ISEKAI? More like I See Crap!-Chapter 86: Finder’s Keepers ( )
Chapter 86: Finder’s Keepers ( 86 )
Hazuki walked through the Halfling town with his hands in his pockets, enjoying the calm atmosphere.
The town felt cozy. The houses were small and made for the Halfling people, and even the market stalls were a bit lower than usual.
As he looked around, he saw that he was the only human there. The rest were Halflings doing their everyday activities, along with a few Beastkin travelers passing by.
Hazuki stretched his arms behind his head.
"Man... this place is kinda nice." He nodded to himself. "Quiet, peaceful, and full of cute girls—wait, no, that’s not the point."
He shook his head to focus on what he needed to do.
"Alright, better find some clothes to buy."
His current outfit was old and smelled like a mix of sweat, ale, and grilled meat. Not exactly how a proper adventurer should look—not that he really was one.
Seeing a shop that looked like a tailor’s, Hazuki smiled and walked toward it.
"Let’s see what kind of style this town has to offer."
Once Hazuki got to the tailor shop, a cheerful Halfling woman behind the counter smiled at him.
"Oh, hello there, customer!"
Hazuki looked around the shop and saw different clothes for sale. Most were for Halflings and Beastkin.
"Hello there," Hazuki said, scratching his head. "You got clothes in my size?"
"Oh, for a human?" The tailor tilted her head. "We do have some, but the choices are limited. Humans don’t come by often, and when they do, most adventurers usually don’t buy clothes."
Hazuki shrugged. "That’s fine. I just need pants and a shirt. Two pairs. How much?"
The tailor smiled. "Two silver."
Hazuki almost choked. "What the—!? Expensive!"
The tailor crossed her arms. "That’s the normal price for new clothes."
"Yeah, normal for rich people..." Hazuki complained.
"So, do you want them or not?"
Hazuki frowned and looked at his pouch. He had just taken out three silver coins and was already regretting it.
"... Just give me one pair."
"Alright. One silver and twenty copper."
Hazuki’s eye twitched. "Are you trying to choke me to death!?"
The tailor raised an eyebrow. "Two pairs for two silver. One pair costs one silver, twenty copper. Take it or leave it, human."
Hazuki groaned and leaned forward. "... Fine. Just give me two pairs."
He reluctantly handed over the two silver coins, feeling sad about losing them.
The tailor smiled, handing him the clothes. "Thank you for your purchase, Mr. Adventurer. I hope they fit well."
Hazuki took the neatly folded clothes and sighed.
"Yeah, yeah... I hope they’re worth my hard-earned silver." He looked tiredly at the tailor before glancing at his last silver coin.
"Damn it... I just took out three silver, and now I’m already down to one."
The tailor chuckled. "That’s just how life works. If you don’t want to spend money, don’t wear clothes."
Hazuki rolled his eyes. "If I walk around town naked, I’ll get arrested."
The tailor laughed. "That’s true! Anyway, come again if you need more—and bring more silver next time!"
"Yeah, yeah..." Hazuki waved as he left the shop, grumbling to himself.
"Alright... next stop—food."
His stomach growled in agreement.
Hazuki stopped at a nearby stall, his stomach growling loudly.
He looked around and quickly noticed a problem—all the seats were too small, clearly made for Halfling-sized customers. Even if he tried to sit down, he’d probably look like an adult trying to fit into a child’s chair.
"...Yeah, that’s not happening," he muttered.
Shaking his head, he turned to the stall owner. "Let me have that roast meat."
The Halfling stall owner, a round man with a friendly smile, nodded. "Oh? How much do you want, adventurer?"
"Around 20 copper worth. And a drink. I’m starving."
As the stall owner began preparing the meal, Hazuki picked up one of the tiny chairs made for Halflings and put his newly bought clothes on it.
Without thinking twice, he sat down right on the cobblestone road.
The stall owner blinked. "Umm... customer... you really shouldn’t sit on the road. Even if it’s clean..."
"Nah, I’m comfortable like this." Hazuki waved him off, leaning back on his hands and stretching his legs. "Just focus on preparing my meal. I’m starving."
A few Halflings passing by stared and whispered to each other, some chuckling at the sight of a human adventurer sitting on the road like a lazy cat.
"Here you go, adventurer!"
Hazuki perked up as the stall owner placed a wooden plate with roasted meat and a mug of ale in front of him.
"Ahh~ finally!"
He took a big bite of the meat, and his face lit up instantly.
"Ohhh! This is good!"
Hazuki grabbed his mug and took a long drink of ale. Letting out a satisfied sigh, he leaned back, enjoying the simple pleasure of good food after a long journey.
"...Yup. This town’s not so bad."
He kept eating, completely ignoring the amused looks from Halflings passing by.
Hazuki sat cross-legged on the cobblestone road, munching on his roasted meat like he hadn’t eaten in days. His mug of ale was nearby, half-empty, as he enjoyed every bite.
While chewing, he heard a quiet conversation from a nearby table.
Two figures that looked like Halflings were whispering to each other.
Strangely, no one else seemed to notice them. The other Halflings around the stall were too busy eating and chatting.
But for some reason, Hazuki noticed them right away.
One of the small figures leaned in and said, "Hey, have you heard?"
The other took a sip of his drink. "Hmm?"
"There’s a cave near the lake."
"Oh, that story? Yeah, I heard about it."
"There’s talk about a treasure hidden inside."
The second one paused and raised an eyebrow. "Really?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Yeah... but for some reason, no one seems to know about it yet."
Hazuki froze mid-bite, his eyes shifting toward them.
Treasure?
His mind, which usually focused on complaints and feeling sorry for himself, suddenly sprang into action.
"You see here... I got the map to the cave."
The second figure’s eyes lit up with interest. "Really? That’s good to know."
Hazuki kept eating, pretending not to care, but his ears were listening closely. A cave? A treasure? A map? This could change everything for him.
Then, it happened.
As the two small figures stood up, one of them accidentally dropped the map while tucking it into their pocket. The small parchment floated down to the ground, completely unnoticed by them.
Hazuki’s eyes sharpened.
He didn’t move right away. Patience.
The two figures continued talking and walked away, blending into the crowd of Halflings.
Once he was sure they were far enough—
SWOOP!
Hazuki dove under the table, grabbing the map like a hungry rat going after a scrap of food.
He quickly shoved it into his pocket, grinning to himself.
"Heh. Finders keepers, losers weepers."
But what Hazuki failed to notice...
Was that no one else in the stall had reacted to the two figures at all.
As if they had never been there.
