What does that mean?"
Mona casually asked, then moved her chair back one step, while looking at the computer she continued:
"Judge Taylor Davis's personal financial condition is good, family economics are also stable, among the loans the couple had, aside from the student loan, car loan and mortgage were all paid off a year ago, now their account is emptier than mine."
"Indeed, even for a judge, it's not easy to pay off student loans quickly."
Reesi picked up her coffee and took a sip, out of speechless complaint, she too was burdened with unfinished student loans.
Beside her, Michelle continued:
"Judge Taylor Davis's son is still in school, his wife will be arriving here soon, she has been in Texas on a business trip for a while."
Luo An walked over to Michelle, bent down to look at the photo of Taylor Davis's wife on the computer, the woman was a middle-aged Caucasian wearing glasses with a graceful demeanor, her name was Heather, Luo An asked:
"How likely is this case related to Heather? Crimes of passion? Jealousy? Revenge?"
"I don't know, but chances seem not high."
Mona pulled up Heather's personal information, spending records, and travel records of the last year on her computer desktop, and said:
"Heather has been traveling to Texas for business frequently in the past year, staying in hotels many times, often with other men in the same room.
However, there is no record of her having conflicts or arguments with Taylor in the records, I suspect they might be in an open marriage, each doing their own thing."
"…six."
Luo An, a few steps slower in grasping the developments, was somewhat speechless, swallowing the desire to retort, he continued asking:
"How about the work aspect of Judge Taylor Davis? Has he recently committed any wrongs against someone, or had conflicts with anyone?"
