Chapter 79: Envy

Arc 2, Chapter 79 — Envy

.

.

Just what was this place? Levon’s eyes gleamed thoughtfully.

The air was thick with the scent of turmoil, as figures emerged all around them, their movements swift and unnatural. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

These strangers flew beside, below, and some even over them with the use of their shards. It seemed everyone was going there.

On the ground, some were running over, while others jumped from tree to tree... everyone heading for the massive egg-like structure ahead.

"So, these are the new fresh bloods this year?" Someone’s voice echoed across the space from a not so far distance, the voice dripping with disdain. "Hmph, they don’t look strong to me..."

"Their Instructor... that short curly brown hair with blond highlights over there, I don’t know who he is... but that uniform..." Someone else muttered with venomous envy. The uniform rank was just too high.

"What the hell is the Order thinking? For fresh meat, they’re getting top treatment already... this really pisses me off!"

"Tsk. Cool your horses. I say, give them a few months, and they’ll all get sent to the other Departments... Or as we call them, the Dead zones."

"_"

The whispers of resentment soon filled the space as the newbies flew towards the oval structure.

A few recognized Winhest, while the majority didn’t. However, those with blue striped uniform were extremely high ranked personnel in their eyes who typically made it on the Board.

Are you kidding them?

This place had fives, tens and hundreds of thousands of people gathered here. Only top leaders overlooking legions are marked as people one has to remember or take note of their uniforms.

Several people thinned their lips and clenched their fists, evidently angered by the special treatment these fresh meat were getting.

Some were intrigued, while others just didn’t care.

In the Order’s history, this was perhaps the first time someone so high up was assigned to teach a newbie class.

These fresh meat might not realize just how lucky they were.

Such luck...

The eyes of those gathered around, flickered thoughtfully.

Many have been here for years but have never spotted a blue striped uniform person all their lives.

Do you think it’s easy to see those standing high up?

There were innumerable questions about the higher ups that many in this place buried deep in their hearts, talk less of seeing any of these higher ups to ask their questions to.

Yet, this group of probably worthless fresh meat, were all given such a formidable instructor during their first year here.

With all this staring them in the face, how can they not grow envious?

.

.

Pressing on amidst the envious remarks from others, the group finally reached the soaring structure

The massive opening around the dome-shaped building was spacious and leveled.

It was so spacious that they and several others had been walking for 13 entire minutes since they landed. This alone was a testimony to the vastness of the world Levon now found himself in.

Levon’s eyes scanned the sea of unfamiliar faces, taking note of their uniforms. Even before he stepped down from the paper plane, he could feel it—the oppressive weight of power emanating from all directions.

’They’re all strong... stronger than me.’

Levon felt his heart vibrate even more in its holding, the more he listened and assessed the strength of others surrounding him.

’Good.’

Such a place where age and appearance were meaningless, was just his kind of home.

From time to time, his eyes, as well as the eyes of those in their group, would fall on the single lone figure leading them forward—Winhest.

Despite this unreliable guy teaching for only a few minutes per class, they had to admit it felt quite good to have Winhest leading them in.

’Where are the doors?’

That was the first thought that came to Levon’s mind when walking through the oval structure’s enormous opening.

Once in, Winhest paused.

"Follow closely," Winhest advised, before leading them through the incredibly open entrance space.

Hiss~

Levon felt slight pain on his shoulders. Someone had unapologetically and intentionally bumped into him.

Hmph!

The youthful looking man sneered, showing his toughness while straddling in the opposition direction with his chest held high.

Levon knew that although this man looked no older than 19, he might actually be 20...50... 100... or even 500.

It was fascinating, wasn’t it?

In this place where people lived past a thousand years, it was hard to tell how old they truly were.

"Look, he flinched. How pathetic!"

"Hey, didn’t I say it? These fresh blood are nothing more than that."

A majority of newbies clenched their fists, feeling unwilling to be looked down on by the many people here.

As for Levon the victim, he was unphased by the taunts of the passersby who moved in all directions, left, right, front and back.

Whether it was Hendrix whose eyes were glued on the book in his hand, Floriana, who was sleepwalking, or the special few, they showed no reaction to whatever it was that went on.

In silence, they followed Winhest, making their way up several flights of steps, hallways and paths.

Then, they finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel; and from the distance they could hear the muffled sounds of conversation that grew louder and louder the closer they approached.

"What the–"

Shugo’s pupils dilated at an alarming rate, almost dropping the salty chip held tight between his lips.

Now it made sense!... They were in an arena!

My, my, my... who would have known that even in one of Winhest’s many bad moods, he could still do good?

Fufufufufu~

The corners of everyone’s lips raised high.

.

.

The dark, gloomy but majestic arena was buzzing with electrifying energy.

Dim lights cast shadows over the crowd, creating an atmosphere thick with anticipation.

Levon entered the arena, his eyes scanning the crowd. He felt a rush of adrenaline when spotting several formidable fighters, each exuding an aura of strength and confidence.

It’s not just the fighters that made his muscles twitch, but also those watching the match.

The air is thick with anticipation as spectators fill the stands, their voices a cacophony of scrutiny and tension.

But the second Winhest stepped in, several heads turned their way. One could not blame them for doing so.

Winhest’s presence was magnetic, drawing the attention of those around him.

One look and they could tell he wants someone they could mess with. Just his uniform alone made many suck in air.

"In the end, it’s all about power." Leo’s lips quivered in ecstasy. "This place... it really makes living worth it."

"So many strong people gathered in one spot... I think I’m addicted." Shugo added, whipping the crumbs from his lips.

"Buddy, can you feel it?"

Their energy... he can feel their energy... the energy only the strong exude.

"Finish him!" Someone next to them bellowed as the match below was coming to an end. Their muscles ripple under the harsh lights, showcasing their physical prowess. And with their last final blows, the duo below ended the match.

Done.

There was no cheerful eruption from the crowd when both fighters left, giving way to another match that made the arena’s feel electric.

Winhest smile never faded while walking towards the best viewing location.

"Leave."

He spoke softly, yet his unquestionable authority made those seated, not dare to fight back.

—Soon, the gang had seats.

"Well, you’re all in luck." Winhest spoke plainly. "Today, you’ll get to watch the 2 titans amongst the Bloodren 9s."

Ingest spoke with no emotions, but his words left merry explosions in the hearts of these Bloodren 10s.

"So... So... instructor, isn’t this..."

"Yup." Winhest answered nonchalantly. "Today, you’ll get a peek into what their Phase 1 competition will look like."

WHAT?

Everyone sat frozen and dumbfounded.

There was actually a Phase 1 competition going on while they were in class earlier?

This... This... This...

Levon’s eyes glistened intriguingly when listening to the murmurs and exclamations from the crowd.

"Finally, the match we’ve been waiting for... Delweather vs Cerine..."

"I hear both of them are the top Bloodren 9s."

"Tsk. Having them paired up makes for a good show. I remember their matches, when they were still Bloodren 10s. That Cerine is a beast."

"Delweather isn’t bad either..."

Levon felt warmth strong deep within him, the adrenaline coursing through his veins now boiling for action.

Cerine... Delweather...

’So those are the names of the top 2 Bloodren 9s?’

"Buddy, it seems it wasn’t long ago that they were like us... Bloodren 10s." Shugo added, staring at the dark shadowy opening at the far corner of the battlefield.

Be it Leo, Hendrix, or every other Bloodren 10, they all felt palpitating heartbeats when staring at the shadowy space below.

—And without knowing it, their bodies already leaned forward while listening to the host.

One would think a host would be welcoming, but this one was quite rude and uncaring, still laying on the ground while muttering his remarks.

Fufufufu~

Everyone smirked.

In the end, isn’t it to be expected from an arena host living in a place like this?
