Chapter 81: Rules of Engagement

Arc 2, Chapter 81 — Rules of Engagement

The arena...

What a wonderful place to be in right now.

It seemed alive with malice, its air thick with anticipation as weapons clashed.

The crowd, although not cheering, was caught in a web of bliss that seduced their hearts for more.

They found themselves entranced by the spectacle unfolding, making more and more mental notes of all attacks they’ve witnessed from both fighters.

They say there is Love in War.

Perhaps the battle was too thrilling, that it made many fall in love with chaos.

For one thing, Shugo kept repeating his undying love for Cerine.

Of course, he wasn’t serious... only referring to her battle prowess. He wanted to fight her... and Delweather as well. freeweɓnovel.cøm

But it wasn’t just Shugo, as a majority of the Bloodren 10s couldn’t help themselves now.

Watching the match made their intestines knot with desire. However, another thought lingered in their hearts.

"Instructor Winhest," one of the Bloodren 10’s murmured. "if I recall, killing others isn’t allowed... Is this the only exception?"

Killing? Just you?

Fufufufufu~

Winhest’s gaze was sharp, though his smile was broad. "No." he assured. "No one can kill another during the competitions, even if you wanted to."

Slowly, he gestured at the Host who was lazing about without a care in the world. "If he senses that an opponent will not be able to truly dodge a deadly attack, he’ll ensure the weakling’s safety...But..."

Winhest paused, his words both captivating and heavy. "Saving such a weakling will mean instant Loss for the weakling."

In a nutshell, the winner of the match will be his opponent. Of course, if one can dodge an attack, even by 5%, the host will not move.

In this arena, the Host’s lethargy belied his Omnipotence. His mere presence dictated the rules of engagement while on his Turf.

Winhest chuckled softly, letting them digest his words like the Gospel.

"Each battle is segmented for 15 minutes. After Which, the one with the least damage/injuries, will be the victor."

’I see.’ Levon made a mental note on the matter, his eyes still fixed on the combatants below.

In cases like these where the duo were equally strong and had little to no bruises, there are still many ways to judge who is stronger among the two.

Even the onlookers could tell that Cerine, although strong, was struggling against Delweather who was moving freely and with ease.

He met her strikes head-on with his synth—a clash of Titans that sent shockwaves rippling through the arena’s floors.

Their movements were a blur to the untrained eye, sparks flying as their weapons collided again and again in an orchestra of destruction.

With a roar that shook dust from the grounds, Delweather swung his synth upwards to meet her blow mid-air. The impact created an explosion of energy so intense it momentarily blinded everyone watching.

1...2... 3...

Time!

The host stretched lazily, stopping the match with an overly loud yawn that cut through all corners in the arena like a bullet.

Instantly, the Cerine and Delweather who were neck to neck in battle, seemed to turn into different versions of themselves.

Before Levon could blink, they stood calmly at the center of the arena, their composure unnerving as if they weren’t the ones who had their weapons flying about just now.

’So obedient?’ Levon raised a brow at the self control it took for the duo to reign their killing intent in.

Winhest chuckled darkly. "When the host commands, you obey."

When it’s time to stop, it’s time to STOP. Even if you’re floating mood-air, freeze yourself and regain sanity from your immersion.

In the end, it is not obedience that caused these 2 to stop fighting, but rather...

"Alright, alright," The host spoke, stretching and cracking his tired bones. "It’s finally over.

Time to decide a victor.

Was the host satisfied with their match just now? Was he thrilled? Was he NOT dissatisfied? No one could tell. His eyes were like that of a dead fish’s.

The Host scrutinized the combatants with gazes devoid of emotions.

Both of them had no slash marks on their clothing, and their breathing was still very calm and unhurried.

What was fascinating was that their hairdos were still flawlessly in place.

However, Celine was missing a button on her upper chest area, and her shoes had quite a lot more marks too.

The farm boy–Delweather– had been fighting barefoot all this while and didn’t have so much as a cut on his exposed feet and shin.

His uniform pants were still rolled up as they were at the start of the battle.

Yet, she couldn’t even cause a slash mark to appear on his leg or knee.

In the end, it was clear as day who the winner was—Delweather.

Hmph!

Cerine was not pleased with the results, but knew they were accurate.

"Just watch it, Farm Boy. Soon, I’ll stand on your head and dance over you from above!"

"Oh? You mean like a bonfire?" Delweather questioned playfully. "Will there be marshmallows too?’

"_"

If eyes could kill, Delweather would be dead now.

Cerine clenched her fists, furiously storming off, afraid that if she stared at Delweather one more second, she would kill him.

Sure enough, peasant boys like him were the most annoying.

’What a little Princess...’

Delweather chuckled in amusement, following behind Cerine into the darkened hallways they came from.

In the Bloodren 9 competition between the top dogs, Delweather emerged on top, as expected.

A while later, the group of Bloodren 10s took to the skies once more. But this time, their expressions were calm and thoughtful compared to before.

Winhest stood on one of the flying paper planes, his voice echoing across the skies.

"To pass the Phase 1 of the Bloodren examinations, you must win 1 battle, or at least get Draw with your opponent."

"What you witnessed is the 2nd match set between the two."

In a nutshell, they will have 2 opportunities to fight their opponents. You either Win or Tie with your opponent in one... or you’re OUT!
