Arc 2, Chapter 60 — Betrayals & Friendships

.

.

Look left, look right.

Look up, look down.

Look all around you when smashing fists and jumping.

Wow!

The corridors were flooded with action.

Levon jumped on the back of a Ghoul, stabbing its skull before moving on.

"Thanks!"

The voice belonged to a punk-haired teen in the hallway.

Of course, he didn’t have time to keep looking Levon’s way, as more and more ghouls emerged.

"Die, you bloody Wankers!"

Leo shot his card while twisting in the air like a torpedo.

As for Shugo, he practically jumped off the balcony overlooking the grand floors below, but kept one hand on the railings, using it to swing and propel himself forward.

"Damn, that was close. I could have been Ghoul food just now."

Phew~

He landed on the pathway he was on earlier, landing right beside Levon and Leo.

Looking at the stairway leading to the 3rd floor, the trio tilted their necks and knuckles, releasing crackling noises.

Well, it’s best they loosen a few bones. Because right before them, was another swarm of ghouls blocking their way.

’Arty, hold on...’

They’re COMING!

Boom!

With no time to waste, the boys rushed forth, avoiding and kicking all vampires down to the floors below.

Their goal was to get to Artilla’s room and not fight out here for heaven knows how long.

—And during this time, Artilla wasn’t having it easy either.

She and another girl now stood back to back, facing off against 3 vampires... except these vampires weren’t the Level 1s Levon’s group faced.

They were LEVEL 2s.

Weary and a little depleted, the duo stood enclosed within the walls of darkness now swooping in.

But how exactly did she get here?

Huh.

Artilla was never one to regret her decisions.

To understand her predicament, one must go back a few moments into the past.

The dormitory was safe and NOT under attack.

.

.

It was getting late.

As usual, the 2 girls who knew each other, talked a bit before going to bed.

Apart from Artilla, there was another line girl in the room who kept to herself.

Yet, Artilla couldn’t bring herself to like this girl.

There was something about the girl that resembled a green snake in a green grassland.

Intuition told that should she befriend such a person, she might end up regretting it for the rest of her life.

So she maintained her quietness within the dormitory, only speaking in a neutral tone when asked a question.

Then Lights out commenced as usual.

Everyone hit the hay, and found themselves in Lala land in no time..

But little did they know that when next they wake, they would come face to face with 6 ghouls, 3 Level 1s and 3 Level 2s.

Artilla thought they would all work together to fend the invaders in her room.

However, she overestimated the human heart.

This...

Artilla couldn’t believe it.

These 2 girls seemed very chummy with each other.

Yet, in the hour of need, one of them pushed the other towards a ghoul, using her as bait before fleeing the room.

Alright. Now there were 3 in the room, instead of 4.

Everything happened in slow motion.

That girl abandoned her ’best friend’ like she was abandoning poop on the side of the road.

Artilla manifested her whip, latching it around the girl and reeling her back.

Gnash!

The ghoul she escaped from, bit into the air, almost breaking its fangs.

So close... it was just inches away from sinking its teeth into the girls neck.

Ghoul could sink its teeth into her neck.

Ah!—

Artilla had saved the abandoned friend.

As for the other girl, the one Artilla didn’t like, she too had pushed her forward before darting out of the room too.

From 3 to 2.

Now, there were just 2 of them fighting back to back, with every fiber in their being.

The black ponytailed girl felt her body shaken from the betrayal.

Why?

She laughed bitterly.

Right from the start, she looked down at Artilla who was getting chummy with Levon, a proclaimed weakling.

But who knew that Artilla, whom she felt might be stuck up and snobbish, would be the only one to save her and stay back?

Her best friend’s betrayal hurts so much because she had known her friend since they were toddlers.

Even in the world of the STRONG, everyone needed reliable companions, allies, and comrades.

Perhaps the signs of betrayal have always been there...

Don’t forget they’ve known each other since they were toddlers.

Maybe she overlooked them because she was too familiar with this friend of hers.

Take the relationships between a parent and a child.

Sometimes, parents and even children, overlook the bad traits of their loved ones.

Only when you’re standing on the other side, do you see how fucking messed up the whole relationship was.

That’s it.

She wasn’t the sort to mourn a loss for long.

Besides, she had other matters to take care of.

.

.

BOOM!

With Artilla being a dual shard user, she eliminated 2 using her fan and her whip.

The rescued girl eliminated one using her shard—a manifestation of what looked like an anchor, with a chain attached to its end.

Hoooh-Hoooh-Hoooh~

They were breathing heavily.

However, they knew they couldn’t stop now, especially with the lights off and the room plunged into complete darkness.

Luckily, the red emergency lights came on, giving them better visibility... Though the situation didn’t change much.

They were still outnumbered 3 to 2.

Artilla’s fan sliced through the air, as she counterattacked a few claw attacks from the creature.

She felt she would be able to hold on longer, that was until she spotted a third hand growing from one of the creature’s bellies.

’NOT GOOD!’

Hope can a hand grow from a belly? Winhest didn’t mention this!

Artilla’s heart fell when watching the ebony grotesque fingers strike fast.

That’s it. There was no way she could defend herself. This is the end, isn’t it?

Artilla prepared for the worst.

However... the excruciating pain she thought she would feel, didn’t come.

Graaaaaahhhhh~

It was not her voice that echoed across the walls.

Artilla looked at the Katana poking out from the creature’s belly and smiled.

They’re here!

Her smile was like a blooming flower in springtime.

She always knew they would come, but didn’t know if they would arrive too late or not.

~BAM! BOOM! PAH!

All 3 boys joined the action after forcing their way in and closing the door.

The other girl felt heavy in her heart after seeing Levon, Shugo and Leo arrive. No doubt, they came for Artilla.

True Friends...
