Chapter 76: Phase One (1)

Arc 2, Chapter 76 — Phase One (1)

.

The Scarlet Order was no place for the weak.

Hulga understood this better as the days went by. It was a wild world here, and she felt it.

The Cafeteria had hours of operations for Breakfast, Lunch and Supper. And if the end time goes and you’re still in line, then too bad.

Hulga’s fury was bottled, as her bruised, discolored hands trembled with every move she took.

Soon she was back to her feet in a limping manner, with other visible purplish discolorations on her body.

The rules were simple: Eat whenever you can, fight whenever you must, but DO NOT KILL Anyone.

Indeed, she should be happy no one thought of kicking her in the face. But how could she?

What infuriated her most was that many smug bastards—with their polished boots and unscathed uniforms—would cut the line, and no one would say a thing.

But if it was she, Hulga, were to breathe so much out of tune, they would eat her raw with punches and kicks, coming from all directions.

Hulga limped bitterly as she went to the back of the line. ƒreewebɳovel.com

One must understand that no matter how seriously injured one gets, don’t think the medical room could be accessed so easily. In other words: Heal your own injuries, your damn selves!

Only half-Bloodren 10s and above can access the medical center several times a year depending on their ranks.

Who were half-Bloodren 10s? Those who passed, but did not stay back to have battles with vampires.

Hulga and many undergrounders didn’t know much about half-Bloodren 10s and those far above.

All Hulga knew was that her group of arrivees, were called The 273’s.

They were far below the surface, like rodents, and didn’t even know what the surface lands looked like.

Unlike the half-Bloodren tens and those above, the only time anyone will get taken to the medical center is if they’re on the cusp of death.

’What did I do to deserve this? Isn’t it only normal to push others to death in order to save yourself? How can men be so petty? Aren’t men supposed to forgive easily?’

After standing at the back of the line, Hulga clenched her fists. It was such an insanely long line that spiraled.

Shuffling forward in line, her eyes burned with quiet defiance, staring at the fading silhouette above.

’It’s all your FAULT!’

.

.

There were eyes of fury coming from below, but Levon seemed oblivious to it all.

The Cafeteria buzzed with chattering trays, haughty conversations, laughter and occasional outbursts of fury.

Levon tilted his head in scrutiny. With he and Artilla’s food secured, it was time to find a place to eat.

"Hey, guys... Over here!"

Leo’s voice cut through the voice of noise. He and Rayna were waving.

Levon smiled in amusement, as he and Artilla soon joining the duo.

These guys...

Artilla raised a brow at the mountain of dishes gathered in one corner. "You guys go for seconds?"

"Of course!" Leo answered righteously. "Arty, don’t you and the boss know that food is life?"

"Pfft, " Rayna laughed heartily. "Look who you’re asking? Who in here is the most foodie if not Arty?"

Everyone subconsciously glanced at Artilla’s trays, finding it hilarious.

Where does the food she eats goes? They felt if she entered an eating competition with anyone in this place, she might actually come out first.

Her appetite was contradictory to her elegant way of eating. Just how does she devour everything so fast?

Rayna swore she only lowered her head to take a bite of her toasted bread, and Artilla had also swallowed an entire chicken, leaving just the bones behind, still standing in place like a prehistoric structure.

—Magic trick?

No matter how many times they saw it, they all felt Artilla’s stomach definitely held a portal to another world. The girl alone took 3 trays of meals, yet she had already finished 2.

Sigh...

Rayna placed a heavy hand on Artilla’s shoulder. "Luckily, you’re in an organization that can feed you without fear of getting bankrupt." Or else won’t some other places throw her out at this rate?

They’ve witnessed with their own eyes how Artilla’s appetite has grown since shard training. Well, even before Shard training, she was the biggest eater they knew. And now, after Shard training... They’ve seen her eat between 10 to 23 trays of food, each tray carrying 4~5 massive deep bowls of food.

Never think the tray’s length and width was the typical standard size. The trays were one meter long with ample space for the massive dishes. But even with that, Artilla still ate so many dishes.

If this were a restaurant, the bill would be enough to make any man or woman touch their pockets pitifully.

"Eat, none of us will ever despise you."

Levon shook his head in amusement, rubbing her head teasingly. How can she be so cute?

Biting into his meal, Levon felt his body praising him for his diligence.

As said before, a lot has changed within their bodies... not just Artilla’s.

After Shard awakening, everyone, including himself, had increased appetites to keep up with the supernatural changes.

Well, the meal was awesome. They ate and piled up dishes, before going in for seconds and thirds. With their shards helping them out, they carried several trays of food back to their table.

—And only after eating a bit to their satisfaction, did they finally go down to BUSINESS.

.

.

"Boss, Group Submissions are tomorrow." Rayna began, pausing momentarily to chew. "We now have a complete team, but this isn’t what bothers me."

"Yeah," Leo nodded subtly.

Levon knew where the duo were driving at. They weren’t trying to make him feel uncomfortable, but simply wanted to know his current state.

It was a well-known fact that the submission itself... would mark the start of the first Phase in Bloodren 10—Phase ONE.

Despite Leo and Rayna’s relaxed tone, there was a hint of worry Levon detected.

"Don’t worry," he assured firmly. "I’ll be ready by then."

Phase 1...

Levon didn’t show it, but his mind was now a momentary cluster of subtle chaos.

’After submissions are given, it is likely Winhest will begin testing form stability.’ He concluded.

Without overly stating the obvious, can his 6 minutes and a few seconds hold out against the bare minimum requirement for a hold out time of 15 minutes?

A grim light flickered through his pupils.

Everyone in his group can hold off for far more than that except for him. As leader, how can he fall so far behind?

Zzzzzzzzzz!~

Levon’s thoughts were disrupted.

’There it is again... but something’s wrong!’

That slumbering noise was now getting louder than it usually did by several decibels.

What’s going on?

"Can you hear it?"

"Hear what?" The trio looked at each other before shaking their heads at Levon.

"Boss, what are you talking about?"

"I don’t hear anything."

"Brother Levy, why do you always ask if we can hear something?"

This wasn’t the first time he asked. They looked left, right, front, back and in all directions to no avail.

"Never mind," Levon replied subtly. "I think I’m just tired from excessive training."

"Well then Boss, you’ve got to relax sometimes, or pull overdo it."

"Yeah..."

Everyone didn’t think much of it, continuing their meal. But Levon’s eyes focused on a far, faraway place, that was visible from here.

It was one of the many Forbidden zones in this hellish place.

’There’s no doubt about it. It’s coming from there.’ Levon concluded.

What he now feared was not so much as where the noise was coming from, but why it suddenly grew louder.

He had a premonition—a hunch that if he didn’t head into the Forbidden lands soon, he might regret it for the rest of his life.

’I’ll have to go alone,’ Levon planned.

After coming here, he understood that the Scarlet Order had 3 primary rules: No betraying the order, no killing fellow non-infected/corrupted comrades, and no disregard for the rules.

What order these rules were ranked by was hard to say.

But here was one thing Levon was sure of. The rule one said no disregard of the rules. This only translated to one thing: DO NOT GET CAUGHT.

’So long as I don’t get caught... so long as I’m still <detected> to be asleep at night... so long as no one catches me venturing into that forbidden land, then I would still be seen as someone who respected and obeyed the rules.’

Levon lowered his thick long lashes, thoughtfully taking a sip of tea.

’It seems it’s time to finally begin my nightly explorations.’

Now comes the tricky part.

’I know how to maneuver my way out of the building... But what about the vast estate and gardens enclosed within the walls?’

The rich flavor of the tea was alive on Levon’s tongue, while the slumbering noises in his ears kept his brain awake.

No matter the challenge, one thing was clear—He, Levon Belmont, must surely find a way!
