Chapter 104: Shadows of Ambition ( 104 )
Meanwhile, deep within the grand marble halls of the Human Kingdom’s royal palace...
"WHAT?!"
King Aswand slammed the letter onto the table so hard that even the guards at the end of the hall flinched. His sharp voice echoed through the chamber like a crack of thunder.
"How dare that damn lion reject my marriage proposal!" he snarled, his eyes blazing. "Can’t he see what this union would bring? Peace! Power! A future for both kingdoms!"
He paced angrily, clenching his fists. "That stubborn beast! This alliance could’ve secured the border and strengthened both our kingdoms against outside threats. But nooo—he had to act like some arrogant mutt wagging his tail!"
He spun toward the royal table where his advisors stood in stiff silence. "Is this his way of provoking me? Does King Lioness want war!?"
One of the senior advisors, a calm and silver-bearded man, Halvon stepped forward and bowed politely. "Your Majesty, if I may," he began in a composed voice, "declaring war on the Beastkin Kingdom may not be wise at this time." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Aswand raised an eyebrow, his rage simmering just beneath the surface.
"Your Majesty, if I may..." the advisor continued in a measured tone. "We must be cautious. The Beastkin Kingdom is not one to be underestimated. Their military is vast and disciplined. Of the Seven Kingdoms, none rival their brute force. They command not only powerful warriors, but formidable divisions of battle mages, magic troops... and wyvern riders trained since birth."
Aswand turned sharply. "And you want me to do nothing?"
"Not at all, Your majesty. Only that we avoid rash decisions. A declaration of war now would draw attention from the other kingdoms. Especially with tensions already stirring across the borders. The Elves watch us. The Dwarves wait. And... there are still factions within our lands that are not yet ready to act openly."
Aswand narrowed his gaze, fingers curling into the edge of the marble railing.
"So... what then?" he growled. "We just sit here and let that damn Beastkin King mock us?"
The advisor smirked. "There are other ways to get what we want, Your Majesty. Shadows often achieve what swords cannot."
Aswand turned away, silent for a moment.
Then he clenched the crumpled letter in his hand and muttered darkly, "Fine! If they’re not willing to give Ellyna to me... then we’ll just have to take her—by force, if need be."
Halvon bowed slightly, his voice calm but laced with hidden weight. "Your Majesty, what we need now is patience. Let our summoned heroes grow stronger. Once they reach their full potential, we can devise a plan—one that ensures they’re ready to face whatever resistance comes our way."
Aswand slowly turned, interest flickering in his eyes. "Oh? Now that sounds promising."
Halvon nodded. "Among the Seven Kingdoms, only the Beastkin Kingdom has never summoned a hero from another world. Meanwhile, our Human Kingdom has successfully summoned five: Olivia, Mira, Luna, Emma, and Zenny. Each one holds unique power, blessed by the stars of another realm."
A smirk returned to Aswand’s face. "That makes us the strongest piece on the board."
But Halvon wasn’t done. "However, there is something else... according to the intelligence gathered from our informants within the Beastkin borders..." He paused, lifting a scroll. "Princess Ellyna has already formed a pinky promise oath—with someone."
The king froze. The air grew heavy.
"Damn it!! That means I can’t even touch her!" he barked, voice laced with frustration.
Halvon smiled faintly, eyes glinting behind his glasses. "Not entirely true, Your Majesty. The oath protects her only while the partner remains alive. If we can discover the identity of the one she made the promise with... and eliminate him quietly..."
He let the implication hang in the air.
"Then the sacred oath will dissolve. Ellyna will no longer be bound—and you, Your Majesty, may claim her without resistance."
Aswand’s gaze sharpened, a cruel edge forming. "Heh... excellent. And by the time the Beastkin Kingdom reacts, our summoned heroes will be ready to face them."
Halvon bowed once more. "Indeed, Your Majesty."
"But!!" Aswand clenched his fists. "I’m sure others want her too! She’s not just some noble girl—she’s Ellyna. Every damn royal in this continent would try to claim her once she’s unbound."
Halvon nodded slowly. "Yes, Your Majesty. Eliminating her partner doesn’t guarantee she will be yours. But..." He leaned in slightly, voice lower, darker. "If we ensure she’s taken—quietly, without resistance—before the oath is broken..."
Aswand narrowed his eyes. "You mean..."
"We capture her. Hold her somewhere discreet. She never needs to know who took her. Once her partner is gone and the pinky promise dissolves..." Halvon’s smile turned cold. "She’ll have nowhere else to turn. At that moment, she’ll belong to you, and no one will dare contest it."
Aswand let out a slow, dark chuckle. "Heh... Perfect. Prepare everything. I want that man found—and eliminated."
"Don’t worry, Your Majesty." Halvon bowed slightly, confidence in his voice. "I will personally ensure everything proceeds without a hitch. Our men will be on standby. Once Princess Ellyna steps beyond the safety of the royal castle—we’ll be ready to trail her."
Aswand leaned forward on his throne. "And when the opportunity presents itself...?"
"We move immediately," Halvon replied with a cold glint in his eye. "No delays, no mistakes."
"Good." The king nodded. "But what if other kingdoms catch wind of her value and send agents of their own?"
"Let them come," Halvon said without hesitation. "We will recruit only the best from our kingdom—seasoned adventurers, skilled trackers, and loyal agents. No one will match our speed or efficiency. The moment they hesitate, we will already have her."
Aswand grinned wickedly. "Excellent. Proceed, Halvon. I want everything in place. The next time she’s vulnerable—I want her in our grasp."
Inside Aswand’s mind...
Oh, my beautiful Ellyna...
That delicate skin... those eyes that shine with pride... that voice, stubborn yet sweet. I will tame you. I will make you mine.
You think a pinky promise will protect you forever? How foolish. Once that man is gone, once that fragile bond is shattered... you’ll have no shield. No escape.
A princess of the beastkin? Hah. Soon, you’ll be a queen in my chamber. You won’t even remember your homeland when I’m done. You’ll beg to stay by my side... whether your heart wants it or not.
A twisted grin crept across Aswand’s face, his fingers curling on the throne’s armrest.
Soon, Ellyna... very soon.
