Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 378: Battle Inside the Factory, Extra Gains
The moment she saw the bald Caucasian man raise his pistol, Chenier, already shifted behind another side of the movie props, had her pupils shrink rapidly.
Their pistols had been taken earlier by the underlings of the bald Caucasian man and were placed on a wooden box not too far away.
Chenier had intended to swiftly move from behind the movie props to retrieve the pistols to counterattack the bald Caucasian man, but a bullet hitting her right foot slowed her actions.
Now, as the opponent aimed the pistol at Cooper, Chenier immediately stopped moving, grabbed a plate-like prop from beside her, and hurled it with all her strength at the bald Caucasian man.
At the same moment, Cooper, seeing the bald Caucasian man raising the pistol to attack him, had a glint of cold light flash across his eyes. With his hands tied and hanging, he suddenly leaped, kicked up his leg with all his might towards the bald Caucasian man.
Snap—
The plate thrown by Chenier successfully struck the bald Caucasian man, causing his actions to pause.
Cooper's kicking motion was blocked by the hand of the bald Caucasian man. Even though it forced him to retreat a few steps, he did not fall, and the pistol was still aimed at Cooper's chest.
The bald Caucasian man sneered coldly, and amid Cooper's deeply furrowed brows and Chenier's furious gaze, he pulled the trigger.
Bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bang!
Several gunshots echoed through the central warehouse; the next second, Cooper fell to the ground on his buttocks, unharmed by the bullets.
The bald Caucasian man, under Chenier's surprised gaze, bled, his face confused as he heavily fell sideways to the ground.
Looking at the fallen bald Caucasian man, Cooper picked up the pistol that had dropped to the ground, quickly glanced in the direction from where the gunshots came.
Chenier also directed her gaze towards the source of the gunshots, what entered their sight were Luo An, Winslow, and Anwar.
Luo An was still holding the pistol; it was clear that he was the one who had fired the shots.
Unlike Channie and Cooper, who had not seen clearly what had just happened, Winslow and Anwar had been right beside Luo An and had a clear view of every movement he made.
When the three arrived at the scene, they saw the bald Caucasian man about to pull the trigger; Winslow and Anwar were ready to subdue the Caucasian man, but Luo An had already pulled the trigger before them.
Luo An fired four consecutive shots. One bullet successfully broke the rope binding Cooper's hands, causing Cooper to fall seated on the ground.
The other three bullets hit the Caucasian man's gun-holding right hand, left arm, and left leg respectively, causing the bald Caucasian man to miss his shot and then heavily fall sideways to the ground.
Luo An's precise marksmanship and quick reflexes left Winslow with disbelief and Anwar gasping in awe.
However, now was not the time to ask Luo An how he had honed his skills to such an extent. Winslow and Anwar, rich in tactical acumen, suppressed their astonishment, quickly approached the Caucasian man, pulled out handcuffs, and restrained him.
Luo An nodded in approval at the actions of Winslow and Anwar, put away his pistol, and looked at Cooper and Chenier, asking:
"Are you guys alright?"
Cooper swiftly got up from the ground, shook his head in thanks, and said:
"I'm fine, thank you, Group Leader Luo An."
"Hmm."
Luo An casually responded and immediately looked towards Chenier. Upon knowing that she had been shot in the right foot, he promptly called SWAT team members to stem her bleeding, and together with the bald Caucasian man, carried her onto an ambulance for hospitalization, assigning Reesi to accompany her with a gun.
Five minutes later, after everything inside the warehouse was processed, SWAT team members escorted a group of people onto a vehicle. Luo An, with his arms crossed, leaned against a new model SUV watching this scene, saw Cooper tidying up and walking over, he directly asked:
"What exactly happened today?"
"This serial murder case, Chenier and I have found that the doctor we investigated definitely knows some insider information!"
Upon hearing Luo An's question, Cooper immediately frowned and explained the details of the incident.
Nicki, as a respiratory stimulant used in clinics, generally does not fluctuate too much in the amount used by hospitals each month.
However, in this hospital in the West District of Los Angeles, the usage of Nicki in the past three months has indeed not shown significant fluctuations, but some parts of the usage records are far more vague than before.
Cooper and Chenier immediately realized the problem and started investigating. When they received the call from Luo An to return to the Special Investigation Team, they had already identified three suspects directly related to Nicki.
"One of them is a doctor named Nicki, who was full of lies when facing me and Chenier."
Cooper indicated that he and Chenier have received internal FBI training and know some routine methods to identify whether someone is lying, then he continued:
"Chenier and I, while questioning the second suspect, saw Nicki running down the stairs and driving away, so we immediately drove after him."
After entering the alley, the situation was just as Winslow and Anwar had guessed. Just as they were about to catch Nicki, a group of gunmen emerged from the sewer and surrounded them, and being outnumbered, they were captured.
Cooper didn't see Channie throw her phone, so he didn't mention that event. Luo An's eyebrows moved slightly upon hearing this and he continued to ask:
"What's the identity of the bald man and this group of people?"
Before Cooper could answer, Winslow and Anwar came over holding several transparent bags filled with green clusters.
Handing over the bags to Luo An, Anwar grinned and said:
"We found these in a few small movie props, and just now we dismantled some large movie props and found a large quantity of OxyContin, a lot of drugs similar to hydrocodone."
Looking at the marijuana leaf clusters in his hand and hearing Anwar's words, Luo An was speechless.
If he wasn't mistaken, they seem to have found a criminal group using movie props as a disguise, secretly smuggling large amounts of addictive drugs.
Across the federation, the misuse of addictive opioids by doctors has been going on for more than a day or two, and many patients who have been taking these drugs for years have only two choices after becoming addicted: continue using the same class of drugs, or use something even more addicting, like white powder or white rock candy.
The federation is a free capitalist country; where there's demand, there will naturally be supply, smuggling opioids, even compared with smuggling white powder, is also a highly profitable blue ocean industry.
"There's also an unexpected gain."
Handing back the transparent bags to Anwar, Luo An called Michelle to have her and the Evidence Examination Team agents come to the site. This large batch of goods was valuable, and the Special Investigation Team could gain a lot of additional benefits afterwards.
"No problem."
Michelle had just nodded in agreement when suddenly a voice from Mona came over the phone:
"Luo An, Reesi asked me earlier to check on the doctor named Nicki, and I found that he has significant issues."
Luo An was not surprised by this, since the bald man and his group were involved in drug smuggling; it was only natural that Nicki, the doctor clearly connected to the bald man, had financial issues.
"No, I'm not talking about that."
Mona shook her head over the phone and explained:
"In Nicki's spending records for the past three months, I found that he purchased disinfectants containing sodium hypochlorite many times.
But in the surveillance of Nicki's residential community, I've never seen him bringing disinfectant home even once; that's strange, isn't it?"
Luo An's lips curled up at this, and he immediately took Cooper's phone to call Reesi:
"Reesi, the doctor I asked you to arrest earlier, where is he now?"
