Chapter 90: Unexpected Delights ( 90 )
"Found it!!"
Hazuki shouted as he burst through the trees, eyes widening at the sight before him.
A vast, shimmering lake stretched out before him, surrounded by the dense forest. The crystal-clear water sparkled under the sunlight, reflecting the sky like a giant sapphire. The gentle rustling of trees and the occasional chirping of birds made the place feel oddly... peaceful.
"Alright! Now where’s that cave!?"
His excitement flared again as he scanned his surroundings, his eyes darting from one rock formation to another. He stomped around, peering behind bushes, kicking random stones, even squinting at tree roots—as if the cave would suddenly pop out and introduce itself.
"Cave, cave, cave—where the hell is the damn cave!?"
He stopped and turned his gaze back to the lake.
"...Whoa."
For a moment, all thoughts of treasure vanished. The water was unbelievably clear, so pristine that he could see fish swimming lazily beneath the surface. The sunlight danced across the ripples, making the entire lake look almost... magical.
Hazuki folded his arms and nodded. "Damn... this place is gorgeous."
Then he smacked his own cheeks.
"Oi! Now’s not the time to admire the scenery! Get it together, man!"
He shook his head violently, snapping himself out of it. His treasure-obsessed brain reactivated at full power.
"TREASURE!! I’M COMING!!"
With a mad grin, he resumed his frantic search, running along the lake’s edge, checking every suspicious rock and crevice, determined to find his cave—his treasure!
After several hours of walking around the lake...
"Damn! I’m tired! Where the hell is this damn cave!?"
Hazuki groaned, dragging his feet before finally plopping down onto the ground with a defeated sigh. His dream of treasure was starting to feel like a cruel joke.
He stared at the lake, watching the gentle ripples form as a few fish swam near the shore.
Then an idea popped into his head.
"Oho~"
A mischievous grin spread across his face as he slowly unsheathed his sword and pointed it at the water. His eyes locked onto a fish.
"Steady..."
He held his breath.
Stab!
Splash!
"YEAH! Got one!" Hazuki cheered, lifting the fish triumphantly.
"Hehehe... alright, let’s get another one!"
His treasure hunt was completely forgotten as he got lost in the thrill of fishing with a sword.
Stab!
"Another one!"
Stab!
"Another one!"
For a moment, he was no longer an exhausted adventurer searching for a hidden cave. He was a proud fisherman... with a sword.
After gathering a few fish, he dusted off his hands and stood up.
"Alright, next step—wood, wood, wood~"
Humming a little tune, Hazuki wandered into the trees, gathering fallen branches and piling them up. Once satisfied, he crossed his arms and nodded.
"Perfect. Now to light it up."
He reached into his pockets.
Nothing.
His grin twitched.
"...Damn. Got no lighter."
For a second, he frowned. Then, his brain finally kicked in.
"Oh?"
A wicked smirk formed as he held his sword over the pile of wood.
Hazuki focused his mana.
The blade began to glow.
FWOOOOSH!
A burst of flames erupted, instantly setting the wood ablaze.
Hazuki threw his head back, laughing.
"Hell yeah!!"
Was he a treasure hunter? A fisherman? Or now a caveman discovering fire?
Who cared?
Right now, he was about to have a damn good meal.
"Time to cook the fish!"
Hazuki’s stomach growled, demanding a feast. He grinned, picking up one of the freshly caught fish.
"Yummy yum yum!"
Grabbing a washed wooden stick, he stabbed the fish through the belly and held it over the fire. The flames crackled, licking the fish’s skin as the delicious aroma of roasting meat filled the air.
Hazuki grinned wider.
"Oh yeah... this is gonna be good."
While waiting for the fish to cook, he turned to the lake, cupped his hands, and scooped up some water.
Gulp. Gulp.
He paused.
Then, he let out a long, satisfied sigh.
"Oh... refreshing!"
Not taking any chances, Hazuki grabbed his waterskin and filled it with the clear lake water. Who knew how long he’d be out here? Staying hydrated was important.
Though, if he really thought about it, was this water safe to drink?
...
"Whatever."
If it killed him, at least he’d die full.
After that, Hazuki sat impatiently in front of the fire, his eyes glued to the roasting fish.
"Is it done yet? Is it done yet?" he muttered, shifting closer, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.
After what felt like an eternity (but was probably just a few minutes), he snatched up one of the cooked fish, holding it close to his face.
He sniffed deeply.
"Hmmm... so... aromatic!"
His stomach rumbled louder in agreement.
Hazuki took a big bite.
Munch.
Then—
"OHHHHHH!!!"
His eyes widened in shock.
Sure, it had no salt, no seasoning, no fancy sauce—
BUT IT WAS STILL GOOD!
He chewed furiously, savoring the smoky, juicy taste.
Munch. Munch. Munch.
"Ohhhhh!!"
Without thinking, he grabbed another fish and devoured it.
Forget the treasure for a moment—this was pure bliss!
After the meal.
Burp.
Hazuki patted his stomach, a satisfied grin stretching across his face.
"Ehehe... that was some good food." He stretched his arms lazily. "Eating fresh fish while enjoying nature... man, this was totally worth it."
He leaned back, staring at the sky, feeling the cool breeze and the peaceful sounds of the forest.
"It’s almost like a treasure in itself..."
...
Treasure.
Treasure.
...TREASURE!?
Hazuki suddenly froze.
His eyes widened.
"CRAP!! I’M NOT HERE FOR A PICNIC!!"
He sprang to his feet, panic rushing through his veins.
"WHERE’S THE DAMN CAVE!?"
Hazuki froze mid-step. His eyes locked onto something in the distance—a dark opening nestled between the trees and rocky formations.
It looked just like...
A cave entrance.
His heart skipped a beat.
"THE CAVE!! YEAHHH!!!"
He jumped in excitement, punching the air like a lunatic.
But then... he suddenly tilted his head, confused.
"...Wait a second."
He scratched his cheek, frowning.
"I already checked that area before, but... I never saw that entrance..."
Hazuki squinted, suspicion creeping in.
Was it just hidden before? Or... did it just appear?
...
...Whatever.
He shrugged.
"HERE I COME, MY TREASURE!!"
Without a second thought, Hazuki rushed straight toward the cave, dreams of treasure filling his mind once again.
